American Idol Top 4 Idol Chatter and Idle Chatter

Wow, do we all have to pull out the I KNOW MUSIC cards?????

It's not expertise, it's PREFERENCE, folks. It's not a matter of wrong or right, it's what you like personally.

I miss the old fun thread. This year it seems to be so polarized. The fact of the matter is all THREE of these men deserve to be there and that's something that hasn't happened on AI in YEARS. No matter what you like or don't like, these guys will be bigger and better than they were a few months ago.

Now can we all just get along???? :grouphug:

AMEN!! I completely agree w/ you, Robin. I have no problem with people saying who they like/dislike and why. But the whole right/wrong thing has gotten a bit out of hand.

Wow! I have been reading posts from last night and I am amazed at all of the Adam hatred here. It is like some of you saw a weaker performance, smelled blood and are jumping on wounded prey. It was not Adam's best but I'll just mark it up to a bad night. Everyone can have an off night, but his performances all season show that he is deserving of the title.

I am late to give my opinions on last night but, overall, I think that I was disappointed with the whole show. I just didn't get Adam's version of "One" and "Cryin" was just OK. I agree that the backup singer just made a mess of that performance. Kris's "Apologize" was good but not great. I don't like the song "Heartless" but at least Kris changed the way it sounds. Why is Danny still there? Did not like either song, do not like his raspy singing voice. I see that some of his supporters on this board are from Wisconsin. Do you think that you would still support him if he wasn't your hometown boy?

I'm afraid for Adam tonight but hope that it is Danny's time to go.

I love all three of the guys that are in the top 3. (I loved Allison too)
However, I think either Danny or Kris should be the ones to go home this week. (it will just make for a more diverse final if we have Adam against one of them)

Kris's second song was AWESOME last night. I've never heard the original version, and it made me hope that maybe he will stick around over Danny tonight.... And since I have liked Danny since his first audition, and really was indifferent about Kris the first time we saw him.... (I think in the top 36)....I am suprised that I feel that way.

Adam's tounge has become more distracting in the past couple of weeks, probably because when someone draws your attention to something, it starts to stand out. (kind of like David A's lip licking last year:scared:) I still enjoy his performances, even though it is totally NOT my style of music at all.

Whoa, that's a pretty broad and false assumption. DH and I are HUGE rock fans (Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, GNR, STP, ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin, etc...). We both think that Adam screeches and his version of "rock" just doesn't appeal to us. We both think he has too much of a theater sound in his voice. Personally, I laugh when people compare him to all these great rock legends. I think he needs to do a little more than appear on AI to prove himself. So far, he hasn't to me. Until then, I don't think the comparison is fair. Just b/c we don't think he can sing doesn't mean we're less of a rock fan. It just means we don't care for his screechiness.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Yes, some of us do know rock. We love Lynyrd Skynyrd, NIN, and (of course) ZZ Top. ;)
It's funny, this assumption that if you're not totally an Adam supporter you must be ignorant of rock and roll. I would love to hear Johnny Van Zant or Trent Reznor's take on his performances. My thoughts--His performances are fun. But, very soon he's going to need to grow past the sing, screech, sing, louder screech formula if he wants to have any sort of long term success.
And yes, he does have the musical theatre thing in his voice. It's not easy, but he can learn to bring much more of his vocal musical voice into play when he sings, rather than "I'm making sure I hit the back of the theatre" projection.
In the end it will be interesting to see how he transitions from AI to either theatre or rock and roll. I think his best opportunities will come on Broadway, but we'll have to see. Hey, I'll make a prediction. Adam will win a Tony sometime in the next 10 years. :thumbsup2

It's the DIS..lots of cards

As for the expertise/preference you are correct. I prefer my music to be low on the screeching and my artists to be experienced enough to know that the music is for the people and that people will get tired of the same thing over and over.

Adam knew that at the start of this competition which is why we turned in week after week..just to see what he'd do next but somewhere in the last couple of weeks he lost that knowledge and now it's nothing but him screeching song after song.

I think a lot of us on this thread have had it with the right vs wrong mentality and are tired of being called "haters" if we don't like the prolific posters choice

I guess that since we can't fight about Religion or Politics anymore, we just have to fight about Adam. :rotfl:

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Yes, some of us do know rock. We love Lynyrd Skynyrd, NIN, and (of course) ZZ Top. ;)

There's a difference between southern rock and glam rock. Again, if you don't like the style of music you don't like the style of music :confused3

Which is funny considering the fact that the only "right vs wrong" mentality going on the past 24-hours was from Adam bashers putting down him and his fans  A "hater" is someone who... well... hates someone and vocalizes it to oblivious, which was done all last night. I don't care who likes who on American Idol... it's a TV show and I don't know any of the contestants to want to defend them. But hatin' is hatin' ;)

Nope, a hater is just that, a hater. A person who criticizes and criticizes and criticizes. Believe me I AM A HATER in a BIG way when it comes to some people. I could care less who likes who I like but if you're a hater it's not because of what is being reflected on you, it's what you do that makes you a hater.

Throw me some Carrie or Daughtry and I'd do some HATIN' like you won't believe. :cool1:

I agree, this has become the new Political thread! Can we get THIS banned???? :woohoo:

The splint sadly only comes in one color and the straps are in one color. When I wear I can't do palm up or palm down.

Thanks I'm excited for vacation, we're trying a new hotel staying at Beach Club.

Oh, sad! Although, I'm sure you're just so concerned about the color.

I'm jealous, Mandy! I'd love to try BC...and more importantly, Stormalong Bay. :thumbsup2

my artists to be experienced enough to know that the music is for the people and that people will get tired of the same thing over and over.

This is the problem I have with Danny- every week he sounds the same to me, one scratchy voiced song turns into another scratchy voiced song for him- other than that horrible off key screetch he did, every song of his melds into the other.

I saw that too. People are SICK. There are obviously a lot of closed-minded, ignorant, discriminatory people in the country who I will never, ever understand (or respect). But some things people are saying go so far beyond that... it's MENTAL what some people have said. Disgusting :scared:

Just editing to add that I don't mean everyone who doesn't like Adam does so because he's gay. I've just read some pretty sick things on message boards out there of the consequences people think should be brought upon him for being who he is. It's disturbing.

I'm really glad you edited that since I don't like Adam, would never buy his record and don't think he looks good at all. It is not because he is gay. However, I will say there are PLENTY of people who hate Danny in the same way for his clearly Christian views. They make fun of him because he can't dance. Um, I didn't realize that AI had become "so you think you can dance". They absolutely can't believe he has made it to the top three because.... well because people like him. I would take Danny's voice over Adam's any and everyday. But that is because I like his style, his sound and his looks. Just an opinion. Please don't be saying that only the Adam dislikers are ignorant, bigoted people. I have seen plenty of people being terribly mean to Danny simply because he is a Christian.

I agree with this. I find it absolutely ridiculous that people are outraged over his sexuality. It's a SINGING competition!

I agree. But do try to grasp that some people actually don't like his voice and theatrics. Has nothing to do with his sexuality. That said he does makes it perfectly clear. I say more power to him, but lets not pretend that Adam is mr. Clean cut getting a bad rap. He chooses every week to dress and act out his sexuality. You simply can't expect people to like him for that if they don't like his style.

Funny, everybody who doesn't like Adam talks about his screatching in his songs, yet the judges never make mention of it:confused3

I am an Adam fan:thumbsup2

Simon was on Ellen and Oprah and they both asked him who they think should win and he said "Adam"

Ryan Seacrest was on Ellen, and she asked him the same question, he also picked Adam

You do know that Simon said NO to both David Cook and Daughtry in the inital rounds. If Simon had been listened to we would not have these two great artists. So I don't take what he says to heart as much as other do. I think at this point, people are over the top with Adam. I think if they said any other artist, (especially on Ellen) they would be called a bigot and asked to give up their crown :rolleyes1 Just kidding!

Oh and the judges don't ever critique him. Randy is the only one brave enough to say he was too theatrical and came really close to saying he didn't need to screech!

Here's why.

Believe me, as an event planner, I've listened to countless hours of musicians' demo reels and.... I know from screeching. The judges do too (although they barely called Danny on that howler from Dream On). Here's the deal:

Adam does not screech.

He has a "rock wail" or "rock scream" which as Danny Gokey so ably demonstrated last week, is freaking hard to do. You have to be in key, on pitch, able to sustain it for a lonnnng time at high intensity-- yup, it's hard to do and Adam does it impeccably. In fact, I'd say he's one of the best in the world right now in terms of a rock voice.

And you're either gonna like that or not. I'm an old school rock chick and I LOVE it.

A listener might not like the rock wail, but Adam does it right, just like Danny Gokey may do praise band music right but I just don't like that music or Kanye West does his stuff right but I don't like it either. I'm not saying those artists are not good at what they do, I just don't like what they do and that's an important difference.

The amazing thing with Adam, for me, is that he's able to do so much more than just an amazing rock voice.

I do wish last night that he'd showcased more of his ballad work, but I think he was going for his comfort zone -- he's said that as much as he got the accolades for TOMT and MW, he feels extremely vulnerable when he sings like that. It's not uncommon for an artist of his caliber and intensity at this age to be more comfortable showcasing musical skill, anger, sex, or humor than vulnerability. I think as time goes on and he matures and achieves more success, he'll become more comfortable showing the vulnerability.

I look forward to that and I'm looking forward to watching his development as an artist, because that's what he is -- an artist.

Thus ends my "Loving Adam Lambert" hour. You may resume your regularly-scheduled events. LOL

But see you didn't just do the Adam Lambert love hour you made sure you knocked down the kid who sings praise and worship as if that is some kind of genre that is subpar. At least that is how I took it! Also, I do agree with your point. The problem seems to be with Adam lovers is that they don't understand how someone couldn't love the wailing.

And being a singer (yep, here's that experience crap) I say all singers who are truly good recognize how to work a song. I agree that Adam can sing, vocally he is gifted, but I don't see him able to come out of the act long enough to make me feel all his songs. There were a few great performances, but almost everytime he had to ruin it with a wail. Kris and Danny however make me feel that they connect with their song. I see the difference just as you see the difference between screeching and wailing! :thumbsup2

Ok first I grew up in the 80's--the decade of awesome rock--I LOVE ROCK!!

Aerosmith,GNR,Metallica,Manowar(want a rock wail check out their song Thor!) From hair metal to heavy metal I rocked my way thru them all and passed on my love to my kids.

Adam can sing,I'm not saying he can't but hell even Steven Tyler knows you don't do an entire album of "rock wail" songs--It does nothing to keep people interested or to attract new fans which is what every singer/band needs to grow and become/stay important in an industry where one hit wonders abound.

Adam has chose to screech every song because the judges fall over themselves every week to tell him how wickedly awesome he is and how he can do no wrong and don't give him an actual critique--What they should tell him is that a singer of his caliber can do a song justice without screeching it or wagging his tongue at us (dirty thought :rolleyes1 )

See above post, I agree completely!

Wow! I have been reading posts from last night and I am amazed at all of the Adam hatred here. It is like some of you saw a weaker performance, smelled blood and are jumping on wounded prey. Wow surprised you asked that question? Um would you be a Adam lover if you didn't love the way he dresses??? Stupid question isn't it? I happen to think that Danny's voice is extremely sexy. I love the rasp. I don't know, did you give Danny a break about the bad note at the end of Dream on? Did you say he was having a bad night? Just a thought? Why when Adam stinks or lands in the bottom three is it, the show is rigged or the backup singer screwed up??

And I say no one DESERVES a title? It is for the American Idol, that means people have to like, connect and think they can sing. It has always been crazy to say the "best singer in America" because believe me there is always someone better.

This is the problem I have with Danny- every week he sounds the same to me, one scratchy voiced song turns into another scratchy voiced song for him- other than that horrible off key screetch he did, every song of his melds into the other.

This is how I feel about Adam?? One ballad, rock or what ever genre ends up in a "lets show them how high I can sing" song. It really is annoying. That is what I love about Kris. Always changing it up!

blah blah blah....everyone has an opinion. Tonight we see who makes it to the finale. Majority rules. I'd be disappointed if Adam was eliminated, but I still think Kris and Danny are talented, and I'd be a hypocrit if I didn't mention that I called Danny the winner after his very first audition. Adam leaving now would be (to me) like when Chris Daughtry got the boot in season 5...unbelievable. BUt ultimately, he WILL be just fine...and so will any of the FINAL FOUR. I see big things for all of them!

I'm really glad you edited that since I don't like Adam, would never buy his record and don't think he looks good at all. It is not because he is gay. However, I will say there are PLENTY of people who hate Danny in the same way for his clearly Christian views. They make fun of him because he can't dance. I've not once seen anyone put Danny down for being a Christian. You can't even compare the bigotry against Christians to the bigotry against gay people in this country but I won't turn this into a political debate ;) Anyway, again, there's a huge difference between making fun of Danny's horrendous dancing (which I find hilarious) and saying that Adam should be shot on stage and burn in hell because he's gay (which I've seen said more than once :scared:). HUGE difference. It's psychotic and goes so far beyond simply not liking a contestant on a reality show. I wasn't talking about people who don't like Adam, I was talking about the people who vehemently hate him because he's gay. THAT is bigotry and it's disgusting. It has nothing to do with Danny or his Christianity.

Except for his rendition of "Apologize" last night...;):rolleyes1

I think it's funny that these were the answers given. Because people say they don't like the screeching they're "haters" and don't like rock or don't like him because he's gay or any other of a myriad of excuses that have been concocted by the Adam supporters.

Yet the term "haters" has never once been used in describing yourselves and your dislike of Danny and Kris and not one supporter of Danny and Kris has ever called the Adam supporters "haters" for being such

Adam sucked last night. Plain and simple. And this is from someone who believes that Adam can sing but prefers when he does it without the "rock wail".

To say that posters who don't care for Adam have brought being called "haters" onto themselves by voicing their displeasure is exactly what I'm talking about.

And I find it funny that you're putting words in my mouth. I never said anyone on here doesn't like Adam because he's gay or you don't like rock. I said if you think he's screeching than you obviously don't like that type of rock because he sounds just like some of the top rock stars out there. Saying you like Guns N Roses but that Adam screeches would make absolutely no sense because they sounds very, very similar. I didn't love Adam last night but I didn't think he sucked. If it's not you're type of music, it's not your type of music :confused3 That's why it's called an opinion.

Seriously, it's a reality show. If all you do is bash something, you're a hater. I can't stand Danny and I think he sucked to oblivion  You wanna call me a hater? Go ahead! Again, it's a Disney message board with a bunch of strangers talking about a random reality show. It's time for everyone to calm themselves down and lighten up :thumbsup2
