They’re open here too. The only day I’d say most places are closed is Christmas Day. Christmas Eve has most places closing early. More and more fast food places are staying open, but most everything is shut down.

Buzz, come on. Do you seriously think we don’t have celebrations? I’m starting to think you believe we all live in igloos.

No, I knew you celebrated things but I’ve been told we Americans celebrate things in a bigger fashion than Canadians. Living in an igloo would be cool and environmentally friendly though (Canada pun intended ).

Yes. That is what "basic cable" is in Canada. Now additionally, we have specialty channels and many streaming services which are higher "tiers" of cable. And in case you're interested, there are actually 4 national networks in Canada - CBC, CTV, Global and CityTV.

CityTV isn't really a national network. It has no presence east of Ontario.

My family actually was here in America during the Revolution. I am a history nerd. It helps with my family history. Do you have any recommendations for learning about Canadian 18th century history? If you actually have an interest in American 18th century, I have some recommendations that’s actually well written with pretty much no bias. The cartoon is actually very good and is used in US classrooms. The whole series is free on YouTube. Here’s a fun fact, Canadians (well colonialists who lived in Canada) actually fought with and against the Continental Army during the Revolution.

I have no recommendations because, right or wrong, I find history 100% boring. If you want cool Canadian history, check out SCTV, the original Degrassi High, and Kids In The Hall

Thanks. They look very interesting. Laura Secord looks like an interesting episode to check out among others. She isn’t exactly well liked here in the USA. All the 17th/18th history programs look worth a look.

Every Canadian city with major league teams would lay claim to the title best fan base.. but I’ll just leave this here.. the last time the Toronto Maple Leafs won a Stanley Cup was in 1967, 55 years ago, yet every home game over those 55 years is completely sold out and seasons tickets are not easy to come by.

The Jays, Raptors, Rock, & TFC all play to packed houses as well… Toronto loves their sports teams.

I would definitely nominate Calgary for contention. The hockey situation is similar, our CFL team carries the hopes of us all every year and countless numbers of us consider the Raptors and the Blue Jays to be "our teams". There's not a Raps fan in Toronto that loves them any more passionately than we do here in my household.

Yup every Fall when the Leafs win their first exhibition game the fans start planning the Stanley Cup parade.

I would definitely nominate Calgary for contention. The hockey situation is similar, our NFL team carries the hopes of us all every year and countless numbers of us consider the Raptors and the Blue Jays to be "our teams". There’s a wait list in the thousands for season tickets. It can also be pretty intense. We’re a small market, with a long winter, so players and the coach are under scrutiny every single day. They’re also treated like rockstars when they’re in public.

I do think that any Canadian NHL city is going to have a stronger fan base than any American fan base. That’s just the way it is.

And, have you ever been part of or heard of a whiteout? We (Winnipeg) invented it. It’s such a rush to be part of it. Teams no longer wear white at home, but it’s such a part of our playoff story, that we stuck with it.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers (CFL team) has a pretty rabid fan base as well.

I think it’s already been seen by previous posters, that every city is going to say they have the best fans. I think I proved we are definitely right in there too.

I can only speak for myself, but yes, we show support to National teams as well. We’re pretty proud to be Canadian and I feel like we have an image to uphold.
