The expiration dates on permits don't have anything to do with completion dates. That date is just when a contractor has to be paid in full by.Very cool looking and imagine at night with the special lighting we have seen tested, it should look even better.
BUT .......... when you spend the kind of money this has cost .... it better be SPECTACULAR!
Looking at pictures still having hard time wrapping my head around summer but we'll see.
There are Rocks Permits that go out to December 2018 so I imagine it will continue to evolve.
If you check out the permits on the DHS construction thread all of the contractors are listed on those permits, they lost constractors for both Anaheim and Orlando.Curious to know how many contractors are performing work on Avatar as well a DHS project. That may add to the urgency to complete work on time on time in Avatarland. The pictures do indicate that it's coming along nicely, but without knowing the rides status it's still mystery. The cranes coming down is a good sign.

If you compare these photos to that of Shanghai or carsland this is right on schedule. Shanghai looked nowhere near ready a month out yet it still opened.
That dates can often be used to get an idea of when a project will be complete, but in the case of Avatar, every permit has used the same December 2018 date so they aren't as useful in this case. I also feel they are on track for next summer. Even though there are areas that still need a lot of work, other area are complete down to the small thematic details.
It seems unlikely--- they would have to be in costume....or have a dye job at least....
After dark will be one of the most amazing sights in all of WDW!I think just walking through the land alone will be amazing.
No real animals.Y'know, I was really... not against per se, but not a fan of Avatarland when I first heard of it. Now, I can hardly wait for it to open and to see it. The boat ride especially looks beautiful, and I think just walking through the land alone will be amazing.
I am curious, will there be any actual REAL animals in the land at all?

One thing that I find interesting/funny is that I think a lot of Disney fans would be more into the land if it was built as a non-IP related, but the same concept
But remember that the original plans form DAK included the never-built Beastly Kingdom which was to include some ficticious animals.I just didn't think it fit with the overall theme of AK, which is based on REAL lands and real animals, not fictitious ones
The argument for it, has to do with the original plan for beastly kingdom, a section of park that allowed for beasts like dragons and other fictitious beings.
The message of Avatar is one about resource conservation, and working with the land. The movie is about a mega corporation trying to exploit the natural resources of a planet, to heck with it's indigenous peoples and customs...and how that group overcame it. So it that respect it really can fit in with Animal kingdoms message of conservation, that is why it fits.....and it also an IP, that embraces the night time hours, where the real animals don't really work for night time visits.
I'd definitely see it beforehandlol. Gotcha. I've never seen the movie so I had no idea what might be possible. I suppose I'm going to have to break down and see the film before we go back, now. I have no interest in the movie whatsoever, I admit.
