Monday, April 26th

Amy & I woke up to a beautifully sunny and warm day. After a quick breakfast at the food court, we were off to the Magic Kingdom. We arrived just as the opening ceremony was finishing up. The characters and dancers invited us in to enjoy a magical day at the Magic Kingdom. By the time we had wandered into Town Square, Scoop was standing off to the side and talking to some folks in front of City Hall. Amy has liked Scoop since she was a young girl and was very excited to finally have a chance to meet him. He spoke with us for a few minutes and posed with us for some photos. As we were getting ready to walk away Scoop took one of his pins off his hat and handed it to Amy. She still hasn't taken the pin off her own hat! We strolled down Main Street and headed to Fantasyland. We rode Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh, Cindy's Carousel and enjoyed Mickey's Philharmagic. We strolled into Tomorrowland and grabbed fastpasses for Space Mountain. We decided to ride it stand-by while we waited for our fastpass time. This is one of our favorite tricks. We grab a fastpass and then wait in the stand-by line...enjoy the ride once and then enjoy it again when our fastpass time rolls around. Next, we found a seat in front of the castle and enjoyed Cinderella's Surprise Celebration. We have seen this show so many times I know the words and even some of the gestures! Amy thinks they should hire me. :p After the show, we visited the Haunted Mansion. This is Amy's favorite ride. On our last trip she found a hidden Mickey in the attic scene and she has been obsessed with showing me her new find. I actually found what she was refering to. As you exit the attic scene on the way to the graveyard there is a bunch of tin cups hung on a nail on the left hand side of the doom buggy. Two small ones on top and a larger one lower....sure looked like a hidden Mickey to me. We grabbed some lunch at Columbia Harbor House. We split the fish and chicken basket. Yummy! Next, we decided to head to Frontierland and see how long the waits were for the mountains. The wait for Splash was about 35 mintues and the wait for BTMRR was about 30 minutes. We grabbed fastpasses for BTMRR and decided to ride Splash stand-by. This was our first mistake! The second mistake was not grabbing some bottled water before we got in line. 45 minutes had passed before we even made it to the stairway! When we finally got to that area of the line a cast member came out and announced that the ride had been shut down for 8 mintues, but was now running again! Why couldn't they have announced that the ride was down while it was actually not running? We were up the stairway at this point and decided just to wait it out. That was our third mistake! Halfway down the cave they make an announcement that they are sorry for the wait, but now they are having loading difficulties. Amy is not a very patient person and up to this point she was doing pretty good. I also forgot to mention that it is extremely warm today and this was during the hottest time of the day. We both are frustrated at this point. By the time we are loaded onto the ride, we ended up waiting 90 plus minutes. I realize that we are spoiled because we have never waited in a line this long; we have never come during busy season and of course, I realize that technical problems happen. After the ride we went to ride BTMRR and realized that our fastpass time had come and gone during our wait for Splash. We are both hot and frustrated so we decided to head back to the resort and relax for a while. This wasn't exactly the day at the Magic Kingdom I was expecting, but as I later told Amy I would rather have a frustrating day at WDW than an average day at home. :earsgirl:
We changed into our swimsuits and spent a couple of hours by the pool soaking in the sun! We decided instead of heading to MK for Wishes like we had planned, we would go to Downtown Disney for the evening. We just weren't up for the crowds at MK. We arrived at Downtown Disney and enjoyed a little dinner at the Wolfgang Puck Cafe on the West Side. The food was yummy, but Amy complained about the price. Sometimes you have to pay the big bucks for the good food! I enjoyed a tuna melt sandwich and Amy had some type of chicken salad that looked yummy. We explored some of the shops on the West Side and headed towards Marketplace. We did a little shopping in the World of Disney. I found some really cute Pooh bear pajamas and a couple of things for friends and family. There goes the budget.
We arrived back to the resort after 10:00 p.m. Where does the time go?
