I posted these on the resort boards and didnt get much help, so I thought I would try here!

In your opinion what is the best area to stay in, we would like to be close to the bus stop, the restaurants and stilll see lots of animals (I"m not asking for much, right :flower: ) With your experiences what have been good areas?

Also while looking at the WDW web site it says a deluxe bunk bed savannah view room sleeps 5, can you tell me how with a queen bed and bunks? Is there something they are not mentioning.

Thanks all
Laura

I'll try to answer some -

We stayed there this past Feb (2005), and we really enjoyed the resort, with one exception - the long bus ride to MK.

We had the 2 queen beds, so can't anwer the 5 people question.

The bus stop is at the end of a ramp that goes down from the main lobby and gift shop area. It's hard to describe, but the shape of the lodge creates multiple savannahs (sp?). The one we stayed in was terrible, it was on the kudu trail, but not facing the main savannah - the only animals we saw were some birds, and 1 giraffe on 1 day. It was not the main savannah view.

Using this map,

Try to get rooms with a view of the middle savannah.

Looking at that map, the bus stop is in the very lower right, kind of where the Giraffe picture is.

Definitely one of my favorite resorts, with the one drawback of a long bus ride to MK.

We were at AKL last June and loved it!!!!

Our room (#2423) was just steps away from the lobby. We were very close to the restaurants, store, and pool area. All we had to do was cross the lobby and out the front to the bus stop.

Since we were so close to the lobby, we had a very good view of Arusha Rock. The good thing about this was that not only could we animal watch, we could people watch too!!!!

I've heard lots of people say that the 2nd floor is too low, but we found it to be just right. We were close enough to have a really good view of the animals.

We walked all around the resort and I don't think anything was very far away. We found it very easy to get around.

We were just there 12/17 thru 12/26 and I have to agree with dixipixi. Our room was right above theirs in 5425 and it was a great location. Close to the lobby but not too close. and a great view of Arusha Rock and the animal feeding areas. Centrally located between two banks of elevators.

As for sleeping five, I understand that the AKL has rooms which have both a bunk bed and a day bed. We requested one but did not get it, so they provided a rollaway bed and the room did not seem crowded at all.

The rooms that sleep five have a Queen, a set of bunk beds, and a daybed. Our 13 year old slept there and was fine, it's about the size of a twin bed.

Remember That The AKL Bus Does Not Share With Any Other Resort. Probably Only 15 Minutes From AKL To MK Not Counting Wait Time For Bus. Much Easier Thank Driving From AKL To MK Parking Lot, Getting Tram To TTC And Then Either Monorail Or Ferry To MK.
