Disney's current promotion is quite a promotion if you are adding on. It is especially good if you have a December use year.

It is fantastic if you buy SSR.

This is how is goes.

The cost of the points is $104. They are giving $10 back for a net of $94 per point.

If you buy 200 more points, they are also throwing in 270 Developer's points.

If you have a December use year, you can get an '06 use year, meaning that you get 200 use year points for '06, which you can bank right away AND you pay no maintanence.

So, 200 points would be $20,800.00 -$2000 (credit) = $18,800.00.
You will have 270 Developer points + 200 '06 points = 470 points.

Assuming that you get $10 per point by renting them out, that is $4700.

$18,800-$4700 = $14,100 which comes out to $70.50 per point.

To top it off, since the maintanence is calculated as of the time the deed closes, you will have to pay minimal to no '07 maintance.

Of course, there are no closing costs.

Now consider the following: If you could sell the '07 points for $10 per point, that would bring the cost of this contract to a net of $60.50 per point!!

Sell this in a few months for $82, you would still have all the '08 points available. You could actually make a $21.50 profit per point on a 200 point contract, netting $4300 in less than 6 months.

Not a bad financial move, I would say!!

This works the best with a Dec. use year, but still, with other use years...not as sweet but still not bad!!!

Resales will probably take a nose-dive for awhile!!

I was thinking along the same lines...plus don't forget about the 500 bonus rewards if you are an existing Disney Visa holder. I was never really interested in SSR but this current promo certainly has my interest peaked!

Are they offering the $10 discount AND the developer points AND the $500 reward card? :confused3 Previously you could get the discount OR the developer points and that was already a good promotion.

If you can now get both the discount and the developer points then that would indeed be great especially since we are a Dec. UY.

Is there a 200 point minimum for this promotion?

Thanks!

It gets even better if you have a Dec use year as you will get '06 points!!

With 200 points, you get 270 Developer points!!

No closing costs either since it is an add on!!

Overall, you can get the points, sell all the extra points and still sell the timeshare you bought for a profit.

first let me say I am TERRIBLE at math..

so what you are saying is if I JOINED DVC now (not an add on but actually signed up as a new member) and "rented" the extra 200 points that are given as a bonus if you purchase 200 points per year.. I'd be paying only $14,100?

that's not a bad deal for 200 points per year right?

hmmm.. I don't think my hubby is ready to sign up just yet anyway so it doesn't really pertain to me.. but I like daydreaming about it. :)

We are a Dec. UY so we would still get our 2006 points like we did with our other add-on. Guess I need to call my guide, Ron to get all the details. We would not rent any points, we need them for an upcoming trip.

Talked to our guide and it is indeed the $10 discount plus some developer points plus the $500 VISA rewards card if you pay for the down payment on your Disney VISA.

For a 160 SSR add-on we would pay $15,040. We would get 160 developer points. We would get a $500 reward card. Since we are a Dec. UY we would get our 160 points for 2006 to bank and then get our 160 points for 2007 on Dec. 1st. We would get 480 points to start off plus get the discounts and reward card. Not a bad deal at all.

If you want to do this promotion as a new member then the minimum point purchase is 225 (guide might have said 220, I was not paying as close attention to that part) instead of the usual 160 points.

The deal is similar for AKV except the discount is $8 per point and there are no 2006 points to be offered.

We are going to strongly consider doing this deal.

Thanks gblast123 for posting about this promotion! It may have cost me $15,000!! ;)

That would amount to about $70 per point. But, you would have to rent out all the extra points. Still, it is much less than the resales out there, and there is no closing costs.

This is only is you are a current member!!!

There is a different promotion if you are a new member. It is not as good but seems to be better than most resales out there.

My DVC Club Guide is Bruce Douglas. You can call him at 1-800-827-0457 and talk with him about it if you don't have someone already.

If you are really hard up, get someone with a Dec. use year to buy it for you and then transfer it to you. The only thing extra you would have to pay for is a title company to record the deed...shouldn't be more than $2-$300.

People on this board have a lot of camaridere and should be willing to help in this regard without any fee.

Good luck

The best deal is with 200 points since you get 270 developer's points. If you do the math, with the 06 UY, and the $500 Visa promotion, you will do quite well indeed.

In fact, you could use all the extra points, and sell this in a few months with your 08 points intact. Probably you could sell this for 82-85 per point. It would actually put money in your pocket if these figures hold true.

Good luck and happy hunting

I'm hoping to shortly purchase 160 points at SSR. I really want a December UY anyway because of the way we usually take our vacations, so I am right in thinking that if I manage to get a Dec UY I will get 06 points as well?

Do you think it is still a good deal if we have a Feb use year??

You will get 06 points if you buy SSR. No 06 points if you were to decide to buy AKV. We have bought based on the best deals and are strongly considering doing another add-on at SSR based on this new promotion. We "need" (translate "need" into we just really, really, really "want" more points) the points so it does not hurt to buy them while there is a good promotion available.

;)

Been dying to add on for the past month, we are already a DEC UY. DW wanted to add on to BWV. On a recent visit to Chicago, we toured the Doorway to Dreams and saw the AKV villas (Oct 13th). They were beautiful and the above incentives, we were ready to add-on to AKV. Been lurking on the boards and saw this thread and your SSR speech won me over. The additional 2006 points + 2007 points coming in 6 weeks + 100 Developer points is such a good deal. The only bummer is the Disney Visa -- I purchased 110 points to qualify for Developer points but you need to purchase 160 points minimum to get the $ 500 Disney Visa Reward. I still put
10% down payment on the Disney Visa and this is no interest for 6 months.

We denied the OKW extension and rather put the money towards more points.
We have been members for 11 years -- now we have half our points at OKW and half our points at SSR so in 2042 we will still have a Disney home. We have not stayed at SSR yet but we have tried all the other club resorts.

Oh I forgot that you have to buy 160 to get the $500 reward card. I want to add on 160 and DH thinks that adding 110 will be enough. We will see who wins that one! ;)

We have not yet stayed at SSR but will be staying there for New Years. We spent some time driving around the resort last week while we were at WDW and it is beautiful. I hope that our kids will like it as they think that it looks less Disneyish than AKV. We are looking foward to our next trip home! Congrats for your add-on!! :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Is it pretty easy to rent your points or is there a glut?
I'm thinking about getting a resale, but with the trips already planned for the next two years, I would lose points if I couldn't rent them out.
Added to that..if I bought in, would I be able to use points on current reservations at DLR and Adventures by Disney or would I have to cancel and rebook to use them?

I have a Oct UY at Akv... I don't want SSR, I need more for AKV's. I have the Disney Visa. SO I have to buy 160 points to get the Developer points or the $500.00 Gift card? :confused3

You get both.. However, you will lose any 07 points if you get an Oct. UY.

Are you sure about this? I don't understand why you wouldn't get '07 pts when they would still be good until 8/31/08. Maybe I'm just confused! :confused3
