Animal Kingdom Lodge?

We are coming down in October and are staying at AKL with a savannah view - is there any section that we should request which may be better for viewing the animals????????

I second Erin!

I requested an Arusha Savannah room on Zebra Trail because of all the wonderful tips I got here on the boards. It was wonderful! We really wanted to see the Zebra, and this is the only Savannah with them. I had also requested the 2nd floor because this is the perfect height to view the animals(another tip from the boards.) I was worried that if we were on the higher floors, we would be looking down on top of the animals heads and backs.

Yep... I agree with the others. We were on 3rd (or 4th) floor, Zebra Trail overlooking Arusha Rock savannah and it was fantastic. I have heard that animals are everywhere so I am sure the other savannahs are great too!!!!

That is where we stayed in 1/03...I'd like to try something new but we had such a fantastic view I'd hate to leave it up to chance...but to let you know both Zudu and Zebra trails have the same view on the Arusha Savannah. Zebra trail is closer to the pools and resturants though.

Does anyone know if the AKL has bunk bed rooms in the regular rooms? I saw they have them in the bunk beds, but I only need a regular room. Thanks for any help!!

We stayed on Kudu Trail, Arusha Savannah, 2nd floor room. I've misplaced our room numbers - but we were almost all the way to the end...a bit of a walk, but the really nice thing was we were near some shady trees that the animals loved - and near a path that they used to go on and off the Savannah. That was really amazing to watch - like a National Geographic special

We were also near a fire escape that faced the other Savannah - next to a "people pen" - and there was a feeding box that the giraffes LOVED practically on top of that fire escape. We took some wonderful close up pics of the giraffes from there.

You can get a room with bunk beds or 2 regular beds. If you do not want the bunks, just request no bunks when you make your reservartion. We got bunks without a request for them, which was really a nice surprise for my kids. I would definiltley request no bunks if this is your preference.

I loved the Arusha savannah. We stayed on the Kudu trail on the 3rd floor and the Zebra Trail on the 5th floor. We had a great view from both vantage points. I think I liked the Arusha savannah because of being able to see the gorgeous rock formation in the center. Being able to see so much of the rest of the resort "horseshoed" around us was also a plus for this view. Some of my favorite pictures are from this savannah at sunrise. Simply breathtaking.

If you request a lower floor to be close to the animals, don't fret if you end up on a higher floor. I really didn't notice the difference between the 3rd and 5th floor view.
