American Idol Thread

I don't have a problem with the dreads per say.......it's just that as a singer he is TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jason just flat out SUCKS!!!!! He should have gone home a loooooooooooooong time ago.

Was the song he sang witht he ukalaele "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"?

:scared1: - that's kind of harsh

I understand that everyone has different musical tastes but I would never say anyone SUCKED just because I didn't like their style of music.

He must not be that bad if he's still there.

Jason is different and unique and a breath of fresh air for IDOL.

My girls are 14 and 17 and they don't get it either.:confused3 They also think that Jason's hair is nasty.

They love David Cook (just like their mom)!

I gotta wonder 'bout the hair too. I've heard that dreadlocks generally smell absolutely HORRIFC due to the lack of washing (of the hair, not the body).

From what Jason's family has said - the dreads are washed all the time - they do not stink. :rotfl:

Jason fans - If you haven't downloaded the ITUNES studio version of Forever in Blue Jeans - do it now, you'll be glad that you did.

How can that be?? Dreads can't be washed...or so I have always thought.

Earlier in the season that was all the talk on the AI boards and someone found a website dispelling the MYTHS of having dreads. I'll see if I can find the site................

Here it is:

http://www.howtodread.com/dreadlock.html

In fact, it says that NOT WASHING dreads is the easiest way to ruin them - they need to be washed at least once a week if not more.

Basically I thought it was dreads are not brushed but are washed - so there goes the stinking theory.

Yea, thanks to Jason C, my 15 year old (son) is determined to have dreadlocks now.

Agreed, it's great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have way more Jason than any other Idol on my Ipod. His hair bugged me when I first saw him too, then he opened his mouth and sang Daydream and I was hooked.

Curious to see who you think is a the best singer on the show and please don't say David A. because to me he is  (couldn't find a gagging smilie)

The best singer this year was between David Cook and Michael Johns. It was a toss up between those two. David A. has a nice voice and can sing good, but he is not the best. Right now at this moment, David Cook is the best singer.

We liked several of the singers this year, including Michael Johns (and Carly and Amanda and Brooke). However, only David Cook has shown inviolable talent and skill, week-after-week. Michael Johns (and Carly and Amanda and Brooke) started strong, and then faltered, being unable to do the magic necessary to be a real professional, i.e., sing anything well, making it their own, keeping it current, etc. In the end, I think this year had a better set of finalists that previous years, but more of the finalists just couldn't/didn't step up to the plate that in previous years.

Oh I hope you are not serious?? Nasty dread-lock dude is a terrible singer!!!!!!!! I can't see why people even vote for him. I watch with my wife, but I am going to boycott the rest of the season because he is still there. I mean come on, he frickin sang a song playing a uhkalale(sp?)!!!!

The problem is is that American Idol has now become a popularity contest instead of a singing contest. There is no way that dread-lock dude is one of the four best singers from the pool they started with.

Haha! Are you 12? "I am going to boycott the rest of the season"....haha. I'm laughing because I'm assuming that comment was a joke.

I don't understand...what's wrong with a ukulele? It's actually a difficult instrument to play and he taught himself in a matter of days. Are you referring to when he did "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" because that is not a version from the Wizard of Oz. It's a beautiful version and you can check it out here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PL-uL2M3xvM

P.S. American Idol has always been, and will always be a popularity contest (and a t.v. show meant to entertain.)

Oh, I'd be curious to know who you DO like on the show.

Your girls like David Cook? Then you raised them well! Haha!

I think you wash dreads with alcohol so I imagine they don't smell that bad.

What songs did MJ and Carly falter on? I thought MJ's last song was great and I listen to the studio version quite often. I althought thought Carly was one of the best on ALW night. I don't think they went out on weeks they faltered.

I think the only people 'faltering" was/is Brooke, David A and Jason. I really like Jason but he's getting less interested in being there and it's obvious. Brooke was on the verge of a nervous breakdown. David A started strong and is becoming an amusement park act that sounds the same every time.

KLC, as much as I didn't like her, got BETTER. So did Chikezie, Carly and Syesha. David Cook is the most talented of the bunch, imho, and is the most marketable and surprisingly broke into my heart from about the 3rd week and has gotten better and better since.

I agree with pretty much everything you said.

The beautiful thing about music in general is that there is something for everyone. Once you kind of realize that, shows like AI become a little more pleasant to watch.

He has a really pleasant voice, but his style probably doesn't appeal to a lot of people. I'm not a fan of (modern) country, but I'm not prepared to say that any of those singer "suck" ...out of respect for those who DO prefer that musical style.

You don't like Jason, that's cool. I'd just tone it down a little 'cause you're not going to change anybody else's mind.

See, we agree with another thing, ckay!! :thumbsup2

Why do they like David A? Just curious as I can't imagine his songs would appeal to that age group.
DD14 loved David A at first, she just thought he was the cutest thing! She has now decided that she likes David C much more due to his singing and rock style. I think her infatuation with David A wore off and is now more listening to the music.
She just can't understand my love of Jason though. He really skeeves her! I personally LOVE him!

I was just happy Jason was safe - got it over in the first few minutes of the show thankfully.
:thumbsup2 Same here!

WOW, tell us how you really feel, why don't you? As others have pointed out, he played the ukalele with Somewhere Over The Rainbow because that's how the version he sang was done originally! He was excellent!
Everyone has the people they like and don't like on the show, but IMO what you said is way over the top. I personally could not stand Amanda but never bashed her like you have done to Jason.
