Like David Cook.

If I actually THOUGHT Adam had 'so much talent' maybe I could resent him. But since I don't..... :scratchin

And I disagree about Melinda.

I actually see Adam and David Cook acting pretty much exactly the same.

I think everyone "defending" him seems a bit extreme.

Since this is a "discussion" board, you are supposed to be able to discuss things, not just throw out your opinions and not have anyone respond. If you say something, someone else is supposed to comment and give their opinions. That is how discussion works. I don't think anyone's defence here is extreme...it is the way a discussion board is supposed to work. It would be pretty darn boring if nobody ever commented on anything that anyone else said. There are generally two points of view to everything. Neither of which is absolute.

I agree completely. David Cook (who I love, BTW) had humility but no shortage of confidence. Confidence makes a good performer. Lack of confidence can, and has, sent many a contestant home before their time. In response to the poster that said Adam never seems to be touched by the judges comments, I wholeheartedly disagree. He has taken all criticism stoically, never applauded himself even when the judges did, and yes, I have even seen his eyes tear up a time or two. Is it an act? Maybe. Maybe every contestant you see up there is putting on an act. Isn't that what being a performer is? :confused3

And, BTW no Adam-hater hating going on here! Everyone is entitled to their opinion. That's why we are here on a Discussion Board! ;)

and for the majority of us on his thread we respect each others opinion, likes, dislikes and we manage to keep this thread civil and friendly. It is, after all, just a TV show and at the end of the day really has no impact on our real life. It is fun while it lasts and we all enjoy posting here during the shows and also in between shows.

I'm hearing rumours of a Disney theme. Perhaps it is just because Miley taped a performance but who knows.

That would be so fun! Normally I'd wonder what a theme like that would have to do with anything, but it would be a perfect tie-in to the attraction :thumbsup2

I've been wondering about that. American Idol is at WDW now, did Disney buy into Fox? Then yes, I think a Disney song week is a good possibility. Can you just see Miley mentoring the Idols? Maybe she would bring Daddy along.

Here's something that struck me about Adam. Pretty sure it was the week that he and Allison made the top 13. There were a couple of pictures of him talking to Allison at the end. He was completely focused on her, but had Alexis on one side, hugging his arm and beaming up at him, Danny on the other doing something similar, and a couple of the other guys in back of him. All looking at him like they adored him, like he's their rock star. Which makes me think they do, since none of them seemed to be aware of the cameras. He seems to be a genuinely nice guy. YMMV

Is it wrong that the thing I most look forward to every week is seeing what Adam will sing/wear etc? I'm a Glambert apparently. I will buy his album. Already downloaded Ring of Fire, studio version. I should mention that I'm becoming an empty nester, and yes, I need a life.

If it will be a Disney theme it's next week, that's when the performance of Miley will air. There is a rumor floating around it's either going to be either Disney or movie theme judging from Megan's song choice. Which if that theme is true I can see that week being the week we get Jennifer Hudson's performance.

What did Simon say??

Well, I agree...we are all allowed to say what we want about the show/contestants. I just didn't appreciate someone essentially calling me rude because I said negative things about Adam. I don't really go to the community board (i stick to the Disneyland board) and maybe I'm just not used to the types of people over here.

That would be horrible.
And cheesy.

So who is performing this week? I know Pickler (yuck) but who else?

(See the part I bolded)

Yeah, I don't notice that stuff because he just bugs me so much that I try not to pay too much attention to him. He's so fake. I guess I'd call him a "poser."

I guess what bothers me about this comment is that the only way we "know" anything about the performers is what we see on stage and what we see in the behind the scene interviews. If you could actually point to one interview where Adam is being a "poser", I'd like to have a link to it. I know for myself (having been on a reality show), it would be very hurtful to be called Fake or Poser when I was being totally myself. The people who saw me on TV don't know me and would have no basis to form an opinion like that. In other words, unless you've spent time with me you don't know whether I'm being fake or not.

And where are you getting that he is so helpful? They once mentioned Kris helping some of them on MJ week but I have heard nothing about Adam in that regard.

Every week the American Idol website posts behind the scenes videos of the contestants in the house and it was mentioned that Adam helps out the singers who are overwhelmed by the brutal schedule they have to keep because he's used to schedules like this from working in the theater. BTW, he also said in an interview, that right now on American Idol he's finally getting to do the music he wants to do. He did theater because he had to pay the bills, but it's not where his heart is. He admires David Bowie and sees himself as that kind of performer.

Melinda Doolittle?? Her little "Who me?" act was the farthest thing from humble.
obvious.
In complete agreement with this. I started to dread that little "who me?" act every time the judges praised her. I mean by this 6th week you can stop acting surprised by it.

Talent??? I'm sure he has plenty of talent as a stage actor. But as a singer?? HAHAHA! I have to disagree. I can screech exactly like he does. It's not difficult.

And I just don't understand why people are getting so upset about others not liking their faves.

The critics always compared Steve Tyler's singing to a "screaming banshee", and it never hurt his career. If you think you can match his tone and phrasing, why not record yourself singing a song like Black and White or Tracks of my Tears, and then play it side-by-side with his recording. It probably won't sound "exactly like he does" and if it does then perhaps you should get into the music business as well.

It's natural that people have different tastes in music and entertainment. That's a good thing because otherwise a lot of entertainers would be out of work. For example, I couldn't abide Fantasia, but obviously a lot of people must have liked her.

I don't get upset about comments here because I see it as a friendly type of debate. :) :)

Until this year I would have said not a chance on a Disney theme. Simon would hate it and that alone would keep it from happening. But now with the Idol Experience tie in, you never know. I still think they would go much broader than that. Sountracks or something.

I find it interesting that not only do we all have our own taste in music (to be expected) but two or more of us can view the exact same exchanges and reactions and view them entirelly differently such as Melinda's reaction to weekly praise (I got tired of the "who me?" thing quickly) or just how smug Adam may or may not be. I've yet to see anything I view as smug. But something about Danny bugs me. And I personally think he is waaaay overpraised pretty much weekly by the judges.

That is funny and I think it is all in who you like. If you like someone you are going to see them only in a favorable light, if you don't like them then what others see as confident comes off as cocky. I like Danny so I think he would be a hoot to hang out with and don't think he gets over praised at all. Now Adam, while I don't think he is cocky I do think he is playing the game...and that is because he is in this to win. With his background he has an advantage because he knows what he needs to do to be noticed, he's gone through auditions and knows that side of the business. He an be as friendly as he wants behind the scenes but I don't think for one minute he is going to help someone if he thinks they have a chance at beating him..and he shouldn't either!

I don't know Adam personally. I am calling it like I see it on the show. I cannot point out ONE performance when he's a poser. I just think his entire persona seems so contrived and fake. That is just MY opinion. What I think of him makes no difference to him personally. It's not like I'm going up to his face and telling him he's a poser. Give me a break. If you go on a reality show...you pretty much have to expect to be judged.

What reality show were you on? I am a reality t.v. addict.

I haven't seen videos of them at the house. Can you link me to those? The only behind the scenes ones I've seen are in the red holding room.

I'm not a fan of Steven Tyler's voice when he screeches either.

I think Adam would do well in a Bowie/Ziggy Stardust kind of thing. Have you ever seen the movie "Velvet Goldmine?" I could see Adam singing those types of songs.

I will not be recording myself singing. If I wanted to be judged, I'd go on a reality show. And that's not my thing. I don't need nor want 15 minutes of fame.

There's no other performer on next week as far as I've found, at least that's been announced.

Also country fans, ACMs are tonight. Carrie's up for some awards and performing twice.

Exactly. David Cook has tons of talent as a singer/rock star and I definitely don't resent him. I just don't think Adam has much talent as a singer. A comedian, maybe? lol.

Oh good. It sounds like we would get along well.

I never thought I'd miss season 7 so much.

And I just don't understand why people are getting so upset about others not liking their faves.

I don't care who likes or dislikes my fave at all. I voice my dislikes VERY loud, myself!

Methinks he protests too much should apply with some, though.:rolleyes1

I don't mind a fun critique or a honest opinion, heck that's the purpose of the thread. But it's starting to take a very immature VFTW turn, and that's what the turn off is for me.

See you guys Tuesday!!

...yeah, that maroon gown she wore while singing - I saw that same gown in Macy*s window....too bad it was on a curtain rod at the time.....

Big congrats to Carrie Underwood, won Entertainer of the Year. First female in 9 years to win it!
