IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES DID NOT
PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE
OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOCK ON THEIR STOCKPILES.

AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF
OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL
COMPANIES.

THEREFORE MAY 19TH HAS BEEN FORMALLY DELCARED "STICK IT TO THEM" DAY
AND
THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE THAT
DAY.

THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY

PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT.

WAITING ON THIS ADMINISTRATION TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS NOT

GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND C ONTROL IN PRICES

THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?

REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP BUT AT
THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING
COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR P[RICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON
EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING
MATERIALS, MEDICAL SUPPLIES ECT. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO

WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY,

WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN. SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD.
FORWARD THIS EMIAL TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE
MAY 19TH A DAY THAT THE CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES SAY "ENOUGH IS
ENOUGH.

Does anyone really think this is effective?? All this does it put off the purchase by one day or push it forward one day.

I promise not to get gas on May 19th.

2003 INTERNATIONAL GASOLINE PRICES
Location / Price Per Gallon
Hong Kong $5.34
London, England $4.55
Paris, France $4.41
Amsterdam, Netherlands $4.38
Seoul, S. Korea $4.35
Copenhagen, Denmark $4.24
Tokyo, Japan $4.20
Milan, Italy $4.14
Oslo, Norway $4.13
Frankfurt, Germany $4.00

This was at a time when gasoline in the US was selling for an average price of $1.50 per gallon.

Although I don't like paying $2 or more a gallon, I am at least thankful that I'm not paying twice as much like a lot of Europeans have been paying for quite some time.

Thanks for the link to snopes Alan.

Thanks for the snopes link Alan. I kind of suspected as much.

comparing international gas prices doesn't really make sense because most of what makes european gas so expensive are taxes that they have to pay that fund their social programs that we don't have here.

I agree. I refuse to be thankful that I'm only paying nearly $2 a gallon for gas.

It's funny, I just received the same email re boycotting gas on May 19 so it shows that it's not only going through the USA but Canada (at least Ontario) as well.

Thanks for the snopes link, Alan, it just confirmed my thoughts too about just shifting the purchase date.

Indyman, too funny! I had a good laugh when I saw your post!

Our gas prices have really gone up in the last week or so too, so this is a big concern here as well. It's hard to know what to do about it, we just seem to be at the mercy of the oil companies.

I think that a lot of people would be surprised to find out just how much of that $2 a gallon is tax.

This is illogical--don't you think that "hurting" the profits of big oil companies would only cause them to raise the prices--to make up for the difference.

Does anyone know who came up with the idea? I haven't read the Snopes article yet, maybe it's in there.

Not to mention you are comparing apples to oranges...our states are as large as their countries. Most of us drive on average 20-30 miles one way for work...nor to do we have an effective public transportation system. I'm not saying we shouldn't look for alternatives but if I only had to drive 5 miles to work or could take a train/bus...i wouldn't gripe so much...I would have other options!
