An aerial look at Avatar and new behind the scenes details

Very cool looking and imagine at night with the special lighting we have seen tested, it should look even better.

BUT .......... when you spend the kind of money this has cost .... it better be SPECTACULAR!

Looking at pictures still having hard time wrapping my head around summer but we'll see.

There are Rocks Permits that go out to December 2018 so I imagine it will continue to evolve.

The expiration dates on permits don't have anything to do with completion dates. That date is just when a contractor has to be paid in full by.

If you compare these photos to that of Shanghai or carsland this is right on schedule. Shanghai looked nowhere near ready a month out yet it still opened.

Curious to know how many contractors are performing work on Avatar as well a DHS project. That may add to the urgency to complete work on time on time in Avatarland. The pictures do indicate that it's coming along nicely, but without knowing the rides status it's still mystery. The cranes coming down is a good sign.

If you check out the permits on the DHS construction thread all of the contractors are listed on those permits, they lost constractors for both Anaheim and Orlando.

That dates can often be used to get an idea of when a project will be complete, but in the case of Avatar, every permit has used the same December 2018 date so they aren't as useful in this case. I also feel they are on track for next summer. Even though there are areas that still need a lot of work, other area are complete down to the small thematic details.

The expiration dates are one year from the permit issue date unless otherwise requested. As far as I know it is arbitrary--- by requesting a later date, it will save the possibility of needing to file an extension for long running projects.--- It is required for the project to pass an inspection at minimum every 6 months to keep the permit in active status. this info is accurate in the counties I work in. Although the FL building code is "unified", the counties all seem to have their own interpretations.

Y'know, I was really... not against per se, but not a fan of Avatarland when I first heard of it. Now, I can hardly wait for it to open and to see it. The boat ride especially looks beautiful, and I think just walking through the land alone will be amazing.

I am curious, will there be any actual REAL animals in the land at all?

No real animals.

One thing that I find interesting/funny is that I think a lot of Disney fans would be more into the land if it was built as a non-IP related, but the same concept

Though, on the flip side, I have heard of a lot of people who are big Avatar fans but not currently Disney fans that are excited and will plan their first trip to WDW for this land (obviously they are not people who would normally post on this board)

I agree with that. For me, Animal Kingdom is about, well.... animals ;) (Which as I'm typing I now remember that I knew there wouldn't be animals, I just forgot. Brain fog. Anyways.) So, while I do love the design of it etc... I just didn't think it fit with the overall theme of AK, which is based on REAL lands and real animals, not fictitious ones (I know many argue DinoLand doesn't really fit either, and I agree with them, but at least dinosaurs were real at one point). I look at Avatarland as being similar (though on a grander scale) to the Frozen in Norway debate. Honestly, I would have preferred the new land be based off a real area, Australia for example, could have been really neat. In fact, it would be nice if they could eventually do all the continents.

But at any rate, all that said - as I see it coming together, more images of what it will be like etc... I admit I'm excited despite my initial disappointment.

The argument for it, has to do with the original plan for beastly kingdom, a section of park that allowed for beasts like dragons and other fictitious beings.
The message of Avatar is one about resource conservation, and working with the land. The movie is about a mega corporation trying to exploit the natural resources of a planet, to heck with it's indigenous peoples and customs...and how that group overcame it. So it that respect it really can fit in with Animal kingdoms message of conservation, that is why it fits.....and it also an IP, that embraces the night time hours, where the real animals don't really work for night time visits.

But remember that the original plans form DAK included the never-built Beastly Kingdom which was to include some ficticious animals.:)

Gotcha. I didn't know either of those.

I have to admit... my son would have LOVED Beastly Kingdom, lol.
