hello am planning to go to animal kingdom, we never been, we are in our 50's, please give, advice, opions, what you think eighter negative or positive. is the dino ride really fast?is this an all day park, is it relaxing. thankx

This park is beginning to grow on me. I didn't really like it the first couple of times. It is very beautiful, and now I feel bad for putting it down to friends and family who have gone to the World over the last few years.

AK has never been an all-day park for me. Usually I am with my mom who is 56, and her opinion is about like mine. The Festival of the Lion King is a must-see. Kilimanjaro Safaris, too. It's Tough to Be a Bug is very good. I haven't done Kali River Rapids because I don't like to get wet, but it's probably fun if you don't mind getting wet. Tarzan Rocks is enjoyable - I'd go just to see the skaters. Dinosaur is not exactly fast, but it is dark and kind of rough. We really like it, though. IMO, skip The Dino Rama area. The rides aren't very fun for adults and it's one of the least attractive places in all of WDW. Flights of Wonder (a bird show) is worth doing once. There are some trails you can take that have lots of animals (gorillas, tigers, bats, etc.) that you probably won't see on the safari. I'm sure I've left out something major, but I can't think of anything else.

Be sure to visit the Animal Kingdom Lodge. It is an attraction in itself. Eating at Boma is worth every penny.

One word of caution: when it's hot down there, this park is the hottest and steamiest. I hope you are going at a not-so-hot time of year. Otherwise, get there as early as possible the day you go and drink lots of water.

I would concur exactly with skporter on every aspect. It's a peaceful park, wonderful ambiance, wonderful sights & sounds.

AK is a wonderful park, the shows are great and are
no one priority.
If, you do, and see eveything, you can't do it all in one
day.
The dino ride is a ball, and no negative's with AK.

AGAIN DON'T MISS THE SHOWS.

Guess what? we are in our 50's too, and we
think AK is a BLAST.. :bounce:

If you like old fashioned roller coasters, or mouse - trap type rides at fairs, you really must do Primevil Whirl and it is in the Dino land area. This is our favorite part of the park, but I am sure we are in the minority. It is made to look very "kitschy" like an old fair or road side stop from the 50's and 60's.

Now, about Dinosaur - I hate this ride. I have ridden several times and always wish I hadn't. It doesn't go "fast" but it is VERY rough. I had a huge bruise on the back of my leg from it the first time I rode because I got thrown around so much (And I'm a big girl!) In subsequent rides, no bruises, but it really is rough and loud!! and there are strobe lights and bursts of air - it is not for the faint hearted.

I love every other ride at WDW from the new Mission: Space to Tower of Terror, but I will not ride Dinosaur again.

DO NOT MISS THE SHOWS. Festival of the Lion King is worth the admission itself. Flights of Wonder if fantastic and Tough to be a Bug is GREAT! (especially for adults)

OH AND BY THE WAY . . .WELCOME TO THE DIS!!!! :)

Angie

Also note that this park closes a lot earlier than all other parks, so it would be a good night to do a nice dinner elsewhere, such as the AK Lodge as skporter suggests.
