Amy's New Start : Comments Welcome!

Okay, I cannot believe I have not been on here since Saturday! I am just so bad at Wishing lately and its not because I want to be. I am telling you, I NEED another computer in this house. Between school projects for both kids and allowing them to use it for some fun stuff too, one is not enough. But its going to have to be, we don't have the money for a second computer right now. I just need to get on here during the day when nobody else is at home.

So, I didn't Wii Fit because my husband didn't get it installed. I thought he was down doing that, turns out he was working on getting stuff into the crawl space in the basement. Which is important since that gives us a lot more room to work out down there. So that took him most of Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Now that that is done, he (or ds who is good at hooking up electronics) should be able to get to that this week and then I can try it out. In the meantime I have been either at the rec center or doing Walk Away the Pounds.

I didn't go to WW today, I realized later on that if I want to do aquasize, I can't do a Tuesday WW meeting. Its been so long since I have been making aquasize a priority, I forgot Tues/Thurs are the days that is offered at my rec center. So tomorrow will be my new weigh in day as long as I like the leader and feel its worthwhile. If not, my only other choice is Monday which is not that appealing to me although it might make me behave better on the weekends.

Food yesterday:
Breakfast (this is bad I know) 3 pillsbury Cinnamon rolls
Lunch: 1/2 peanut butter sandwich, apple
Dinner: Huge salad with cranberries, almonds, asiago cheese and balsamic vineagarette dressing, 1/2 cup hamburger helper

I did WATP yesterday and today did my 30 minutes of water walking followed by 60 minutes of aqualize. Its good to be back, but those tue/thur water workouts are time consuming. I'll be playing catchup all day. I need to get better organized and I need to get on my husband and kids to be better about keeping themselves organized and their spaces cleaned up. I'm not a maid!

Dd is going to church camp the last weekend in January. This is a big step for her to want to do this, she's very shy and kind of a homebody. I am excited for her! I sort of wish she would have decided sooner, out of the blue at the last possible moment she decided to go and now I have to find an extra $200 to make it happen but I am so proud of her for taking the plunge, I don't mind!

Amy: You could have knocked me over with a feather when I read that stuff this author wrote. I think she's a bit off kilter and I refuse to do any program where exercise is not considered a priority!

Tracy: You and me both, I was pretty shocked with what I read about her too! I love the internet and how it helps me to research the things I buy or do before I get started into it! Got your pm, thanks so much, I need to look that sufff over when I get a minute!

Lisa: Yeah, obey is what I did towards my parents, but I don't need to obey my husband, but rather respect him as he does me. Much nicer way to look at it in my opinion!

Barb: I am getting on that Wii Fit this weekend if it kills me! I want to try it out. I did at least get back to my water stuff and it feels so good!

Don't fret about WW, I know you will find a time and leader that is right for you. You are making exercise a priority, and you already know the drill at WW, so I think you are doing GREAT! :thumbsup2

I have several things that I have done in the past to make my kids clean up after themselves... I can share them if you'd like! I rarely have problems with them anymore, so they must work! ;)

I forgot to post this weeks' exercise goals (have it written down but not on here):

Monday: Take the day off from exercise to get house organized when everyone is GONE!

Tuesday: Water walking (30 minutes) aquasize (60 minutes) DONE!!

Wednesday: Walk for on hour

Thursday: Water walking and aqausize

Friday: Walk for 40 minutes, bike for 20 minutes

Weekend: Wii Fit (either sat or sun).

Amy: My kids are pretty good normally, but lately they have just gotten lazy! I know they have a ton of stuff going on but still. So give me your ideas!

Hi Amy, Great job with the exercise goals. I know you can do it! Somehow when we put it on the day's to do list, it makes it seem like more of a priority. Remember to put yourself first once in awhile-the housework can wait.

Have a great week!!!!

Great list Amy!:goodvibes Where are you going to walk? The Rec center? Walking track and lazy river. You have an awesome rec center.

I know what you mean about computers! Even with just DH and I there is no way we could share one. I have really learned to love my netbook; between that and my regular laptop I can't imagine going back to a desktop model.

Sounds like you're doing great between the rec center and WATP. Hopefully you'll get up on that Wii Fit by the weekend and have some fun with it.

Your exercise goals look good, Amy!:thumbsup2

No worries on WW...You'll find a meeting and a leader that is right for you. :goodvibes

I'm thinking about giving WW a try myself. My BIL's girlfriend is starting WW today and wants me to join as well. It's something I need to pray about.

Hope you have a great day!

Your exercise goals are quite doable! :cool1:

As for the kids... Start by picking up all their junk from around the house and throwing it on the pillow on their bed. I mean EVERYTHING - iPods, shoes, books, empty cups, wrappers, etc. Then make them clean their room. They won't like having that junk on their beds... You might have to do this 2-3 times over a couple weeks, depending on how messy they've gotten. Then let them know that the next time you have to pick up their things, it's not going on their bed, it's going in the trash. And then follow through and make sure they see it (and yes, I cringed when I had to throw out a perfectly good pair of sneakers, but I did it!). Let them know that if it's important enough for them to keep, it's important enough for them to pick up... Good luck!

My kids saw me throwing out their stuff and thought "Mom has lost it" but now they know I am serious!

Great exercise goals Amy :)
Time is my biggest problem - sometimes i feel like i have no spare time from exercise/work - although im basically snowed in at the moment but its driving me mad not being able to get out!! suppose its a case of we want what we cant have!!
dont worry if your not here often - sometimes life gets busy - you know we'll be here for you when you can get back :)

I may have to this with mine. Sounds like a great idea. :thumbsup2

Thanks ladies. I was so extremely depressed and ashamed by what the scale said yesterday I just couldn't bring myself to come on.:sad2: So here goes, as of yesterday, my all time highest weight at a Weight Watchers Center was 248.8. I once weighed more at a doctor's office, but at WW, I have never been above 246. Until now that is. I just cannot believe I packed on 7.4 pounds since my last weigh in. Oh well, nothing to do but move on and move down. Its hard for me to wrap my mind around that number. I see people on Biggest Loser who are so obese and they weigh about what I do and it just makes me amazed.

I have never set a goal at WW in all the years I have gone. Well yesterday I did. My goal weight is 145 pounds. I put that number down in my book, but I can't sit and think about how much I have to lose total to get there so for now I am taking it ten pounds at a time.

After WW, I went to Sams Club, stocked up on healthy foods, came home, purged all unhealthy stuff out of my cabinets, frig and freezer and got everything organized. Big job! Oh, I did walk for an hour between WW and Sams Club. It was snowy, foggy and so cold and it was so tempting to go home and eat my woes away but I stuck with it. I was glad I did. It improved my mood and gave me energy!

Today, I did my 30 minutes of water walking followed by 60 minutes of aquasize. They have two new instructors and the one on Tuesday I thought was intense until today. I have never worked so hard in a water class in my life. By the end of the class we had all nicknamed this gal Sgt. Jillian! She screams just like Jillian on Biggest Loser and that's just what I need! My arms are kiling me and I know tomorrow they'll feel worse. But pain can be a good thing!

I ate well yesterday, I didnt' figure points but have today so that's good. I"ll start posting the previous day's food from here on out:

Wednesday's food:
Breakfast: Slim Fast
Snack: WW almond bar
Lunch: Turkey sandwich on lite bread, 1 oz. of almonds, 2 mini tangerines
6 Triscuit crackers with 1 oz of parmesan cheese
Dinner: 1 serving meatloaf made with 96% lean ground beef, 3 oz. of cooked red potato drizzled with 1 teaspoon olive oil, 3 cups salad greeens with balsamic vinegarette.

I read in Prevention almonds and olive oil can cut your Alzheimers risk by 60something percent. Since my mom and grandfather had it, I need all the help I can get in that area. I am going to have to be very discplined with those almonds. Me and nuts have a history of over indulgence, however I really want to be able to eat almonds as part of a healthy diet and I am determined to not overeat them which will result in me not being able to have them around.

Lisa: Colorado is one of the healthiest states in the country. We have so many nice rec centers, parks and hiking trails. I love my rec center, its a diverse crowd of members, its reasonable, pretty new and so well maintained. I can walk indoors and see parts of the mountains through the windows so that's nice.

Tracy: Give WW a try. In spite of my road of little success, its a wonderful plan. Even if you only go for a month or two, you'll learn so much. And its very reasonable compared to other programs.

Amy: I like your idea! I told the kids my new plan and that the stuff will only be put on a pillow once. After that, its in the landfill or at Good Will. Dd is as we speak double checking her floor for any items she doesn't want to part with!

Barb: I would love a notebook, maybe Santa will bring me one next year! I seriously don't know how much longer we can survive with one computer.

Tracey: So many days I think "if I just had one more hour"! Me and everybody else on the planet.;)

Denise, so far my exercise to do list is working. I think you are right, when its on the list, its more likely to get done!

Hi Amy - im glad your feeling more positive & motivated today - if those guys on BL can do it i know you can.
There is a programm on tv at the moment that is putting foods into 100 calorie bags - maybe you could do that with the almonds??
its shocking to see how much pasta & rice there is in a 100 cal bag!!!

 Amy,

Please don't get discouraged by the number on the scale. You are on the right track to weight loss! ::yes:: You are going to WW, you're exercising, and you've got healthy food to see you through. You CAN do this and your WISH sisters are cheering you on to VICTORY!!:cheer2:

I still haven't received the books from Amazon yet. I've heard good things about them so we'll see when I get them.

I hope you have a great Friday!

Congrats on:
  • Getting to WW
  • Not letting the number on the scale destroy your motivation
  • Stocking up on healthy foods
  • Getting rid of junky foods
  • Working out!

I know you are going to do great. And even though you are going to be sore, don't skip a workout because of it. Sometimes working out again actually helps you stretch everything out and you will feel better (even if you want to die the first couple minutes!).

I like Tracey's idea about putting the almonds into little single serving bags. At Trader Joe's they sold them like that, that was my only savior, since I can mow through about 1000+ calories worth of nuts in one sitting... :rolleyes1

YOU WILL DO GREAT THIS YEAR! :cheer2:

Thanks ladies. Today has been a good day with food thus far. I am having dinner out with a friend tonight, our daughter's both have a meeting at church and so we decided to do something near there. Luckily there is a Tokyo Joe's and that is a very healthy place to eat. I am trying to plan my meals (all of them) out in advance to have a firm game plan. When I do that, guess what' I am successful! So why don't I always do that?:confused3

I was very sore today but it got better. I didn't work out, I was a bit off kilter all day. Monday is the two year anniversary of my mom's death. I have found myself all week reliving that last week when she was on hospice and I was with her for a solid 8 days. I can still remember that even though she was so close to the end, so out of it, how happy she was I was there. I'd curl up in her old wing chair by her bed and watch her sleep all night and knew it was such a special time to be there with her. In any case, today I think a lot of those feelings just caught up with me. So I had my good cries, got some stuff done and talked to my brother for awhile (he's feeling much the same way). I feel much better now and am glad I took the day off. Tomorrow is the gym or Wii.

I said I would post the previous day's food, but honestly I am not sure I will. I am writing it down in my WW journal, and I don't feel like posting it too! But yesterday was really good. I got all my bases covered, dairy, water, lean protein, 4 veggies, one fruit and two healthy oils. Perfect day. But I did come in 3 points under. I have yet to use one single flex point and with my 90 minutes of activity it said I earned something like 8 activity points. I am not sure that is right though. In any case, I need to make sure I get my points in since that always backfires if I don't.

I am having friends over tomorrow night. Normally we do more of a potluck thing, but I said "oh let me do the whole thing". This way I can control the menu! I am doing a veggie tray, feta cheese dip (which I HATE so I won't eat ) lean chili and fat free brownies. I am going to allow myself three Coors Lights and enjoy the evening. And I should be able to stay right on target!

Amy: I did take the day off from exercise but its good to know its good to work out even when you are sore. I have a feeling this class will keep me sore for a few more weeks at least! Thanks for pointing out the postives of yesterday, when I look at like that, I feel better!

Tracey: I did put some of the almonds in baggies per your wise advice! That way I have them ready to go, they are perfect for a quick snack to take in the car when I have stuff to do. So far, I have been a very good girl with those almonds!

Tracy: I am really anxious to see what you think about those books. I am on a bit of a no buy, but I may have to make an exception! Thanks for your encouragement, that number freaked me out but maybe its the last time I will see that on the scale!

Those are some smart food strategies (eating out healthy and controlling the whole potluck!).

Grief is a funny thing...it can hang on a long, long time and those feels can pop back out at you, especially on an anniversary. It's good that they are coming out. Tears can be very healing.

Sending a gentle  your way.

Great job having a food plan in place! :thumbsup2 I hope you have a good time with your friends tonight!:goodvibes

I'm glad you got to share your feelings with your brother, who is dealing with the same thing. I bet it helps you both so much.

That is a really good idea having control of the whole menu tonight! If your friends are like mine, they will bring something anyway... :confused3 But I know you can stick to your plan and behave even while "splurging"! :wizard:

And don't feel obligated to post your food, you are keeping track of it and that is what counts. :cheer2: I know you will soon get into the habit of planning all your meals in advance. It has the added benefit of saving time and money - only a weekly trip to the grocery store and you only buy what's on your list. :thumbsup2
