American Idol Thread

I drove a carpool last night with a group of 10-15 year old girls. They are ALL voting for David A. over and over again. and all their friends are voting for David A.
And yes after that car ride I needed a little silence in my life.

Time to take away the use of them darned things to kids with bad taste!! :lmao:

The group of kids in my neighborhood, ages 6 -15 with my son as the oldest, think he's gross. I'm so glad because I'd have to tune out any kid who thought that muppet was CUTE...:scared:

:scared1: - that's kind of harsh

I understand that everyone has different musical tastes but I would never say anyone SUCKED just because I didn't like their style of music.

He must not be that bad if he's still there.

Jason is different and unique and a breath of fresh air for IDOL.

It might be a little harsh, but thats just my opinion. It not just his style of music, its his singing.

But to flat out say someone SUCKS is the rudest thing you could possibly say - especially when its just your opinion. Didn't you notice that quite a few people enjoy his singing so I hardly think it that his singing sucks :confused3

I will have to agree with David cook being the best but he sounds like alot of other singers in bands out now. I just prefer to listen to Jason - something different and refreshing.

I just can't figure out the judges :confused3 and why they :worship: David A. I can't figure it out because I think his voice is kind of nasely and he doesn't "make the song his" like the judges are always harping about yet they continue to :worship: him. Gag!!!

What songs did MJ and Carly falter on?
I think people took "falter" to mean "flubbed the lyrics". That is not what I was referring to. I think flubbing the lyrics (once) is pretty insignificant. What I was referring to when I said "falter" was failing to do what I said before: Making the song they're singing something important, current, vital, relevant, exciting to listen to, etc. Michael Johns' performances started out great, and then started going dull for us. He just wasn't doing anything special anymore to make us want to buy his albums or care if he wins or not. Same with Amanda (who flattened out pretty quickly and never was able to recreate the excitement we felt for her during the auditions/Hollywood Week) and eventually Carly.

Brooke, actually, was the exception: She continued to provide vital performances, but she actually went overboard with technical faults... she showed that she was not ready for prime-time by flubbing the lyrics on-stage for a second time in just a handful of performances.

They all can't be superstars... well they can be, but they're not. Michael Johns seemed like he could have been, but didn't live up to that initial promise I saw in him. With someone like David Archuleta, I believe he could grow into a superstar -- well, maybe not, but that's the point: He's young enough that we really don't know what he could become at this point. My impression is that Michael Johns has reached his full capability, and it just isn't good enough for him to be a superstar. (But he was off by not much, mind you.)

Incidentally, I think David Cook hasn't hit his full capability. Good thing too: I don't think he's as good, today, as Chris Daughtry is, or was while he was on AI, for that matter. However, I think David Cook could end up being better than Chris Daughtry. I have seen nothing to indicate that he couldn't... he keeps getting better.

Well obviously there are a lot of people who like Jason and his style or he wouldn't still be there.

KLC, as much as I didn't like her, got BETTER. So did Chikezie, Carly and Syesha.
Carly got better and then got worse or at least flattened out, IMHO. I agree that KLC, Chikezie and Syesha got better -- Syesha has gotten substantially better; she's improved more than perhaps all the other finalists combined. I wouldn't mind, now, to see her come in #2 to David Cook's #1.

I had actually started to like MJ more and more each week...and then he was booted. I really enjoyed his version of Dream On. The studio version of it is pretty fantastic. And I thought Carly was strong most weeks...even her last week there. So for me, they didn't falter at all.

I think MJ, David Cook, and Carly were the best this whole season. And I like DC a million times more than Chris Daughtry (well, actually...I can't stand Chris Daughtry! Eek. He sounds like Goat Boy...haha.)

So yeah...it's all a matter of opinion and perspective. You thought some people went downhill...when I thought they were going uphill.

One of the big problems I have with AI is that they release the studio cuts on iTunes, but not Zune Marketplace or Amazon or any other place where folks with non-Apple MP3 players can access them.

You can convert them. I have a philips mp3 player. My husband downloads the ones I want and converts them for my player.

This PEOPLE didn't think you meant flubbed. I don't think MJ faltered AT ALL. But that's mho...I'm biased.

I thought his best two performances were his LAST two.

So I can install iTunes even though I don't have an iPod, download the studio tracks, burn them onto CD, and then rip the CD?

I don't know exactly how to do it. my husband does it for me.

iTunes downloaded tracks to MP3 format.

Download the track then burn it to a CD using iTunes. From there you can rip the CD into whatever format you like. You will need to re-create the track information so your portable device recognizes it otherwise it will show up as Track # etc.

Good luck. I'm headed back over to the dark side if you guys have any other questions.

HoneyBee - do you have a certain program that converts them to MP3 format instead of m4whatever it is?

i knew it was coming for Brooke but boy, she took it hard. I felt bad for her. I was surprised at the very end when she went to the back of the stage by herself . Usually, the one who just got kicked off hugs and gets consoled by the other Idols. Made me wonder....
I can tell you that I would have gone straight to the arms of D.C. for a little consoling!:lmao:
That surprised me also. I've always liked Brooke, but I didn't like how she went to the back of the stage and ignored the other contestants.

I think you need to look at who's left. Brooke has been the mommy, for most of the finals. Who's going to be her mommy from within that group? Amanda or Carly, perhaps, but they're gone.
The only one left that needs a mommy is Archie and he's got his stage dad to fill that void. I definitely can't see David C needing a mommy.

My girls are 14 and 17 and they don't get it either.:confused3 They also think that Jason's hair is nasty.

They love David Cook (just like their mom)!
You raised 'em right! Let me guess, they grew up listening to Def Leppard. They were my son's first concert. How do you like the Leps new CD? I'm liking it so far. :thumbsup2

I can't wait to see what David C has in store for us next week considering he can rock the house! :woohoo:

This really means a lot to these people. (Okay, maybe not to Jason :), but to the others it does.) I think being eliminated is definitely going to be a pretty big hit to most of them. Maybe not David Cook, because I think he looks to Chris Daughtry as his model and sees that he's already gone as far as he needs to to get to the success he wants. However, the rest really need to win, so they get that big payday, and the full year contract that may set them on the golden path. Losing that measure of temporary security is almost surely going to be an emotional hit. I think Brooke would have felt a lot better after an extended hug from one of her friends among the finalists. I just do.

I wish Jason had left last night. He should have been gone along time ago. Carly gone before Jason was a complete joke. Brooke would have been gone but Jason should have been gone first. The only hope left is David Cook. I hope he wins. Carly and David have been my two favorites. They have had the best vocals. I also think Syeshia has not been that bad.

Didn't anyone else want to climb into the TV and smack David A. after he found out he was safe.....I am so tired of that "aw gawsh" act.

There was no question last night that he would be safe, so lay off some of the humble pie kid.
