Animation building closing?

Do you know when they are held? Might consider popping over from POP.

It says that classes are held Thursday to Monday, at 11:00am, 2:00pm and 5:00pm.

I'm wondering if you have to have a resort reservation AT the AOA to participate in the classes? We are staying at the ASMu but were already planning to check out the AOA resort. It would be great if we could do both at once!

I'm surprised Lights, Motors, Action is still open at this point. It is pretty obvious they are closing things down for the "big remodel" .. and that attraction is back in the middle of nowhere relatively.

Shocked at how little there will be to do at DHS. I convinced my in-laws to go there for the last day of our trip .. and with two little girls (2 & 4) I'm afraid they may not enjoy the day since there is basically one ride and several shows that they will enjoy there. If it wasn't for the Disney Junior meal we probably would skip it.

As hiromyhero mentioned CM's have been informed. They have already started closing the building during EMH and suddenly I might add. Last week they were informed they would be closed during EMH right before it was to begin. Guests had been told to come back during EMH for the drawing class and upon returning were told they had decide to close the building during EMH. The whole EMH with the areas closed for fireworks and the Animation building closed looked like a disorganized mess.

HS management should do better they closed the GMR 20 minutes before the times guide early closure that was listed denying people with FP that were on time entry to the ride. If they at least cannot communicate and be organized they should close the whole park.

The July 12th closure is confirmed. Minnie and Mickey will move their meets outdoors; Hiro and Baymax will end their stay on July 12th.

The Animation Building is being refurbished and completion dates have not been announced.

Will they be relocating the animator drawing class during the refurbishment to somewhere else within HS?

No one has mentioned that from what I have seen. The whole focus of the Building's refurbishment is to expand the area for a larger Animation Academy.

Is it coming back? I'm reading stuff that it's just closing no mention of returning.

It's a refurbishment. Animation Academy returns. It's the characters that won't return - locations will be built for them but for now it looks like they move to temporary locations while their new sets are constructed.

I dont think its a refurb. THis is what I saw:

Disney confirmed Monday that “Work is underway on a new experience, and we look forward to sharing more information in the future,” a Disney World spokeswoman said.

I am really bummed. I enjoyed the Animation academy

That's the last straw. No reason to visit HS on this trip. Call me when either Star Wars or Cars Land takes over. Sheesh.

Oh no!!! The animation class is our "must do" this year. Not sure about my 2 days DHS now. I was planning a day of Animation/Fantasmic and another day with the Frozen Premium Pkg. I will check if I can move the package to the same day and go to MK instead.

This was us too. My 6yo DD often watches the animation classes on Disney Parks YouTube channel (HIGHLY recommend this channel!!) and this trip we were going to attend 1 or 2 on our second DHS day. Now I'm guessing we'll only be going to DHS for one day. Looks like we might be decreasing our passes by one day and spending that day at Downtown Disney/Disney Springs.

They do also offer the classes at AoA.
Thank you! We'll look into this for sure!!

I just moved my Frozen package. Just can't see my family spending 2 full days in DHS--it used to my a 1/2 day park for us before last year's Frozen Summer Fun. Without the Trading Post, Backlot and now Animation Building--definitely not 2 days worthy. Now, I'm no sure to go back to my original plan as 2 days in EPCOT or do a 3 days at MK. I switched my FP+ to MK now, hope Soaring will be available if I decided on EPCOT.

I agree and understand your dilemma. For us FP+ is not involved yet as I can't book them for a couple of weeks yet. We have 2 days planned at Epcot but found out last week that 'Living with the Land' is closed for the majority of our trip. Not sure how we'll fit it in this trip. It's just one of those old favourites that is tradition to go on.

I hope they officially announce what's going to be happening at DHS soon as it's getting more and more difficult to justify the cost of a day there, especially with younger children who cannot enjoy many of the rides intended for older children and adults. I'm hoping they announce Cars Land but don't want to get my hopes up.

For us, it is the "Piggy Bank Adventure". My girls loved it. We had to do it 2 or 3 times on our EPCOT days. With that gone, it was easy to change the day to DHS to make sure we get to the animation classes, all the shows, Fastasmic package plus the Frozen Package. Now, it's down to one day--we probably will not see the car show and not able to use the Fantasmic package tickets. I was sure Disney would close the stunt shows first. I want talk to my daughters and see if we can skip the Frozen package. They had a good time last year and want to do it again. I would whether go for the Fantasmic package, see the firework from the entry and save myself $285.

Very much love Animation Academy. Just discovered it two years ago, and I love the drawings I've done there. I am sad to see that it will be closed this summer when we are there. As others have said, that doesn't really leave a whole lot to do at DHS.
