Amount for Maid Service Tips?

August will be my first time staying at a Disney resort as an adult (with DH and our 2 kids). We are staying at POP Century for 7 nights.
- How much should we budget for tipping maid service?
- Should we leave money daily or just once at the end of our stay?

Disney doesn't consider housekeeping a "tipped" position. Certainly tip if you leave a big mess. Certainly tip if you get special service. Really no reason to budget anything to tip housekeeping.

We are a family of 4 and leave $5 per day of MouseKeeping. I went with $5 because it was easier to get $50 worth of 5's rather than 40 one dollar bills for a 10 day vacation. My DD has fun designing the envelopes for each day.
We had a beautiful thank you note left by one of our maids one day, telling us how much that $ meant to her that particular day... That made every dollar worth it.

Do what you and you family feel comfortable with when it comes to tipping.

I'm comfortable tipping within tipping guidelines for normal service. That means 15-20% to the waiter. A couple of dollars to a valet. $1-$2 per bag if I use a bellhop. Means not budgeting anything for housekeeping.

Thanks! I was thinking around $5/day and it sounds like the MouseKeeper was very happy with that! I like to tip because hopefully it pays the happiness forward! (And $35 is a drop in the bucket compared to the total cost of the trip!) But it's also nice to know that there is no pressure to tip! Thanks for both of your responses!

Its a personal choice no right or wrong ... as for us we tip at least $5 a day when its just the 2 of us, a $1 more /person/day when theres more of us. I make my own cutesy little envelopes and I know there is a post that has templets for envelopes. I also pick up before we leave for the day....I hate leaving a mess for someone else to clean up ... but thats just me


While its not expected Im sure it is appreciated.....

We have always left the envelope right in front of the T.V. in plain sight. Yes we bring our own envelopes. I just use regular ones that my daughter has printed designs on from our printer at home. She love to give them themes based on which resort we are staying at each year.

I leave mine on the pillow - either in an envelope, or if I do not have one, 'wrapped' in a piece of notepaper with 'Thank you' on it. Some hotels do not allow housekeepers to remove money from nightstands, counters, etc. - different rules vary in different places.

This trip we will have 'mousekeeping envelopes' - already done up. Otherwise, most rooms have 'notepads' in it so I wrap it in a sheet of that with the Thank you on it.

I always tip DAILY as you do not know who will have your room on the day you check-out. It may be a totally different person than actually workd the preceding 3 or 4 days. I have noticed in Vegas & even a local casino hotel we go to that they have the person's name on the envelope already - that way the person that actually cleaned the room that day is receiving it. And I assume those people work pretty well together - after all they don't want someone taking their tips, so I'm sure they all work pretty honestly together.

When I am traveling alone I normally leave $3 (which is really probably way more than I need to as I do not leave a mess at all). When I go in May there will be 3 of us, but I just plan on $5. We always pick up towels behind overselves, make sure all garbage is picked up, etc. So it's just something I do to feel good.

Don't feel obligated - do it because you WANT to, not because you have to.

As a family of 5 we usually tip $6 per day and yes we tip every day.

we tipped each day and left them in pre-made envelopes on the pillow. we tipped $ 1 per person, so $ 3.00 per day.

I tip $5/day for DD11 and myself. She makes up the envelopes and has been doing so since she was 6. It's an 'extra' thing we do and sometimes the Mousekeepers write her a little note of thanks back. We tip every day except on departure day. We usually request turndown service so we usually put $2 in an envelope clearly marked next to the beds.

Remember, tipping Mousekeeping isn't 'required' so if you're not comfortable with doing it, you don't have to.

I always tip housekeeping, I would never stay in a hotel and not leave money. Typically I do $5 a day. Speaking of tipping...I always tip 20% for good service in a restaurant.

We just got back from Pop from a stay this week. We left $5 each day, and just slipped it into the little foldover card that has the housekeeper's name listed on it. Every day the housekeepers did cute decorations with my daughters' things - arranged their stuffed animals on the beds, decorated the window with their princess dresses, left towel animals, etc., so my daughters loved getting to leave the tip out for them! Every day when we got home from the parks my daughters RAN to the room to see what the housekeepers had done that day.

We tip five dollars a day. The amount is more a convience than a calculation. When I was younger, I was told it was customary to leave the tip under the pillow. So I typically leave it under the pillow, but sort of half sticking out.

Same, I've never even heard of anyone tipping for housekeeping. It's a nice thing to do if you want, cleaning isn't easy...but I'm definitely in the no-tip category.

I tip $5.00 per day per room (parents in one, teenagers in the other). I put the money either in the Mousekeeper name card that is left in the room or in the paper that is in the night stand.

I include little notes usually like please leave an extra shampoo today, or we need extra towels etc..

Our mousekeepers are always very good to us. Could be that I always organize and clean prior to them coming in. I have to keep the rooms organized or I get the "what ifs" all day in the park.

3-5 per day on the desk with a note that says Thanks Housekeeping! I usually always tip at any hotel as long as the service is good.

$3 to $5 left under the housekeepers name card...ours was always left on the vanity at WL.
