My rather inexpensive pc quit working yesterday after two years. Turns out the fan had a problem and melted the motherboard. *sigh*

I need a computer so the question became do I replace my pc or go for a Mac? The big benefit to a Mac is that my school board runs on them so it allows me to work from home and connect to the school systems (which refuse to play with pc's).

Sadly, my shopping experience at the Apple store was less then stellar. The store was busy, which is completely to be expected as it's the weekend before school starts. But trying to get someone to actually help me was like pulling teeth! I finally found someone who appeared to be about 14 who was willing to take my money but completely unwilling to answer questions to actually take a few minutes to show me anything. My computer came out, he rang though my credit card, and before I could say anything he walked off. To add to my disillusion with this store I also spotted another employee helpfully working with another family with his butt hanging so far out of his shorts I could see a good amount butt crack! These people don't know how to put on pants and I'm going to trust them to know about computers?!

Anyway, my new Mac and I are home and getting to know each other. As a pc user I'm finding things a little different but not too complicated. Apart from the terrible retail experience I think we're going to get along just fine. :goodvibes

Sorry about the store experience.

But, on the bright side, you have a new Mac! :cool1: Once you get used to it, I'm sure you're going to LOVE it! I've had mine for about a year now, and it's been the best computer I've ever had.

Good luck! :surfweb:

WELCOME TO THE MAC WORLD!!!!:cheer2:

I think you will find you made a great choice!!! I have been using Mac now for 7 years. I will never go back. I do have to recommend something thou. I still renew this every year and think it is so worth the $99 price tag.
It is called the "ONE TO ONE" I think it is a have to have with a Mac!

It is awesome, and will help you get the most out of your Apple! Once a week for an hour you can make an appointment for a private one to one class! you bring yours in and go over what ever it is you want to learn!

I love it. They helped me with everything from learning the in and outs of email to how to make a webpage.
now where can you get that for $99 bucks!!

either way....ENJOY!

So is it true that with Macs you don't have to worry about viruses? I have a work laptop and the dang thing keeps getting infected. At least I bring it into work and they clean it up but I'm thinking about getting a Mac for home use because I heard you dont have to worry about viruises. And just what makes a mac so different then a pc for simple uses like email and internet. Honestly thats about all i use a computer for and if a mac keeps the dang viruses off its worth the price in my book.

Macs rule!

Just thought I'd get that out of my system...

It doesn't help you this time, but for anyone else, you can make an appointment online and when you get there you have a genius to help you with decisions and shopping for as long as you need help.:)

Well you do have to worry, but not as much as with windows. There are viruses out there but not as many. Mac's are getting more popular and as they do are attracting more attention. It is always good to have an anti-virus on any computer.

In the Apple Store's defense, Apple just released the latest version of their operating system late last week, it's called Snow Leopard.

Sorry your experience wasn't so great, usually the Apple Store customer service is fantastic. If it bothers you tomorrow, make an appointment at the store to talk with the manager - give her a chance to improve the experience for other customers.

I know that my iMac isn't really the second coming for personal computers, but I wear I sometimes hear the angels sing when I'm using it :cool2:. This past week I actually broke down rigt before my one-year warranty expired and got Apple Care for two more years. Any technical support, either on-site OR at the Apple Store is now included/paid-for. I don't think anything major will go wrong, but it's nice to be able to actually call and talk to a human being when I'm having some kind of computer issues.

agnes!

I do this also. When I buy a Mac, I always pay cash (I know, it is a dirty word) but I wait till the first year to the date I bought it, then I get my applecare for the extra two years. I have had minor issues but it has ALWAYS been addressed in person right away! One huge issue with Apples are there customer service. It is in Austin Texas! not outsourced from where ever!

They also handle CS calls in Sacramento, CA, and they DO outsource to 3rd party call centers based in the US.
