there is a lady named tamar myers who writes a series of very funny, amish mystery novels. the main character is a female, amish innkeeper with a very warped sense of humor. love them, but i'll read pretty much any mystery.

I recently read one of these; the book was recommended by someone and I had no idea what it was. I ordered it on my kindle (no cover to see) and just ordered it without reading what it was.

I thought it was on the same reading level as Little House on the Prairie, a book I read when I was 8. LOL.

Buttons are considered ostentatious so they don't tend to have more than a couple. You're looking at lots of hook an eye closures and lots of pins:

Well - it's not like that have TV, video games or the internet for entertainment. Think of what all the rest of us get up to every time there's a power outage. That's probably the Amish, 24/7.

I immediately thought of this video when I saw this thread too! How an Amish woman can go about her daily work without stabbing herself with a straight pin is a mystery to me. The pins must also act as a big deterent to cuddling or hugging for courting couples.

Waiting for C. Ann's input here. She knows a lot about the Amish.
