~And It All Started With a Wish...and a Quarter and a Fountain~TR link, page 32!

What a gorgeous condo!!! Love the picture of Seth in his Steak and Shake hat!

We loved the condo. Yeah, the hat was a hit with everyone!

I'm officially joining in. I remember reading your intro when you started and I swear I suscribed then, but I guess I didn't:confused3

Seth is so adorable. I love the little Mohawk. He reminds me of the baby from the Incredible movie, Jack Jack?

The condo looks lovely and the pictures from Savannah are beautiful. I have never been there and would most likely attack the Praline sample guy too. They sound good!

Oh, and congrats on getting VWL. We are staying there for a few days in May. DH and I have been talking about adding on to our family soon so I will be on the lookout for that fountain:thumbsup2

Welcome!!!! Glad to have you! :) And that fountain is very powerful....good luck!

Your little Seth will be a seasoned travelor in no time.

He is so adorable sleeping in his car seat and Gramma too....

It was fun looking at the pics of your family enjoying Savannah!

I can remember reading about when you and Ray went there and now you are there with Seth..:)

You can find beauty in anything, even a drain hole.

I love the Outback, they got rid of ours...I miss the Bloom'in Onion.

Steak n Shake has become a new fav for us when we go down South.

Yummm...can't wait to hear what you ate at Paula Deen's. :goodvibes

Thanks! I'm sure Seth will be back to Savannah many times! We tend to go there for long weekend trips a good bit. We never eat at Outback and there's one right down the road....funny! I got Mahi Mahi with artichokes and sundried tomatoes in a lemon butter sauce and it was YUMMY!!! Forgot to take food porn pics there.

Thanks for sharing your trip. I want to get over there one of these days.
Looks a little cool, but still much fun. I know your mom loved being with Seth. :lovestruc

I'm like Ray - I'm all about the nuts. I miss swinging by the kiosk in Opry Mills to have a sample and take in that wonderful aroma.

Looking forward to Paula Deen pictures. I picked up one of her desserts in the Walmart bakery section, but it was not impressive at all. I got a chocolate bundt cake, and it was dry and very Walmart bakeryish - nothing special at all. I'll probably give one more thing a try, and if that's no good, I'll stop and just hope that Paula's stuff is really, truly better than that when it doesn't come from Walmart. ;)

Yes, Mom definitely enjoyed spending some time with him....she always does! We've gotten one of the Paula Deen's pre-made desserts - I think it was gooey butter cake. It was good but nothing spectacular....nothing like the real thing! Her food is great. I've heard some people say it's like what their grandmother makes and that may be true, but still SOOOOO good!

Oh my, Seth is just positively adorable! What a cutie patootie. Can't wait to hear what you thought about Paula Deen's restaurant!

Thanks! :) We've been to Paula's many times, but this was a first for my mom. It's always good!

Great update! Ya know, as many times as I have been in Savannah, I have never eaten at Paula Deen's and my mom loves her! We did eat at Uncle Bubbas (her brother's place) for our rehearsal dinner in June, but that's nothing like her place.

Uncle Bubba's is good, too. I got crab bites this last time we ate there and they were very yummy!

Seth gets cuter every day.

Thank you! :)

I'm joining in! Brand new to DISboards, and I'm loving it! can't wait to hear more!

Welcome!!!!! So glad to have you here! :)

Savannah is so beautiful. I'd love to visit down there one day. Can't wait to hear about your meal at Paula Deen's!

It's a very pretty city - we love it there!

I just found your report and am joining in.

Seth is adorable! The mohawk for school was too cute.

Congrats on VWL. We :love::love: (did I mention we love) the WL. You will have such a nice stay there.

Love the pictures of Savannah. We had talked about going back over Spring Break as it is my 2nd favorite place to visit (Disney being my first) but decided against it. I love Paula Deens so I can't wait to read about your dinner there. Where did you rent the condo? It looks nice. We have always stayed in a hotel but that would be nice the next time.

Erika

We are SO excited about staying at VWL! I can't wait. 6 months can't pass quickly enough! We rented the condo off a website I've used many times before. I don't want to link it here as not to break the rules, but it's v r b o . c o m. Just take the spaces out of that. You can get some great deals - just read the reviews and make sure they have pictures so you can see what you'd be renting. I find in downtown Savannah it's almost always cheaper to rent a condo than to stay in a hotel.

Savannah looks like such a fun, cute little city to visit! I'm glad yall had a nice time on your first day there :goodvibes

It is fun - you'd love it. If you've been to Charleston I hear it's very similar.

Thanks for the info! We're having a family reunion in Savannah in July and have been looking for a place that's affordable for all involved. It's been tough in downtown. We have stayed out Tybee, and Jekyll Island but folks want to be in the city this time. Condos might be the way to go! I'll have to check it out. We've had a few reunions in Charleston and it is a lot like Savannah - it's also a great city to visit! Do you mind saying what the name of the condo is?

I'll PM you the direct link to this condo. But it was only 2-bedroom so I doubt it would be big enough for more than like 4 or 5 people.

So on to Saturday!

On Saturday morning I walked 4 blocks over and 4 blocks down to get in line so we could eat at Paula Deen's restaurant, the Lady & Sons! It's really not that bad. You get there for when they open the hostess stand at 9:30 (the website says 9:30 but it's really more like 9:15 every time I've been there) and then you just tell the hostess when you want to eat and how many are in your party and she tells you what openings she has available. And then you come back later that day and have a very short wait. Better than waiting an hour for a table, if you ask me!

Anyway, I headed out around 8:30 and it was a beautiful day in Savannah!

I got us a dinner time for 6:00 and headed back for the condo. We finished up giving Seth breakfast (Ray and Mom were already started when I got back) and then hopped in the car and headed for Tybee Island. This would be Seth's first time seeing the ocean and he was ready!

One of those huge ships that comes in/out along River Street headed out to sea.....

Yes, those are surfers. But they had body suits on so I guess that kept them warm.

I want to learn how to do this but there's one problem: my fear of sharks.

We headed down to the beach. I was gonna put Seth's feet in the water, but once my bare feet hit it I knew it was a bad idea....way too COLD!!!

I would run along the shore and when the water came in, I'd scream and run back, thinking it would make him laugh. It didn't. He just starred at the water. I think he was thinking, "Man, that's a huge bath tub." :rotfl:

We just kind of hung out for awhile and walked along the beach and looked for shells. It was nice!

After our morning at the beach we headed back to Savannah and on the way stopped by Uncle Bubba's Oyster House (Paula Deen's brother's place) for lunch.

I remembered to take a picture of the mini cornbread muffins, of all things!

d542f461.jpg

Mom and Ray got fried shrimp, Carl got a burger (he doesn't eat seafood, but said it was really good) and I got crab bites (little balls of fried crab - look like hush puppies and they were GOOD!) and corn on the cob. It was all really yummy! Oh, and Seth had bananas. ;)

Up next.....the rest of our day in Savannah and dinner at Paula's! popcorn::

Look at that face!

How sweet. How precious. Those are special moments. Treasure every one. Before you know it you are celebrating their 20th birthday. Just got home after having dinner with he family for DD's 20th. I cannot believe I only have 1 teenager now. It seems like yesterday I was in labor waiting for her to be born.:cloud9:

I posted over on MeMoms that there is a stroller 5K in Oct. They are doing the route in AK this year. I am hpoing I can get to the MK 40th anniversary opening, if they do something special afterwards. Then I will bail b/c of the crowd.:lmao:

Looks like you guys had a great time in Savannah! Great food, wonderful scenery, just about perfect!

Those pictures of Seth at the beach were adorable. I don't think we've ever taken Everett to the beach, we really need to get on that! We might be going to Ft. Walton Beach in April, so I guess that could be it! :)

The pictures of Savannah are beautiful! I'd love to go there someday. I would also love to eat at Paula Deen's restaurant!

Seth is absolutely adorable. I love the pictures of you guys looking out at the ocean together.

Love Seth's expressions while he watches the ocean!

We have eaten at Uncle Bubba's before, and I never realized it was Paula Deen's brother's place!

I am really enjoying your trip to Savannah. Makes me really want to go over spring break but with two Disney trips planned this year I know DH will say no.

DH was gracious enough to get up for us and wait in line at Paula Deen's when we were there. He got there at 7:30 a.m. in the morning and was at the end of the building right before the line started to loop around. It was August so the heat was unbearable. I can't believe he didn't grumble or anything. I think he was looking forward to that scrumptious fried chicken!

I love your son's expression looking at the ocean. Boy, he will have a lot of fun there when he gets older.

I just got back from WDW and had to catch up! Great pics! We were thinking of stopping in Savannah because we drove from NY..after seeing your pics we should have went..

One of my dreams is to eat at the Lady and Son's. I love Paula Dean! Savannah looks really pretty. Those moss trees are :lovestruc

I love all the Savannah pictures. We are headed to Savannah this weekend DH nephew has just moved to a new house near the Savannah airport. We going down to see the new house and visit, while his mother, DH sister is visiting. I have a cousin that lives on Tybee Island so we may drive over Sunday afternoon.

Seth is really growing and becoming more aware of everything around him. He has the cutest expressions.

Paula has a cousin Johnny Gabriel that has a restaurant in Marietta that has the best desserts if you are ever up that way. Her red velvet cake is wonderful and was served at Paula's brother Bubba's wedding. The restaurant is only about a mile west of downtown Marietta, and on the main road leading out.

When facing the ocean, this was to the right of the pier, correct? If so, thats where we got married! Not right on the water but where you could see it. Its good to see it! :)

Great update!!

I love Ft Walton Beach!! (sorry to hijack, Dawn!)

I thunk I already commented on these last pictures, but apparently I just thunk wrong. :crazy2:

This is sweet. He's so cute. Looks like you guys had a great time. We still haven't made it to a real beach with the girls.

Maybe I commented on FB?
I dunno. :upsidedow

Dawn, I'm finally here.

Seth looks adorable with his fauxhawk. Congrats on getting VWL! He looks so precious staring off into the water.

Your mini-TRs of Savannah always makes me want to go there! I keep making notes of what you all do (especially the paula Deen reservations!).

Seth's facial expressions watching the ocean are adorable. Has he felt sand yet? When we went to visit my boyfriend's family in California, we went to Santa Cruz and that was his 1 year old cousin's first time to the beach. When he fell onto the sand he'd look at his hands covered in sand and start screaming as if to say, "what is this stuff?" Lol. His mom would wipe off his hands but then he'd fall onto the sand and start crying again :rotfl: It was pretty hilarious.

Loved the update Dawn! Seth's expression is priceless! I still remember the first time I took my little brother to the beach/ocean! He was scared of the water! I stood and held his hands and as soon as the water rushed up onto his feet he'd start crying! I've always wanted to go to Savannah! I love Paula Deen! One day i'll make it there!

I am subbing! Saw your Savannah update and checked it out. My GF's and I are staying in Hilton Head (DVC) in October and we hope to do a side trip into Savannah for a day and also a side trip to Charleston. We have never been to either town, so we are looking for creative ways to spend the day in both places.

Congrats on your upcoming trip. My DH and I just purchased a VWL DVC contract so as soon as the points are in the bank we hope to make a reservation. We stayed there last May in a 2BR and really enjoyed it. We learned that the villas are modeled after an early 1800 roundhouse and the reason the furniture is so mismatched is because that is the way people traveled then. They couldn't move large amounts of furniture at once, so they would just pick up odds and ends while on the road.

I highly recommend you take the lodge tour with Ranger Joe. It's offered at 9am on most mornings and it is REALLY GOOD. Plus, that man loves his job! Seriously, that tour is a hidden treasure.

PS - Your son is ADORABLE!
