An almost-girly trip ~ February 2009 TR!

I looked into why the Canadiens got that nickname of "Habs". It is an abr. of "les habitants", an informal name given to the original settlers of New France. Since the Montreal Canadiens were established in 1909 and marketed as a french/canadian team, it fits. Who knew? Deffinitely not me, I'm not into hockey. Girly girl. :rotfl:
My boss got me tickets to the Sens (Ottawa Senators) last game but I didn't go because I was sick. It would have been my first game ever. I was disapointed but he said he will get tickets again.

I noticed the Dunkin Donuts, they are my absolute favorite. I wish we still had them around here. I always make a point to stop when I'm in the States. Yummy!

:thumbsup2 Your Dad is so cool to act out Twister. :thumbsup2

According to the Sabres schedule, our two teams play each other on the 26th (next Wednesday). Do you get to attend many games?

Thank you for looking that up! For a little while, back when I first started watching/going to hockey games, I thought that the Montreal Canadiens and the Habs were two different teams. I will have to pass that on to my dad and Mike and Charles, or just hope that they ask so I can say "OH I KNOW! LET ME TELL YOU!" :rotfl:

Hockey games are so much fun, I hope that you get to go to one eventually. Even if you are not wicked into it, it's fun just to hear some of the creative cheers that people come up with. ;)

I couldn't live without a Dunkin Donuts nearby. In and around Boston, they are EVERYWHERE -- they're pretty hard to avoid. I have a Starbucks near my house, too, but I go there rarely, and when I do, I only get frappucinos or whatever seasonal drinks they have. Starbucks is bad for my wallet; Dunkins is much nicer to it.

Yeah, my dad's fun. :thumbsup2 I hope to be a big kid like him when I am older and have kids of my own.

According to the Sabres schedule, our two teams play each other on the 26th (next Wednesday). Do you get to attend many games?

I don't attend too many -- maybe 2 or 3 a season. We can get balcony seats for fairly cheap, and we can save a few dollars more by avoiding ordering them online and just going to the box office to see if they have any available. I think that season tickets would be cool, and I'd definitely go to more, but I don't think I'd get to enough games to justify the cost of it. :(

I have not really posted on my own PTR much because I want to add pictures and lots of text, but school is getting a little nuts. Getting towards the end of the semester feels good, but sometimes, you have the teacher that realizes, "I haven't managed to squeeze in everything that I wanted to!," and basically re-writes the syllabus from that point on, throws you way off, and you end up with three different assignments, including a paper, due on the same day, rather than a couple of days apart. That's what happened in my history class. I adore the teacher, but she tries to squeeze so much into 75 minutes, and sometimes gets sidetracked and doesn't get to other topics that she wanted to cover. Oh well. I have like a month left in the semester. :woohoo:

AND I registered for classes for next semester! It took me about 90 minutes to meet with an adviser, get my classes, get my schedule printed out, and pay for the classes, but I'm all set! It's nice to be ahead.

With regards to our trip, I decided on yet another thing to add to my to-do list -- visit Basin in DTD, and get some tonga toast at the Poly. I am very excited to try tonga toast. My mom wants to try it as well, and even if no one else wants to head over to the Poly for breakfast with us, we will go, and we will have tonga toast, and we will have a blast.

Oh, and I realize that I wrote, next to Beaches and Cream, that I want to find out what the Kitchen Sink is all about. There is no way in heck that the four of us will order that, because we would probably not even finish a quarter of it. I just want to go there for ice cream and hope that someone else orders one, so I can see it for myself. If anything, I would order the No Way Jose. (Thank you, allears.net, for providing menus on your site!)

Before I go to bed, I will leave you with some pictures from our first full day in April. Right now, my Widget tells me that we have 83 days, 10 hours, and 24 minutes!

We were celebrating my birthday, six days later, and I wanted to hit MK first. And yes it was pretty crowded. It was a Saturday, during the late morning/early afternoon, over what was April vacation for many but we are not bothered by crowds.

l_f880a9b866098c11445ee127c1d49d76.jpg

...apparently, I didn't upload as many of the MK pictures to Facebook as I thought I did. Oh well. On to the nighttime! We went to Animal Kingdom, since we had a 9:40 reservation at Boma. Yeah it was a late dinner, but it was the only time open for that day, and I really wanted to have dinner there.

We rode Dinosaur. This is how I feel about that ride. (I really do love it)

n505059094_414020_8930.jpg

We also got to ride Expedition: Everest for the first time. I LOVED IT SO MUCH!

l_bb0b1e072bdb052a332a8a9eb9f1d7ed.jpg

We also got on one of the last safari rides. This guy was SUPER close to our truck. I don't think that my mom had to zoom in for this picture, really -- he was really, really close. Those horns made me a little nervous, but he was cute, in a strange way. :upsidedow

l_6cfcbddff02e02b8b909abe8a9c0f769.jpg

Then we made our way to Boma. Of course, my mom and Kailyn and I killed some time in the awesome gift shop. Then we waited in the little sitting area, and I amused myself by taking pictures of myself making faces and generally acting like a fool, because I was bored, hyper, and hungry.

Anyway, Boma was AMAZING. I could have filled up on the carrot-ginger soup alone. I am not fond of either by themselves, but they were a great combination. I really liked the flatbread and hummus, and I LOVED the prime rib. I went up many, many times for that.

This is how Mike and I felt after:

n505059094_414056_5770.jpg

My mother is not amused by the fact that I've posted like three pictures of her (hi Mommy!), so here's one of my dad after we ate.

n505059094_414904_8775.jpg

It is worth noting that, before I took this, I said, "look really full." I looked at the picture after I took it and went, "what is THAT face?"

Dad thought I said, "look really tipsy."

Either way, it's a great picture, eh?

It was pretty late by this point, so rather than deal with the busses, we just decided to take a cab back to Pop. None of us wanted to get stuck sitting up front with the driver, and naturally, my dad, Mike, and I all had the same idea at the same exact time, which was to run. We ran for the cab much faster than we would run under normal circumstances. And we all wrenched open the back doors and dove in as fast as we could without causing injuries.

My poor mother ended up being the one to sit up front with the driver. She was not terribly amused, but she can laugh about it now...I think. :lmao:

Have a good night, everyone!

Okay, I'm not an avid hockey fan but I think I would love to see a game. I believe you that I would have a good time.

The Sens played tonight....don't have a clue if they won :rotfl2:

Good girl, getting all your classes sorted out. :thumbsup2 I'm releived I am way past writting papers and having exams.

The Tonga Toast does sound yummy, and everyone seems to love it. I may just pop in and try it myself.

I want to try Boma, but I think I will go for breakfast. I'm not that adventurous to go to dinner. That pic of your Dad was too funny. :lmao: I caught you using "eh", was that your try at being Canadian or were you being funny. ;)

Depending on if my DS comes next year (still undecided) we will get the kitchen sink, if it's only us girls we will opt out and get something else. :) It does look huge.

We don't get season tickets...but we do try to get to a Sabres game at least once a year...this year we aren't going until April...

:thumbsup2 Good job on getting all the classes that you wanted! Our school just switched over to a web-bases system, and so far it has been :scared1:

I would like to try Boma someday, though I doubt it will be on our upcoming trip...I'm also not a big fan of really sweet stuff, so I'm not so sure about the Tonga Toast, but who knows?

Yup, you should go to a game at least once, just to experience it. ;)

I am SO GLAD to have my classes sorted out. I didn't want to wait, because I knew that the lines everywhere would just get a little longer each day, so I did not want to delay. I should be able to register online by now, but I didn't bother checking. Oh well, next semester.

:lmao: My dad's actually from Canada (New Brunswick), and for some reason I use it online sometimes. He and his family moved down here when my dad was 5, though, so he has lived here for much longer than he lived in Canada. I am really dying to try the Tonga toast; I remember MeMom saying something about it having a little too much mushy banana, but I'll probably do what she did and scrape some out. As for Boma, I would like to try it for breakfast, too.

I cannot see ever trying the Kitchen Sink, unless there's like ten of us. I am really hoping to get there and see someone order it. That's part of my reason for wanting to go there. ;)

Even if I get to just one game per season, I'm good. I love going, but I don't always make it a point to go. I usually just forget.

Thank you! I am sooo glad to have gotten the classes, and I'm really relieved that it's out of the way. I hope that they don't switch to a new system, they enough issues sorting out things as it is.

Even if you don't do Boma during your upcoming trip, you should do it some other trip. They have some exotic stuff, but also more "normal" stuff (hence why Kailyn was able to eat :rotfl: ) When is your next trip? Are you just kind of planning, or do you have dates set?

So, you have some Canadian in you eh? I guess you are free to use the "eh" if you want...:rotfl2:

I went on You Tube tonight and watched them make a kitchen sink, WOW! I had no idea all that was in there, I don't think the 4 of us could eat it. I take it back, we won't be ordering it.

I never even thought to look on YouTube for that, what a good idea. I have an idea of what's in it, but I really, really want to go and see people trying to eat it. I also want to go because, as far as I know, my dad and Kailyn have no idea what it is, and I would love to go there, have someone at another table order a Kitchen Sink, and see the looks on their faces.

Happy belated Thanksgiving to those that celebrated yesterday! I didn't get on here at all yesterday until pretty late, and then I was only one for a few minutes because I was so tired and just wanted to crawl into bed.

Before getting ready and baking stuff for Thanksgiving over Charles's, I got some Mickey head paint chips at Home Depot on Tuesday. I had decided that I wanted to make a countdown with them. (Also-I apologize for the size. I didn't realize that Photobucket made the pictures so much bigger than what I am used to posting.)

PB250001.jpg

PB250004.jpg

I was originally going to put them inside my bedroom door, but my mother wanted to be able to see them, too. So, I took down much of the stuff that's been on there for the past three years, moved the rest of the stuff up, and taped them to my door.

PB250006.jpg

I'm quite proud of it, actually. I only managed to grab enough to start the countdown at 66 days, so in eight more days, we'll be able to start taking those down. ;) I also grabbed two alien green Mickey heads, one for my mom and one for myself, but I need to grab more. I tried writing on them, since I am mildly OCD and like to have some things perfect. So, the next time I go shopping in that particular plaza, I will have to make a pit stop in Home Depot for more LGMH's.

Wednesday, I worked until 5 and them came home to make a pie and ginger snap cookies. I didn't double the recipe for the cookies, but I still ended up with a grand total of 104 cookies, to be split three ways.

PB260007.jpg

Everyone that tried them, loved them, I was SO glad.

I don't have any pictures from Thanksgiving yet, because they're all on my dad's camera, which I just retrieved from Charles's house. For some reason, I still can't quite figure out how to get the pictures from the camera on to my photo application. I've done it before, but I don't know how. I do plan on uploading them to Facebook, but I might just wait and see if Charles uploads the pictures first, and then I can steal them. For some reason, Facebook doesn't really like to upload my pictures on the first, second, third, and sometimes fourth tries. Very finicky.

I kind of wish I had taken pictures of the food, but taking out my dad's big camera and snapping away might have looked a little weird. I've been dating Charles for a little over 2.5 years but I don't know how his family would react to my practicing food porn pictures. :lmao: There was SO much food! Charles's mother made a huge bowl of stuffing, and his sister-in-law made some sweet potato casserole. I could have eaten that whole thing, I swear. It was topped with brown sugar and pecans. Oh boy, now I want more. :rotfl:

I do have a picture that Charles's mother took on her phone, and uploaded to Facebook.

Yup, a turkey in a tinfoil bikini. :rotfl2: I love her, she cracks me up.

I'm going out to go shopping with my dad soon. He told me that he doesn't really intend to buy anything, he just wants to go to battle over parking spots and fight the crowds. This is also the man that goes to the malls on Christmas eve in the hopes that he'll get on TV when they're interviewing the people who wait until that day or night to get gifts. So, here's hoping we won't run into any disgruntled bargain hunters during our adventures!

I had no idea you were such a baker, looks yummy. The foil bikini cracked me up, how cute is she. Your Dad is such a rebel. :rotfl: The Mickey heads are great, it's so much fun to take them down.

I don't get to bake a ton, but I really enjoy it. I like finding new recipes and testing them on my family. :rotfl:

My dad was mildly disappointed, because by the time that we got to Kohls, it wasn't super busy anymore, and that mall is pretty crappy anyway, so we ended up about 8 cars from the entrance with no problem. BUT we were thrilled because they extended the "early bird special" that started at 4 AM, until 3 PM, instead of noon. :woohoo: We ended up getting queen-size sheets for only $20, and my dad got several board games and toys to bring to a Toys for Tots drive, because the board games were only about $4 apiece. It was great. :teeth: How has work for you been up there? Are people treating you okay and not being TOO crazy?

Last night, I went bowling with Mike, Charles, Mike's girlfriend, and a couple of his friends. We do this many Saturdays and it's always a lot of fun. I'm pretty bad, but this time I only threw about a dozen gutter balls, and scored about a 58. Mike is really, really good at bowling and normally gets around 85 or more, but he also goes much more often than I do. :rolleyes1

n505059094_995321_6899.jpg

I kept on making faces or crossing my eyes every time Charles pointed the camera at me, and he finally asked me, nicely, to make a "normal" face.

n505059094_995322_7167.jpg

Then, he moved on to taking pictures of the two of us. (Disclaimer: I do not smile like that normally.)

n505059094_995323_7415.jpg

Then, Charles decided to smile and look cute, and I decided to...well, not.

n505059094_995324_7663.jpg

So Charles gave up.

n505059094_995325_7914.jpg

Michael danced

n505059094_995326_8177.jpg

And then decided to try a new way of bowling, since our time was up, anyway.

n505059094_995327_8431.jpg

It was a fun night. I love bowling nights. On Wednesday, Kailyn and I, and maybe Charles, are going to our city's yearly Jingle Bell Festival, where the lights on the city hall are "officially" turned on, and there are usually carols. Next Saturday is the annual Christmas tree hunt, which I will definitely be sharing pictures from. We go to a place up in New Hampshire (I think it's N.H.), where you can actually cut down your own tree!! It is soooo much fun and there are so many photo opportunities. OH OH! I am also going to see Trans-Siberian Orchestra next Thursday! If you aren't sure who they are, you might recognize this song...(just a warning: it has lots of flashes)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CCSeugClR8

Also, if you see any videos from the Spectacle of Dancing Lights, it's their music. Charles and I went to see them last year and it was fantastic. They were so energetic, and they did a meet-and-greet-after. My wonderful  boyfriend snuck out during the show at some point and bought me a program, which I had signed. They were so nice and so gracious to everyone, even after playing for about 2 hours without a break. Needless to say, this is becoming a Christmas tradition for us, and I am really, really excited!

I am also coming up on my last couple of weeks of the semester. Next week is my last week of classes, and the week after is finals. Crazy to think it is so close to being over and that I am so close to having a month off from school. And that Christmas is coming up so quickly, and, of course, Disney. 72 days!! :dance3:

Have a good night!

Your Thanksgiving looked fun! We were out shopping in the madness on Friday morning...we left our house at 2am! Target was crazy up here in Buffalo....

My DBF and I occasionally go bowling, and he always beats me by more then I would care to admit to. Have fun at the xmas celebration in your town...I miss ours again this year because of classes...

OMG, it's so funny you went bowling. A co worker of mine has been trying to get me out to Rock n' bowling. :lmao: I will go with her one day, just for fun, I'm sure I will throw many gutter balls too. :rotfl2: She also wants to go to Bingo ??? I will go if there's cocktails involved...:rotfl:
Looks like you had some fun, goofing around.

I'm working 6 days at this point and the customers have been okay. There's always a few cranky ones, crying babies and people coughing on you. (I just love how people think it's okay to leave dirty tissues in shopping carts, ) Can you imagine?

We went to our Christmas parade of Lights on Saturday night. All the "floats" are lit up, it's fun. DD wore her glow necklace and had a light spinner wand. Her favorite was the Grinch in jail. She laughed all night. I liked the fake Elvis singing his Xmas songs.

Wow, 2 AM! I want to get up really really early on Black Friday and go shopping, just so I can say that I did.

Saturday was probably the first time I've broken a 50. When I went bowling with my friend one time, we went to a place that didn't keep score electronically, and she finally decided that every gutter ball I threw would be a point. Even then I think I only beat her by a few points.

Kailyn and I actually missed the Christmas celebration. It was supposed to start at 4, so we got there at 4. An hour and a half later, it had gotten REALLY cold and they'd been saying for the past 30-45 minutes that "any minute now," some people from a local radio station that plays 24/7 Christmas music would be there to help the mayor turn on the lights. Kailyn also pointed out that the mayor would spend about 10 minutes talking, and she had homework to do, so we both decided to just leave. :sad2: I found out that there's stuff going on for then next couple of days, so I may try to go again.

I HATE it when people that leave little presents in shopping carts. In my store, we have carts that look like cars, and I can't tell you how many times I've had to take out wrappers, tissues, Dunkin Donuts bags (back when we had a Dunkin Donuts in the store), food, and then wipe it all down. Ewww.

Your Christmas parade sounds like fun! Like I said to Katie, Kailyn and I didn't really get to experience ours. :( I think it might go on through the weekend, though, so I might try to go again. We are getting our tree on Saturday, so I'll at least have pictures from that.

I think this is the funniest thing I've heard all day. :rotfl: Liking the PTR by the way. I'm wondering if I should do one too...:confused3

 Thank you! And I'm glad you like it--you should definitely do one. I'm glad that I decided to.

I just caught up on your PTR. It sounds like you have a great trip planned. I am still waiting to hear officially about the Pirate & Princess Parties! :rolleyes1

Just finished your report so far. You and your family seem sooo great:rotfl2: Lots of laughs all the time. You have to appreciate people who don't take things so seriously all the time:thumbsup2 We are also going in Feb. 11-19. Can't wait!!!!!:woohoo: Hockey fan here too! Go to Sabres games all the time. Lots of fun. Can't wait to hear more and count down the days:banana:

Thank you for reading! :goodvibes I'm still stalking the boards, allears.net, and the official Disney website for any official news on the Pirate and Princess Parties, too. I hope that they have one when you're there!

:thanks: and welcome! Thanks for the compliment about us :rotfl: We do have a lot of fun.

Wow, your dates are the same as ours, only you have an extra day--we're leaving there on the 18th. Where are you staying?

Awesome that you are a hockey fan as well--I love going to games. Thanks for reading!

I edited the second post to add an ADR! I asked my mom last night about attempting Le Cellier, but it was too late to call at the time. I reminded her a little earlier about calling, and she got one for Friday the 13th at 12:30. We ate there several years ago, and really enjoyed it, but I had been wavering about asking my mom to try to get a ressie, because it's kind of expensive. Though, as my mom pointed out, it's not much more expensive that the rest of Disney restaurants--plus lunch is a little cheaper. I was also debating about asking because my sister doesn't like meat. Again, my mother pointed out that Kailyn can and probably will fill up on soup, breadsticks, and a salad. Oh, and potatoes. She'd probably like the cream cheese mashed potatoes, because those are both Kailyn-approved foods. I know I'm looking forward to those. :cloud9:

Non-Disney related: My dad told me last night that, on Christmas eve, he wants to take the top off his Jeep, wear a Santa hat, and drive around blasting Christmas music and handing out candy canes. He asked me if I would want to go with him, and I said yes. He thinks that if we go through one of the big squares near us that we might get in the paper. :lmao: It will probably be absolutely freezing, but it would be a blast. I'm not sure if this will be before or after going to the mall in an attempt to get on the news.

After I agreed to this crazy idea with him, I asked him if he'd buy me something for my car, if he happened to see it--antlers and a red nose. I have seen people with these on their cars, and I think it is the cutest thing ever. I barely got the question out and he said "no. No way. I will NOT walk up to a register holding that." Oh well, I tried. I think it would be funny if I managed to find it and put it onto his Jeep. :rolleyes1

So...not much of an update, but tomorrow is our Christmas tree hunt, so I will definitely have pictures from that, probably tomorrow afternoon or night.

I don't know if you have a Christmas Tree Shops near you or not, but I saw the antler's and nose at one here last week....

Thanks so much--I do have one near me. I went there last night, and they were sold out, but I went again this morning, before we went out to get our Christmas tree, and found them. :teeth:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

We went on our Christmas tree hunt today, and it was awesome. The weather was perfect--cold, but not bitterly cold. We've been going to the same place for years, just because it's so much fun to cut down our own tree.

Michael got confused. He wasn't sure what the saw was for.

n505059094_1017575_3288.jpg

He ran into some other problems along the way, too.

Michael STILL wasn't sure what to cut down, and Kailyn was showing off...I mean...proving a point--she was trying to show me that it wasn't THAT hard to balance on a small tree stump.

(That's my mom's shoe in there :rotfl: )

Speaking of my mom, she was hiding. She's still not amused that I've posted a few pictures of her so here is a hidden Mommy (kind of like a hidden MeMom)

Kailyn wanted to be taller than me in a picture...

I take a picture of this sign year after year.

Not a very good picture of my car with the reindeer antlers and nose. It looks really cute in person!

I decided this year that I wanted a really small Christmas tree of my own, for my room. My dad also bought a couple extra boxes of lights, so he gave me two and I put them up in my room, around the windows.

I love my little tree and I love the lights in my room, it feels so festive. I had just enough lights to go around all my windows. Tonight (if I feel motivated, it IS after 8) or tomorrow, or sometime soon, I am going to make candy cane cookies that my mom used to make years ago, since she was nice enough to find the recipe for me again after many years. I can't wait to make them, I remember that I loved them. :cloud9:

Have a good night!
