Animal Kingdom Lodge Partial closer till Sept. 1

I just spoke to one of the CMs specifically handling AKL inquiries. The Official word is that AKL will NOT close completely at any point. From July 1- Aug 14-all Savannah view rooms will be closed and they will done calling people with reservations in those rooms during that time period this week or early next. It will be about 2 weeks before mid-late August people get called. From Aug 14- Sept 1st- possibly a different set(s) of room types will be closed but she would not confirm which ones that will be yet (they may not even know for sure yet). She assured me that through Sept 1st all restaurants, shops, pool, spa and kid's programs/activities will remain EXACTLY as they always are (not sure I believe that one). When I asked this I said, "it isn't the noise that concerns us all that much but the programs, etc". Her response to the programs was as above and then she said, "the noise will be VERY loud and significant". Since I booked through a TA she wouldn't give me specific details on what others are being offered. I will work with my TA this week to find out our options. I don't want to be in a resort that looks like a heavy construction zone!

Hi all

apoligies if I am repeating anything that has been said but I have not had time to read the whole thread!

We are booked to stay at the AKL Dec 20 for 7 nights. I have contacted our TA and the 'line' I have been given is that Disney are 'Upping' the construction work to bring forward the 'end' date. People are, as many of you know, being 'asked' to change hotels but only US guests!!!!!

Any comments!

Your DEC stay should not be affected.

OK let's not lose perspective here.
It's not really a bad idea. They closed the haunted mansion for rehab during the summer and folks were mad about that. Unfortunately adding/maintaining any property involves construction and as much as any one would love to be able to predict how construction will go, it's impossible! Just ask anyone who has had a kitchen remodeled. AKL is temporarily experiencing a set back, they are not turning the entire resort into a time share and you certainly don't have to become a DVC member to enjoy the magic.

To all the disney Brides,
Congratulations and enjoy your honeymoon where ever you stay. Try not to stress about making it "perfect". It already is perfect, you're marrying the man of your dreams. Enjoy the magic that you two will make where ever you park for the night.
I say this as a women who got stuck on a cruise ship in the middle of the western carribean during a hurricane, 25 years later still stuck to my dh.

Yes...that's talk about honeymoons. WOW. To be at Disney. WOW.
My honeymoon...we were married on Friday, DH had no time off as he had just started a new job...only 6 months...no vacation built up...so...we drove a Ryder truck from Michigan where we once lived to Iowa on Sunday because he had to work on Monday. I-80 ain't pretty.:rotfl: Our car was stolen a week later.:scared1: How can one live north of Detroit and never even know someone who had their car stolen and then have it stolen in Iowa??:confused3

Enjoy!! It will be Magic. AKL or no AKL...Disney will be wonderful.

I am currently booked in a Pool View room (not a bunkbed room) at the AKL from Aug 12 - 26th. Do you think I will be asked to move? The main reason we wanted to stay at AKL was because of the Animals. I don't think I want to stay there if the animals are not going to be around as much. I am booked on a Disney Cruise on August 26 (with transfers from the Resort to Port). There are only transfers from a few of the resorts, so I would need to be moved to either the Poly, GF or BC. I would be happy with any of those options. I booked my vacation last year because I like having things well planned. This is driving me crazy. My TA is on Vacation and Disney will not talk to me directly. I want to know where I will be staying so I can change a few of my dining reservations before it is too late.

Hey...we are on the cruise and get off on Aug 26 and then check in AKL on the Aug 26, we are doing the opposites :) Sorry, I just thought was neat!!

I am holding tight until I hear from my TA. I want to stay at AKL, and since it is the end of August we should be ok. (Yes, I am an optimist) :)
Besides my kids want the room with the Bunk Beds!! I don't want to be the one to tell them they can't have them!!

A Cool Coincidence!
I am amazed by the number of people who still want to stay at AKL even with all of the construction. I am wondering if maybe it isn't all that bad. Are they planning to increase construction during the July 9th - September 1st period (i.e. into the night)? If so then I really don't think I would want to be there. My fear is that if I don't get my ressie changed now (and I am asked to change in August), then perhaps the good resort choices will be gone.

Wow, you're somewhat in the same boat as me. I don't check into AKL until 23rd Aug for 7 nights. It's our honeymoon and I don't want to be disturbed by construction also I hear they are moving the majority of the animals. We are also going on a cruise, getting picked up on the 30th from AKL at the moment. I have called my TA and asked about relocating now as I don't want to be left with no choice in resort!

Okay am now really confused. My TA just got back to me and said she called our tour operator (Tradewinds) who have said that there is no construction going on at AKL, but it is nearby. This is ridiculous, I have spoken to 3 CM's on the phone about this construction. I am correct in saying that it is in the AKL aren't I. She asked them about switching me to The Poly and they said they had never heard of it:rotfl: Shows how much they know!!!
She is calling me back after calling them back again!

I've called numerous times. I can't get my resort changed for nothing! They just always say it's nothing. They'll call you if you need to be changed is what they say. I'm so aggravated because I do want to switch resorts, but I don't want to pay more money!!! This stinks!!!

Someone posted a phone number so I called it. The CM was well less than feeling the magic. He did say that the animals were out 'roaming around', sidestepped the construction questions ('well it depends on what they are doing' when questioned about the niose). He was definitely in the mode of not talking, but maybe the phones are ringing so much they have gotten to that point.

We are just going to wait and see if we get a call. WE (DH and I) decided that if asked we will move but we will need to be on the monorail.

Good luck everyone.. I know we all planned for our perfect trip...

Yes, there is definitely construction going on at the existing building. Your stay is right around the time they should have finished up most of the work -- so the construction may not be an issue for you. However, for the tour operator to be so clueless as to what's going on is unacceptable. Sounds like you and your TA will need to stand firm, don't back down. Please keep us updated on your situation. Wishing you a magical honeymoon! pixiedust:

The thing is I know that Disney are moving people that are staying in my time frame and that is what bothers me. To be completely honest, I do really want to stay at AKL but not if it's not going to be the experience I paid for.

I just got off the phone with my TA. He called Disney while I waited. It took about 10 minutes and I was moved to the Poly for the same price I was paying at the AKL. I stayed at the Poly last year and I loved it. My kids wanted to try AKL this year, so they will not be as happy as I am.

jhryb - No way, I take it you are in the States? It may be easier for you to do it. My TA has to call our tour operator and our tour operator is refusing to budge as they think we wont be affected, not only that she said if I wanted to move to the Poly, I would have to pay £1800 more, WHAT????

I am from Canada. I booked with CAA (AAA). My TA at CAA called reservations and they transferred him to Guest Services. A lady from Guest Services made the switch with no problems.

Is there no way to do this and cut out the middle man (TA) my TA seems to be hopeless when it comes to this, I know what I want but they seem unable to do it! Can I not just call Guest Services myself?

It would seem that a simple call to CRO isn't going to do it then.
Perhaps ask for Guest Services.

I know when POFQ was closed and we were told we had to move to CBR, I really had to push the issue. Because of these boards, I knew that others were not all being moved there and they were being moved to deluxes for a small upgrade price. I wouldn't agree to move CBR. They finally gave me another number and we were moved to AKL or anywhere we wanted to be moved.

I do remember another post where they stated people in the UK were not being moved.

Why would people in the UK not be moved? That doesn't make any sense, surely we will all experience construction regardless of where we're from?

I don't think the entire Lodge is closed so perhaps only certain people would have to be moved. It's less expensive for Disney to call people in the states if they had to move them.

I have no idea. I just read it on a post.

Our next trip scheduled for 8/15/07 to 08/24/07, has been crazy to plan so far to say the least. We rented DVC points for a studio at the Beach Club Villas for the second half of our trip, 8/19 to 8/24 (5 nights). So far, and I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed as I write this until we check in, that portion of the trip has been uneventful. Well not totally uneventful. The cost of renting made it very affordable and possible for us to stay there. The five nights in the studio for 3 adults was $682.50, $136.50 per night total, YEAH! What a great deal, pretty happy with the savings and would have been pretty happy with just that but hoped to get free dining for Part 1 of the trip 8/15 to 8/19. I originally booked CSR on 1/21/07, this is one of our favorite moderate resorts, for 3 adults (additional $10.00 or $15.00 per day for the extra adult), 7 Day MYW Waterpark and More tickets and the MYW dining plan for $1999.71. I was a little down when I found out that this year free dining started later in August.

On 5/8/07, a friend on TGM contacted me via a PM & e-mail to tell me that someone on the DIS had provided a code for a decent discount. I called that morning to see if it could be applied to our CSR reservation but I couldn’t do that. I could use it at POFQ, our other favorite moderate resort, savings us around $300.00. I could also upgrade to the BWI for a decent price but of course more money then my original reservation. I knew my daughter Eryn would just rather stay at CSR this trip so I decided against moving to POFQ even though I would have saved the money. The next morning I was still thinking about that discount code and decided that if it was only about $200.00 more total for the Poly or CR with the discount I would go for it. Nothing was available with that code at those two resorts. Just for the heck of it I asked about AKL. The discount could be used and I would save $27.00 from my original reservation at CSR for the 3 of us. I didn’t bother to check in with my daughter, I took the deal!

A few days ago I was contacted again by my TGM Fairy Godmother Guardian Angel telling me that AKL was moving their guests to other resorts due to the construction. I called and was transferred directly to AKL. The CM said our reservation was OK an dif we had not received a call already we wouldn’t have to move. YEAH again! Still I kept reading others accounts about being required to change resorts. I called back a second time on another day and was told there was no note on my reservation so no move was necessary. Still reading about the moves I called again last night and spoke to a CM who said the notes she had concerning AKL said that everyone was being moved and contacted in order of their check in date and room category. I explained that I was being proactive and she put me through to a special number at Guest Services knows as “Outbound” that was handling all the AKL moves. I left a message and was promptly called back. Another great CM pulled up my reservation and confirmed that we would have to be moved and also when asked confirmed that everyone was being moved. Now I’m not sure if this is just for the same period of time that I had reservations or until September 1. The CM offered SSR (1 bedroom) at 120.00 per night which probably would have given me back a little refund making it a GREAT deal but one that we are not interested in having stayed at a DVC and knowing we were heading to a DVC for Part 2 of this trip. WL was the next offer and I said no that that one too. I know many love the WL, I love the lobby but really dislike the look of the rooms. She asked where we had never stayed and I said the CR and the Poly. She checked CR, Eryn’s first choice and said she could get us in for two nights then we would have to move. I don’t mind moving once but twice in such a short trip would be a bit much. She then checked the Poly and said they had availability and we could make the change at no cost to us. I wanted to modify my reservation last night but for some crazy reason even though I made my own reservation as a TA the owner of the agency got listed as the TA on my reservation. Because of that I couldn’t make the change. I spoke to the owner of my agency last night and she had an early appointment this morning so she told me to call back as her to me the modification myself. I called this morning, left a message again and a couple of hours later received a call back. We now are staying at the Poly, garden view for $27.00 less then what we originally booked at CSR back in January! I backed out the dining plan and the tickets from the package and we are paying $168.53 per night with tax for 3 adults at the Poly.

Even though we wanted to really, really, really stay at the AKL I am happy to be staying at the Poly, especially at that price. I feel like we have hit the DW lottery with this deal. What a trip, planning this trip has been.

If you are staying at AKL for the time period mentioned in this thread and you have not received “the call” you should call them and keep calling until you speak to the Outbound staff. If you want a 1 bedroom villa at $120.00 per night, they will probably offer that first at SSR. It’s a really great deal and you will have so much room with the full kitchen and stackable laundry right in your room! I was told that they have taken over most of the 1 bedrooms there just for this purpose. I was also offered YC at no additional cost, another great deal, but since we are staying at the BCV’s we wanted something a little different. Remember you can negotiate, just ask. I am almost positive that I could have gotten the GF if rooms were available in the category that I was eligible for, I just am not interested in staying there. Be persistent and you should get a
