An Invasion of a "STRANGER" Kind.... NEW THREAD IS UP!! Go Thee NOW!

My husband is the same way, Liesa. And that's why I worry about him being away far more than I worry about myself or the boys. We're used to him being gone and we stay busy and do okay. But, he's a homebody and he greatly misses his family when he's away.

Mine too! Homebody to the max!!
Luckily we aren't apart more than a couple weeks at a time, and not very often!

On our 2nd trip, I did the pick-a-pearl thing. I knew I wanted it ahead of time. My plan was to get one and have a mother's ring made. My middle son's birthstone is pearl and my other two boys are both emerald. Here are the pictures of us getting the pearl (I let Sully pick out the pearl):

I have a pearl girl, a diamond girl, an emerald girl, a diamond boy and a garnet boy. It'd make a lovely mother's ring...

(psst... Bekka ... hint, hint...:rolleyes1)

Unfortunately, there were no settings for rings with an emerald. We decided to look at DTD because they have a stand there that does the pearls too. But, they also didn't have anything for a ring that was what I wanted. I decided to go with a necklace instead and ended up with this:

I love it.

It is VERY lovely!! do you wear it often??

OF course we are!! It is pouring rain here now. Wonder if it will change back to snow? :confused3

I love Crapistan!!!!!! I wish we could name a country or state that... hummm maybe we can change New Jersey's name to that? :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Your process may be hideously long but it is so exciting!!!! :dance3:

I hope it changes to snow. It'd be fun to have more white. And will make WDW even BETTER!! :rotfl2:

Would fit perfectly, I think. It's a good name for any crappy place. :confused3

It is confusingly long, and makes my hair fall out with stress. Exciting- ok, that could be one word for it. Mebbe.

Sounds busy! I like having stuff like that to plan for, but, after 4 moves in 5 years I detest moving. It helps you get organized, that's for sure.

I have dreams about how little we'll actually have after I throw 90% of what we have here away. It makes me feel wonderfully nekid.

Morning Liessa !! The Pearls were a Big hit last September with the kids !! We didn't do the settings but they loved picking them out and the whole performance of the opening etc !!!!!

I think I"m going to have to just get the pearl. I crunched numbers (not my TP- that I scrunch, not crunch) again today, and am still way over. It was the extra days. Tis ok, but I"ll have to go budget on food those days and cut out a few other frills. STill very doable.

I didn't regret it, I just didn't see it coming.

Kinda like the school fees where DS is at right now. They creep up on you, and have Zero choice of paying. OR not.

"that woman needs a gift!"

I'd certainly say so!!! :worship:

Woohoo for pearl picking, we're planning on doing the same thing, but I'm going to order the cages from ebay when we get back. I had planned on getting them before we went, but Piper being in the hospital blew that plan! I thought it would be a neat souvenir that all 3 of us could have alike. :goodvibes:

I agree. A very nice little thing to bring back happy memories of WS!! :thumbsup2 Don't worry, you'll have lots of time to get them after you get home, and it should even be cheaper to have them inset once you get home.

Ok....

Now I just HAVE to get a pearl!

So......about that budget!

Call me.

Doesn't it sound fun to do together!!?? I'm thinking so! I'll call soon.

:rolleyes1Mommy's gonna buy me a pearly ring:rolleyes1 with my money though...

Hush little baby, don't you cry... :rolleyes1

Ooooh Pick-a-Pearl! We did this at DTD one year. It was so much fun. We got both of my grandmas a necklace and Fiance's mom a ring. I also bought a ring with my own money. I think they liked us there after buying all that!

I LOVE the pick a pearl! I've done it the past 3 trips. I have 2 braclets and a necklace. One of the reasons I love them so much is I wear them every day and they don't scream "disney" but I smile whenever I see them. Those are my favorite types of souvieners

I know we have pix of the latest pearl picking !!! But you will all have to wait till the appropriate time in our TRs !! With Winkers Christmas might be a good bet!!!:lmao:

You know what's weird - I've never seen the Pick A Pearl area. And I've been into the Japan pavillion several times. Is it hidden, or am I blind? There is just so much cool stuff to look at in there - I wonder what else I'm missing?

Hiya'll!!

Just a quickie post to say g'nite. I've had a houseguest all week, and tonight was the "how's your marriage"? inquest. I'm tired. And going to bed.

I'll respond tomorrow- so until then, have a great day, and I'll talk to you in the morning.

I do! In fact, I'm wearing it now. :goodvibes I lost it shortly after we got back from that trip, but eventually found it. I was so happy when I did. :cool1:

I originally wanted a pearl ring with the pearl in the center and an emerald on each side. My oldest is emerald, middle is the pearl, and youngest also emerald so it would have worked out so perfectly. :( Oh well. Maybe I'll pick up another one on my next visit and save it and see about having a ring made specially. :thumbsup2

I did the pick a pearl a few years ago. It was alot of fun. One woman waiting near my friend and I told us to pick the ugliest, fuzziest oyster shell. My friend listened and ended up with two huge, creamy white pearls. It's a great souvenier!

This station is calling for 0-14''

EDIT:: Well they changed the map! LOLOL

The shore is getting hammered with rain now and the hills are getting hammered with snow. For a state that is 70miles X 100 miles, we do get a huge range of weather.

Tell me about it! I was begining to think I was going to have to start building an ark we were getting so much rain. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that my flight takes off on time on Friday.

It's inside the store. :thumbsup2

That's what I figured, but I've been in there several times and never seen it :confused3 Of course, I wasn't really looking for it at the time, but that photo made it look like a pretty prominent area. I'll find it next time. I might want to pick meself a pearl!

UGH!

That's enough to make me want to go straight to bed!

Pick a Pearl Perk for some odd reason has had my mind thinking, every time I see the title

Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers;
A peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked;
If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers,
Where's the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?

and then I try to remember what the heck a peck is.

Pretty pearls are far more fun!

There is something so incredibly sweet about a pearl ring

:goodvibes

I hope you can swing the setting too but the pearl itself will be incredibly fun and special.

Baby?! Yeah I guess so. Are you saying that YOU'RE going to pay for it!? HOORAY!!! :lmao: you could call it an early grad. gift!

ummm...NO, that means that what you wrote reminds me of that lullaby. "Mama's gonna buy me a pearl ring..." (okay, in the song it's diamond, but that's ever MORE unlikely!):lmao:

You are so nice to think of your grandmas! I'm sure the LOVED them. I think just the picking one out will be a ton of fun, and I can always get it set later.

Boy, you must really love it! That's a lot of jewelry. But I think you get it! Something to remind my of my trip, yet not saying this is Disney.

I know we have pix of the latest pearl picking !!! But you will all have to wait till the appropriate time in our TRs !! With Winkers Christmas might be a good bet!!!:lmao:

OOOohhh, I can't wait for that!! HA! She's not that slow... is she??

budgets suck.

:lmao:

I so hear ya. I did up numbers again, and by cutting out 2 of the TS meals I had planned during my solo time, and a few of the drinks, and halfing my souvies budget, ditching the mug, and spending less on the flights, I"m still way over.:eek: I think it was definitely the extra nights at the POP that is doing me in. Ah well, it just mean I may have to finish this quilt afterall and get it SOLD!! It's very very lovely, so I don't think I'll have a problem getting some cash out of it. I hope.

I hadn't either, Rebecca. I think that if you aren't looking for it, or if you don't hear the hoopla it kinda goes unnoticed. I've been in that shop many times, and I guess it just blends in well. :confused3

That's cutting right to it there Cynthia. :rotfl2:

Yeah, pretty much.

That sounds a little like my wedding band. I wanted something a little out of the ordinary, and went with a single microspeck (that's all DH could afford) of a center diamond with a row of alternating diamonds and emeralds along the side of it. It turned out pretty, but it's so small. Ah well, like I said, I 'm not a big jewelry hound, and half the time it's being mucked in bread dough or garden dirt.

Glad you found yours!! I"ve lost some things, and they seem to be gone forever. :sad2:

I"ve heard that too. Maybe I can find one as ugly as my BIL?? :lmao:

I would keep the pearl souvie and ditch the rest if worse came to worse.

I hadn't thought of that. Hmmm... so many options. So little cash. :rotfl2:

I hope it's not too hard to find it; I"ve never seen it either-

This person who's been here since Sunday evening is from our home office in Holland. We work for a Dutch organization that does development projects in several countries, and he's here for a field visit of the work. I"ve posted this before, and here it is again, in case you're interested about what we do here-click on the country where we are for more info... but ONLY PM ME if you want to ask questions or comment. http://www.agrinas.org/

Of course, since we are alone out here as far as expats go, he wants to make sure "were doing ok". A lot of folks in our situation end up divorced or burned out, or whatever; we were happy to inform him that we're doing ok. It was rough going for a little bit there in the time leading up to our decisions (in fact, it's the only time I've really been remotely worried about our marriage), but we've got some great skills at not staying angry or hurt too long. All's good.

Where in the heck is everyone tonight??
