Evening all,

It's our tenth wedding anniversary shortly before our trip, so we're making this our anniversary holiday :goodvibes

We've planned a couple of things to do to celebrate, including a trip to DC on the first weekend we're there, a horseback trek through the wilderness etc, and i'm planning on something a little extra.

DW has always wanted to see a 'proper' beach and ocean, and while we went to clearwater in late november last time we were in florida, it wasn't quite the perfection we were after.

So, i'm planning on the second weekend to overnight at the Tortuga Beach Resort on Anna Maria Island, and as it's such a narrow slither of land, we'll be able to sit on the beach and watch the sunset, then watch the sunrise on the other side of the island in the morning.

Recommendations on where to eat dinner and breakfast would be great, along with any local must-see / must-do things while we're there if anyone's been!

:goodvibes

You mean Southend-on-Sea doesn't do it for her?! ;):rotfl2:

LOL nope - it's our closest "coast" being 15 minutes from both of our workplaces, and while it's gotten a lot more attractive in the last couple of years, it's still a sewage-fed gravel-beached waste dump!

Up here in Aberdeen, close by we have some amazing beaches - trouble is, it's so cold or windy most of the time you can never enjoy them!

When we went to Busch Gardens last visit, we also stopped off at St Pete's beach, because just like you we thought it would be great to see a proper tropical beach. Wasn't really that impressed to be honest, like you with Clearwater I suspect.

Have you looked up the location of Tortuga Beach Resort on Anna Maria Island on Google Streetview - I just did, and again, it didn't really shout out to me 'this is a wonderful, idyllic tropical beach location' either.

No, but just up the road is the top of Anna Maria Island, and that's lovellllly :D

For the ultimate i'd have to go to the Maldives or Antigua, but there's no disney parks near them, so that's not happening!
