Haystacks

In a medium saucepan, mix 2 cups sugar (I use less), 1/2 cup butter or margarine, 4 tablespoons cocoa, and 1/2 cup milk. Bring to a boil over medium heat, until mixture is smooth and silky.

Meanwhile, in a large bowl mix 3 cups Oats, and 1 cup coconut. When oven mixture is ready, remove from heat and mix with oat mixture.

Drop from spoons onto parchment lined baking pan, in a 'haystack' style.;) Put in fridge and chill until well set. Makes about 15 large ones, or twice as many small. I will then transfer to freezer and bring out at X-mas!

Marshmallow Roll

Melt 1 square semi-sweet chocolate with 1 tablespoon butter or margarine.

In a bowl mix 1 cup icing sugar, 1 beaten egg, 1/2 bag colored mini marshmallow. Add melted chocolate to this mixture. Mix well.

On a parchment paper or wax paper, pour out some coconut. Roll the mixture into a log and roll log in the coconut. Roll up in the parchment and pop into the fridge again until well chilled and set. Then you can transfer to freezer if you wish. Bring out close to time you want to eat it, as it is easier to slice when cold.

Enjoy!:goodvibes

AHEM...since you asked....

There is a room discount which varies per resort. If you reserve the room under the discount rate (up to 30%, but Beach Club is not near that high), you get park tickets at a reduced rate. So...

for the pkg price off the Disney website I get $4500 and a bit for standard view, 5 day MYW tix, and Dining plan.

Using spreadsheet numbers, and reduced ticket prices I am getting a total of about $3700 for all the same things. Savings of $800 and change. This is only $400 more than our planned stay at POR!

Now...if we were to stay at POR, and use the promo, we would be going from $3300 to about $2800. A savings of $500.

So do we put out a little more and stay at Beach Club??? Or stay where we are and save some $$$ towards November. Ummm....Beach Club is calling my name....I can hear it!!:hyper:

So, you can only get the discounted tickets if you are booked for 4 nights, right? This would mean I would have to extend our stay by one night? Oh, the horror!! Also, you talk of a spreadsheet. Is this one you've made or one that someone has shared on the thread?

After reading the recipes, I have a feeling after I make them, and eat way too many (b/c they sound so good!!) I will be cursing your evil genius recipes that made me eat way too many.

Jen: Thanks for posting those! Oh BOY, anything with coconut and I'm game. :worship: ::yes::

... and I'm with Wookie, I say book it now. :thumbsup2

What are everyone's favourite holiday cookies, by the way? Well, we already know Jen's. :goodvibes I'm kinda... sorta ... running out of cookies already. I don't know where they've been disappearing to. :rolleyes1

Look on page 7 and 9 of Danny25's thread. Page 7 is the link to the value and moderate spreadsheet, and page 9 is the deluxe spreadsheet. If you cannot view it download to your computer and view it that way. Worked ok for me.:goodvibes

Yes, I enjoy spreading around the self loathing that goes along with eating way too many of these treats! ;) I know that feeling well!

Again I am in your post!!

Thanks, I'll check out that page.

Oh and I am so excited!! So my family is big dog lovers. My mom and dad drove to NOLA twice to get rescue dogs from the group my sister worked with while going to law school. Anyway, my sister has wanted an Irish Wolfhound forever. One has come up for adoption from a local agency, and they may get it. The family, that owns the 7 yr old dog is given him up. According to my sister, "they are moving from their current large mansion into a smaller one and they think the dog is too big for the smaller mansion." I hope they get the dog, so I can go to her house and have a snuggle party with all three of her furbabies. I miss having a dog, but we can't have one while we are living here.

Oooooooo, I apparently managed to shut down a thread. :rotfl2:

I always love how people only see what they want to see.

Again, glad I have this thread...:grouphug:

Maybe that's why we have this thread, the rest of the boards can't handle us. :rotfl:

The one about "what does a great smile, love of Disney and good attitude get you?" Thread...

Sigh....I was merely trying to explain people's positions...

Wow, that was an interesting read. Especially the person that said they would no longer spend their "discretionary dollars" at Disney since they have only gotten one upgrade in 30 years of trips. When I read that I was just like "wow....really??" I like that Disney doesn't have a loyalty program. Some people can't afford to go to WDW 4 times a year. They may only be able to save enough for one trip in their life time. I don't see where the person that is able to afford Disney 4 times a year is any more deserving of the little pixie dust that a free upgrade brings vs someone on their first (and likely) only trip. I just don't see that fitting in with what Walt believed.

Hello RC family. After the tragedy in CT yesterday I wanted to pop in and tell you all that I love you and I am so happy to have you guys in my life. I don't always get to keep up around here but I'm always thinking of you ladies. You have a special place in my heart.

Oh, {{{Dani}}}, how sweet. I feel the same and am so grateful we met on the Dis. Times like this remind of us of how much our friends truly mean to us. Thank you so much for the lovely post. :group hug:

I haven't been around much lately, and admit to skimming the thread ;) but hope you all do not mind my making a suggestion to honor the children and teachers who lost their lives last week.

I know it is difficult to look at the photos, read and listen to the stories, watch the latest news updates, but please, please know how much it means to the parents and family of the children and adults who passed - our watching, reading and learning about each victim is a way we can honor them and their families. it may be difficult for us, but it is impossible for you to begin to imagine the pain the families are not only going through now, but facing for the rest of their lives as the numbness wears off - I can tell you it means so very much to a bereaved parent to know others take the time to honor their child by looking at the photos and reading the stories...saying their name. And do please remember that every victim was someone's child no matter their age.

You are all wonderful, caring women and I know will take a suggestion to heart. Maybe do something in honor of those who passed....pay it forward in the fast food line...give a little something to someone who would least expect it for Christmas or as a way to begin the New Year. Bless you!!:goodvibes

I agree. I mean, spend your dollars how you choose, but I was really irritated by that particular post too!

MM the thread killer! But we still love you!

Hey, I like to live on the edge sometimes! :rotfl2:

I completely agree. As difficult as it is for me to read about those children and look at their pictures, I do it....because, if it were me in those parents shoes, I'd want them to remember my child. We owe it to those children never to forget what happened to them. And I know the Dis is not supposed to be a forum for political discussions, etc...I do believe that these events are quite representative of a lack of moral teachings in our society. A lack of teaching of the respect and value of life, and simple respect for one another. I mean this in no way religiously or politically...it does not require religion or politics to know how to live a moral life though some people do learn it through religion (myself)...you can be an atheist and know right from wrong and how to treat people with respect. I do not begrudge anyone their beliefs, believe me!

You see it even at Disney, and it comes up in threads all the time, of people treating each other, and CM's, etc with disrespect...likely because of a sense of entitlement and more likely because they weren't taught basic morals...and sadly, their children will grow up the same.

Sigh...gotta get off the soapbox, but if people stuck to a good moral code and respected one another, this world would be a lot better place. No excuses for that shooter, but he was probably bullied in school (lack of respect from others)...and maybe if just ONE person had reached out to him....:sad2:
Pure speculation of course...

I tell my girls to love themselves, love one another, be kind to others. I try to live my life the way I want them to be as well.

Sorry for the rant....I have cried everyday since Friday (except for today, though the days not over yet, lol) I feel like I did right after 9/11, which was another event that fundamentally changed me as well.

While, it is very difficult I have made it a point to read the obituaries in the paper each day. I have also gone to one of the memorial sites, laid flowers in memory and read the little notes that people have left...

Jen: Oh, it was the dog. That's it! The dog ate my cookies. :rotfl: I'm with your girls, those would be my favourite cookies too... especially considering they've got coconut in BOTH! :faint: After mine own heart. :goodvibes

Wookie: What are those orange delicacies in the pic? You can't just tempt us without an explanation. :bitelip:

GG: Are you on the road still?

Hear, hear, Candace. I agree 100% with everything you said. :worship: Today was the first day I haven't blubbered but I haven't read any articles today. There's still time to change that...

Christine: Speaking of paying it forward, I just read a FB post referencing the Sandy Hook PTA. I think I'll sit down with Miss M and do this. It's a small gesture but it seemed like a nice thing for the two of us to do together. Quoted from the PTA page:

Welcome Students to a Winter Wonderland

When school resumes for Sandy Hook, it will be in a new building. Parent-volunteers are working to ensure that the students are welcomed back by a winter wonderland with the entire school decorated with as many unique snowflakes as possible. We encourage senders to be as creative as possible, remembering that no two snowflakes are alike. Please make and send snowflakes by January 12, 2013 to the Connecticut PTSA address at the bottom of this page.

...

Please send all snowflakes and donations to:

I have cried every day as well. It by now way excuses it, but you can almost understand why a teenager (or adult) who is already not mentally stable, and has been picked on year after year by the same kids would finally had a mental break big enough to lead to something like this. I'm not saying it makes it right, or they were justified. It's just there is more logic to it, since in their minds they are killing the source of their pain. These were little angels that probably still had dads checking under their beds and in their closets for the Boogie Man, and their moms kissing their boo-boo's to make them better. All I know for sure is when I can feel myself starting to get annoyed with my boys, I can't help but think how those parents would do anything to have their child annoying the fire out of them.

Wookie: What are those orange delicacies in the pic? You can't just tempt us without an explanation. :bitelip:

They're called Beth's Orange Cookies. Here is the link to the recipe on allrecipes.com. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/beths-orange-cookies/
I know when I make it, I have to double the recipe for the icing or I run out. Also, they don't taste as good without the icing. They are ok, just not as good.

Why aren't there any snowflake smilies.....bet Kook can find one!!:goodvibes
