Animation building closing?

So what part is considered the Animation Gallery? That part is said to remain open until late Aug.

It's the store that sells the animation cels and artwork. It sits facing the courtyard.

Wow! I guess that will be an hour or two less on our EMH morning. I'm so glad we decided not to do a full day there. My BIL and sister will be very disappointed. One Man's Dream and the Animation Academy were their favorite attractions at DHS and we were looking forward to doing both in December.

That's the last straw. No reason to visit HS on this trip. Call me when either Star Wars or Cars Land takes over. Sheesh.
I am not sure if HS isn't worth visiting at all however, I would argue that that it is now a 1/2 day park for me...especially if you work your FP+ right.

Do we have confirmation somewhere that Baymax and Hiro are leaving or are we just assuming. The article I read did not mention their fate.

Beginning July 13th, Mickey and Minnie can be found in new meet and greet locations. Hiro and Baymax will not be found anywhere - their meet ends on July 12th.

I read that here but nowhere else. What is the source for that?

There hasn't been anything official from WDW on any of this yet, other than Animation closing, but info is coming from reliable sources and the information sounds the same even from multiple folks, which lends to its credibility.

Sad to see this go. Not for the movie, so much, but it was a great place to get pictures with some of the characters and it didn't have that long of a line and you were out of the hot sun.

TC :cool1:

This is from Kenny the Pirate's site http://www.kennythepirate.com/2015/...ion-to-close-and-meet-and-greets-to-relocate/
He seems to think that Baymax may continue to meet, but it hasn't been announced yet.

The official closing date is said to be July 12. Some are saying that Walt Disney One Man’s Dream will be closing soon as well.

  • Mickey Mouse will temporarily move to the open air area across from Studio Catering where Darth Vader and Darth Maul have met during Star Wars Weekends. It’s being reported that he’ll have a more permanent meet in front of Disney Junior – Live on Stage, but that is unconfirmed.
  • Minnie Mouse will move back to the area in front of the Great Movie Ride and Center Stage where the other Disney animated characters like Donald and Daisy, Chip n Dale and Goofy and Pluto meet. She met there for many years before moving to the Animation building.
  • The Animation Gallery store will remain open until late August before closing as well.
  • The future of Hiro and Baymax is uncertain, but a rumor I heard said that Baymax would continue to meet in some yet unannounced location.
  • I would fully expect Lights, Motors, Action to close at an undetermined time in the future as well.
It’s expected that all this will become part of a BIG park expansion that could feature an expansion of the popular Pixar and Star Wars franchises. Hollywood Studios will also undergo another renaming after changing its name from Disney MGM Studios in 2008.

This really grinds my gears, as we may it by just one day. We are scheduled to be at HS on July 13. With FP+, it is simply not feasible to try and switch days around and hope we get fast passes swapped out without missing something. So now, we are going to try and park hop from AK to HS on the 12th and hope beyond hope that we get to the Baymax M&G in time and maybe get one more animation class in before it closes.

I enjoy Animation Academy and will be sad to see it go. The rumor about One Man's Drem closing has me concerned. I LOVE OMD! I guess there is no point in getting too worked up until it is announced, though. What are they doing with the park, though? It needs more than Star Wars and Pixar. Add - don't replace.

So incredibly bummed about this. We usually do the Animation Academy several times a day. I have framed artwork by the whole family from each trip since DDs were 8 years old. If it's not back open by December I may have to look into AoA class times. We will have a free morning/early afternoon before MVMCP so maybe that's a resort trip.

Us too. We arrive on the 13th. I have 2 half days scheduled at DHS, but now I am considering dropping that to 1, and adding a half day to AK. With FPs and ADRs all set this is not any easy thing to do only 2 weeks out.

Does anyone know if they have started construction in the areas that they have closed, or are they just sitting there empty? Just curious because I haven't heard of any construction reports, but I know that doesn't mean it's not happening.

It's reported that Iger and the Board of Directors are meeting at BWI today. The agenda is reported to focus on DHS expansion so more should be announced soon.

Reliable sources are still reporting Hiro and Baymax meets end on June 12.
