Animation building closing?

I don't get these boards. Everyone complains that they don't make big changes to the park but when they close something that really only has some meet and greets and the art class everyone is upset. They need to close things to make change. So maybe huge change is coming and they need the space.

You can't make everyone happy. For me I would rather see large areas close with the hopes of new stuff being a frequent traveler.

I'm glad things on that side of the park are slowly closing freeing up plots of consistent space for expansion.

If they close the car show they now have a very large area for a Pixar expansion.

I think if they close the area for the Osborne light show then we will see a Star Wars section. I can't see them putting Star Wars areas over by Pixar when star tours is in another area.

Maybe the little mermaid is going too if they get get rid of the Walt attraction. I do like the little mermaid show.

I think the closures would go over better if there were official annoucements from Disney about what was replacing them, or if (for ex) the animation class were staying and moving somewhere else in the expansion plans. Closing so much with only rumors as to what's going to come in is going to lead to these kinds of reactions, imo, because we are only finding out what we are losing and don't have official word on what's coming to get excited about.

Thrill rides are not for everybody, true (again, to each their own). That said, we can agree that the Animation Building was the thing that our whole DF enjoyed doing. From the drawing class to the character meets to the gallery and the feature film behind the scenes exhibits (which were always amazing), this was the place where we just lost ourselves in everything there.

YES! And so few people took advantage of that! If nothing else, people should have been hanging out there for the AC! LOL! I'm so sad to see the gallery go...I really hope that they find someway to keep those treasures on display somewhere in Disney World.

Sounds like they're closing everything that's not ToT, R&RC, Star Wars Toy Story Mania now! I'm bummed because this was a great place to meet characters.

We are going down in Dec and my son (and myself) were really excited to do the drawing class. Really bummed that it's closing.

Is there anywhere else in any of the parks where you can do something like this?

I for one am happy to see this move. If you look google maps and see the size of the animation building and for the past decade how little of it has been used it's past time for a change. Remember, originally that area held Walt Disney Feature Animation Florida and was used to completely animate Mulan, Lilo and Stich, Brother Bear and played a part in animating several other features and shorts. When Feature Animation moved out of Florida, most of the building pretty sad. "Let's look at empty desk where animators used to work".

Hopefully the find a place for new bigger home for the animation classes. But this park has been neglected for far too long. Unfortunately they appear to be preparing to play catch up in one fell swoop with over 1/2 the park closed and under construction all at once.

Contrary to what a lot of other folks have stated over the last few years we've always thought HS was a half day park and that Animal Kingdom deserved more time. It seems that trend may be getting it's due now.

As others have said, the closing would be better received if we knew what was going to take the place of the things that have closed and if we had an idea of when those changes would be put into place.

I agree with you that Little Mermaid is likely as good as gone if they also close One Man's Dream. I wonder if they would bring Finding Nemo over. It looks like that might be part of the Pixar expansion so that show would make sense there.

Personally, I think that leaving Magic of Disney Animation as is as well as expanding out to create more Disney attractions would be the way to go for this area. You know how Frontierland flows very well into Liberty Square? I could see "Disney Studios" (with Disney Junior Live on Stage, Little Mermaid, Animation Academy, and some rides that were once in Disneyland or Magic Kingdom that have gone away) flowing very well into "Pixar Studios" (that would also expand into the old Backlot Tour and Streets of America areas.

It's not the permanent closure that has me upset, but I do want to see change to that park and am hoping for big things, it is just that it is closing so soon to our trip, 8 days now, and we would have planned differently if we knew when we were scheduling FP+. It would be nice if they can give at least 60 days notice because of this.

I am definitely for change and updates. ;0)

This is the impression I got too, so also looking for clarification.

I will say that the animation classes have gotten increasingly popular over the last several years. So if Disney doesn't re-locate the animation classes (if its closed), then it would make me really scratch my head.

My thoughts exactly! That's why I sent the email request to guest communications. I think it's something that they may have planned already or are at least considering it. So, maybe with enough guest feedback.... it may actually happen. (the relocation of the drawing class)

i like the idea of nemo coming over. would never happen cause then that building would sit empty and be a waste of space, but who knows. they spent tens of thousands prob on minnie's dressing room and that's prop getting trashed. lol

They could move the Nemo musical to an expanded Pixar Place at DHS and put something else in the theatre space at AK. (Wasn't that the site of "Tarzan Rocks" before Nemo?)
