Angels & their wonderful men...a new thread for a new year!!!

Marsha, tell Pete that I attended my first Masonic funeral today.

Actually, the funeral itself was like something out of a movie. A handful of friends and family gathered at graveside in a light rain, umberellas open, at a small country Baptist church in a very rural setting.

A young preacher reading from the 23 Psalms and then all of us singing the first and last verse acapella of Amazing Grace.

The Masonic portion followed the regular Christian service. We had opened lodge by ceremony an hour prior to the service and then donned aprons and a sprig of acacia (Cedar in our case) and stood near graveside, where we all paid respect by ritual. It was actually rather beautiful.

Then friends and family were invited to the lodge, instead of a family member's home, for refreshments where all the ladies had been bringing cassaroles, etc.

Just another country funeral in 'Bama to a former employee here who had befriended me. He retired last year and was only 55 when he passed away this week from colon or spinal cancer.

Alan, please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your friend and brother. I hope the world is a better place that he had been here, if only for a short time. Amazing Graze always brings tears to my eyes, and even now I can see them welling.

Hey All!!
We have Meijer's, Kroger's & a Super Walmart here......the prices on cereal & snacks for the kids are unbelievable at Walmart. Most of my grocery shopping is done at Meijer though.
AA~I'm sorry about your co-worker/friend's death.....55 is so young.....it sounds like it was a very moving & beautiful funeral service.
I had to take Matthew to the eye doctor this morning~he was due for an exam anyway but his glasses broke completely last night. We can pick the new ones up tomorrow...until then he'll have to deal with being near sighted.

I did not begin wearing glasses until after I was married. I realized that I needed them when I had to stop the car one night and get out to read a street sign.

I'm doing muuuucccch better now.

Silly Lars - Carol makes road trips for those things, ya know!

AA - sorry to hear about your former co-worker. :(

Alan, so sorry to hear the news about your friend.

We have a Super Wal-mart, Albertsons, Homeland and IGA. Wal-mart has the best prices and a good selection, but I go to one of the others if I don't want to face a crowd.

Alan, how do you pronounce "Delchamps"? I know a family with that name and they say it del-shaw. I always wondered if you say the name of the store the same way?

OMG, 14 pages and we have to move................

Shall we have one of the big, strong, handsome men relocate us? Or should we ask one of the guys here?

It is pronounced Dell Shamps.

They are a family in Mobile but the chain is in more than one state.

Now Marsha, that was a cheap shot...one day you might need help from one of us. :p

Good afternoon friends.

Another sign of kids growing up. Sarah just registered to vote. She will be 18 by the general election in November so can vote in the primary in March. We just found this out and today was the last day to register for the promary.

Really Lars, what Laura said. DH and I make house calls.

Alan, sorry about the loss of your friend. 55 is way too young.

As far as grocery stores, we have Acme and Food Lion.

Ah, Acme...

The home of distinctive shoppers

Now think about this carefully....do you really want to live with a title that we would make up for 150 whole pages??? That would probably be the fastest 150 pages you've ever gone through. Heck, Steph's posts alone take up a page at a time.

I could just see some now:

Angels and their Tips for doing Laudry

Angels at the Spelling Bee (thought I missed that "promary" one there didn't you Carol)

Angels and the Men they Love (to torment)

Angels and the Finer Points of Grocery Shopping

I wonder if E! can explain this.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Three livestock exhibitors at last year's Ohio State Fair have been disqualified for allegedly outfitting their Holstein cows with hairpieces.

State Fair inspectors said the three glued or painted hair from another part of the animal or from another animal to create straighter backs on the cows and enhance their appearance in the show ring.

Kreg Krebs and his brother Kenneth of Fredericksburg, and Scott Long of Clayton, Mich., could be required to forfeit all winnings, said Department of Agriculture spokeswoman Melanie Wilt. The winnings had been withheld by fair officials.

Wilt said state inspectors at the fair discovered the fake hair when the cows were leaving the show ring on Aug. 10.

The men have 30 days to request a hearing in which they could present their cases to an independent hearing officer.

And now back to our usual topics -
Lou, you get it, don't you????

Thank you Alan. I am laughing so hard that I am crying. And the dogs are looking at me like I have sprouted 2 more heads!

I take back anything that you may have thought was mean (about YOU).

Carolyn, you just made me realize that I will miss seeing those Bears everywhere :) Our Giant Eagle opened last weekend so they didn't have much down time. It was awful for a few weeks though.

Alan, I am so sorry about your friend :(

Okay you guys are laughing at the cow thing but I totally understand it and it is sad when people have to cheat like that!! Truly unbelievable!!!!

Anywho I need to hit my bike and do some stuff around here for a while :)

Alan, sorry for the loss of your friend.:(

But the cow picture has me ROFLMAO. :rotfl:

That is much less scary than Lou's Dale Jr. picture on the riddle thread!

Lou, I think any title you make up would make us have the thread that is most viewed.;)
