Hi all! I leave for my trip in a month and I still can't settle on a resort. I would love to stay at WL, but with the current discount rates it just isn't feasible. I'm currently booked at POR, but I'm afraid that it will involve a lot of walking and I am still recovering from a foot injury. My choices at the moment are between Pop (preferred room), CSR (preferred room), or POR (garden view). I would rather stay on the less expensive end, but can anyone give me some reasons to choose one over the other. I think I'm unconvinced because I am not really in love with any of these properties yet. I hope some of you can help me make this decision once and for all. I hope the 1000th time will be the charm

BanditsMommy!! Can't give you any firsthand insight on POR or CSR, but we have stayed at POP many times, and love it. And especially with a preferred room you should be close and convenient to both Classic Hall and busing.

Pop has great transporation to the parks, but note - the bus stops are usually the farthest away at the parks, if that is a concern for you with your foot (not sure where CSR or POR factor in on location of bus stops).

Both CSR and POR are large and spreadout, but know that at least CSR has internal bus stops, which you may like or not. Both are very pretty resorts and offer queen beds (POP has double) if that is an important factor.

None of your 3 choices have interior walkways (only WL which is not feasible, right?). My choice would be POP ---it's definitely fun, preferred room will have you close to transpo and the savings is a plus!

MM Good luck with the raise. I forgot what a raise looks like. My company has frozen raises for the last 4 years. I have to work more hours to make more money. My only other option would be to quit vacationing.

Pas Airfare for 7 to California would be pretty high.

This was our first time to Dl with no crowds. The last time we were there the Redsox were playing the Angels in the playoffs, and it was packed. It really turned my Dh off from Dl, but after this trip he actually wants to go back, and so do my kids of course. Dl is so much different than WDW in terms of crowds. Anytime school is out Dl is going to be 10. Weekdays when kids are in school seems to be fine.

I just rebooked my May trip before CRO closed. 2 nights at AKL CL and 9 nights at YC GV non-cl for now. I think we will spend a night in Dallas and a night in Miami. These two cities are where we have the greatest chance of moving to. If anybody lives there and has any tips on where to look let me know.

I'm putting a cruise out my mind until Fall. I'm hoping for another great 60% off discount.

Oh and our AG dolls arrived today! I love them....I think I want one for myself! I opened the boxes and smoothed out their hair, said hello to them, and put them back away. Don't tell anyone! But meeting those dolls made me really happy!

Jen, this made me smile, and no you are not weird, this is something that I did too!! (unless we are both weird ). It's made me a litte teary eyed remembering the excitement I felt for Sam, when her dolls would arrive.

The one time we stayed at AK, we were at Kidani ... beautiful. We never used buses (we had a car).

At $400 more than budgeted at POR, it sounds good compromise over WL. AKL will be a different feel/vacation over POP. Both are good choices, it matters what kind of feel and vibe you want in a resort for this vacation. Will you be looking for lots of down time at your resort?? Did you already plan on ADRs there?

Uggghhhh, that would bother the heck out of me too. I don't blame you for calling. You paid a lot of money to be able to enjoy that balcony.
You know, I had posted on a thread about people smoking on their balconies once here. I said that if someone was smoking on one near me, I would call the manager. A person from the thread PM'd me several times. Basically to tell me to that if I got what I truly deserved I would burn in heck (of course they used the other word), and it would be soon. They were so nasty that I sent copies to a mod. The mod said there was nothing they could do since it was done through a PM, even as nasty as the PMs were.

I love CSR. I think it's pool is second only to SAB. The preferred area is really close to the main building. They also have a club level which I actually had booked for about 2 days before I switched to AKL. I still havent made up my mind.. We stayed at AKL once and our room was a mile...no kidding..from the lobby. At GCH in California same thing. The deluxe resorts may look more compact, but that can be deceiving. The difference is your walking inside instead of outside. If you do stay at AKl request a room close to the lobby. I highly recommend CSR if your trying to save money. The bus stop and lobby is close to the preferred area. The pool is about a 5-10 minute walk.

I think I may have talked myself into switching back from Akl to CSR.
I'm glad my invoices are coming by email and not snail mail this time around. I killed quite a few trees this past summer.

Unless you want to spring for private school, do no put your kids in the Dallas School District. They are always in the news, and it isn't good. If you don't mind living outside of Dallas, there are a lot of good areas to pick from. It really depends on your budget and how much of a commute your willing to do. Also, when they say Dallas, is it really in Dallas? A lot of the time people will say Dallas and it's really Grapevine or even Fort Worth. Our boys have been to two school districts in the area and I can hands down say that the Northwest School District is the best, especially if your child has any learning issues (like dyslexia). If money is no object, and you want a zip code that looks good on paper, go with Southlake. A lot of ex (and current) pro athletes live there. When Glen Beck moved to Texas, I'm pretty sure that's where he moved. The schools are great, especially if you are into sports. Mention Southlake to anyone that knows anything about high school football in Texas and they either love them b/c they went there (or they respect their legacy), or they hate them b/c when they played high school ball Southlake handed them their rears on a platter. It is the only high school in Texas (heck maybe in the US) that you can buy vanity license plates for your car with their team mascot of them. Personally, I have a love/hate thing with them. I respect their legacy and the DH graduated from there, but I hate them b/c my high school played them. It wasn't a question of whether we would win when we played them, but if we would get to get at least one touchdown, and hopefully come out of it without any injuries. My senior year, only one team scored a touchdown on them in the regular district season, being my high school. The other teams in the district didn't score at all against them. I can think of some other areas, if you want the info. I just need to know what you are looking for.

Thanks for the info. My kids are currently homeschooled. I'm not sure if we'll do it forever, but for know that's what we're doing. I know it's easy to homeschool in Texas. My nursing liscense is also good in Texas so that's a plus.
We have heard Grapevine is a good area. We looked at houses in Flower Mound about 15 years ago and liked it, but settled on Phoenix instead. The only thing that scares about Texas is the weather. I have only lived in California and Arizona. I'm used to perfect weather. It does get hot here in the Summer, but the other 9 months are perfect. 78 degrees and sunny today. Money is an object. We are very middle class. The cost of living is so low in Arizona, and nurses are paid well here. Living in Arizona is the only reason we are able to spend 25k + on vacations every year. I would love to keep my vacation budget, but I'm not sure I'll be able to do that living somewhere else. I have heard nursing salaries are comparable to Arizona. My dh's salary will be the same no matter where he goes. He works for an airline. I guess cost of living is our main concern. We would also like to be in a nice area close to a lifetime fitness.

Well as you know if you are worried about the cost of living - don't move back to California!!! We've actually thought about moving to Arizona. It would be about the same driving time to our adult kids in Los Angeles/Santa Monica as we are now in Sacramento .... and the weather would be better!!!

I actually know several people that home school their kids in the DFW area. Grapevine is a good area. I have a friend that works at one of the elementary school in Grapevine. It is between Dallas and Fort Worth, kinda to the north, and it where the DFW airport is. There is a lot to do in GV. The Grapevine Mills mall, /w Legoland and Sea Life Aquarium. I'm not sure about the lifetime fitness, since we aren't members, but I think there is one in Southlake, which is right by GV. Also, there if you want to work as a nurse, there is the Baylor Grapevine Hospital. My mil worked there since 1989, but had to stop working there b/c of going on disability. I don't know if your looking to buy or rent, but when we were just looking to rent a home in the Northwest School District, it was hard to fine something close to $1,100. Heck I even found a single wide trailer house for $1,200 a month.

When we go to Salt Grass he gets those and their baked potato soup instead of a steak. Maybe I'll go back to the Jiko idea. It just has to be two credits. oooo, or maybe we could do the luau at the Poly.



Some threads can get prety crazy!! I remember one about the guy that sky writes over WDW. CathrynRose was complaining that he ruined her pictures and that no one would be convinced to become a Christian based on seeing his sky writing on vacation. Then she also said that b/c of his sky writing, it would keep her from ever becoming a Christian. I pointed out the problem in her theories. That if his sky writing could keep someone from becoming a Christian, it could also help someone become one. I guess using logic on her didn't work and she got nasty. Then again, from what I've read about her, that is just normal for her.

Yep, I think it is best to stay out of the arguments from now on for me. If nothing else, at least I can sleep easier knowing this MIL problem that I have seems to be universal!!

I like the sounds of Jiko, we haven't tried it though. I think we will save that one for our adults only trip that we will make someday!!

Scottsdale is the most expensive area in the valley. It's very nice. 16 years ago we bought a 3000 sq foot house on a golf course out in the middle of nowhere for next to nothing. Of course it has all built up into a really nice family community with all the infrastructure including a hospital a mile away.

I haven't skied at Flagstaff. My parents had a condo in Mammoth Lakes so I think I got spoiled as a kid. I also worry about getting injured and not being able to work. That would really screw up my Disney trips, and I can't have that. You are right we do have sports. I love spring training. I love the Dbacks. The only thing I have missed is the Ocean, but I guess you don't have that in SMF so no problem.

letthewookein - OMG. I cannot believe that the mods can't do anything about a PM like that. Unacceptable IMO. I'm sorry you were subjected to that.

No changes yet, but I don't think I'm done yet. I'm not feeling settled and Orbitz went and extended their sale. Now it even includes the second part of my trip.
