American Idol Thread

So, hmmm, not sure but you are a Jason fan? :rotfl:

I gotta tell you that I am too. I am no singer, to say the least, but I cannot see what was so terrible with his version of Memory. I enjoyed it very much. It wasn't genius or anything, but I didn't think it was as horrific as people say.

I said it before, I would definitely buy a CD of his. I like his soft sound also and if he is a good songwriter, he has it made.

I would just like to hear him speak a sentence. I am surprised that he is still, after all these weeks on TV, so shy and awkward.

I loved Jason's version of MEMORY and it's my all time favorite song. I like the soft sound too. He does write his own music, if your interested in hearing some of it go to:

www.daydreamingboy.com

go into media then music and you can hear and download Jason's original songs.

Question... do you guys vote for the week's performance or the overall season?

I vote for the overall not from week to week. It seems that a lot of people vote from week to week... like Carly had a good week she should be here. And whoever had a bad week that person should be gone.

I did think Carly and Syesha had a good week but overall I am not crazy about them. I have my faves and it is too late for Syesha for me she has been boring forever so one week doesn't cut it. IMHO.... Carly bugs me, this week didn't change that.

And as far as American getting it wrong... it is so funny that this comes up every season. We don't like 1 type of music or 1 person on AI so just because the person may be your favorite contestants others can't stand that person and my faves are necessarily yours.

I have been shocked speechless with MJ and now Carly. I loved MJ and not crazy about Carly but I know people here and IRL that are. The thing that I am shocked the most about it David A... I really don't know 1 person that likes him or who has ever voted for him. I don't think it is only the teeny boppers because my girls and their friends can't stand him. I think his Dad has several phones lines and his fingers are tired after the 2 hours :rolleyes1

I totally vote for overall. Early on I try to identify which singer will, in the future, make the type of music I would buy or who performs in a way that I enjoy. Which singer can I trust to make a good CD a year from now? If somebody messes some lyrics now and then or struggles with, say, country week, that doesn't change who they are, in my eyes, as an overall artist. Jason, Brooke, and David C are performers who I would spend money on someday, so I'll continue to vote for them. David A can sing, but he won't be an artist that will appeal to me when this is all over.

Each year until the top 12 I vote for several people I think that may become my favorite of the season. When they get to the top 12 I usually have my favorite then I only vote for that person as I've read that splitting your votes between a couple of people isn't a good idea and doesn't help either one, whether or not that's true, I don't know but I stick with my favorite from then out no matter how they do that week.

Ummmmmmmm.......I hate to admit it but my DS(12) likes David A. and has since the beginning and I've been known to vote a couple of times each week for David A., LOL!!! shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! :rotfl:

The last couple of weeks though I've only voted for Jason as I told DS(12) that Jason needed the votes more than David A. does.

I haven't voted at all prior to this year and this year I have only voted for Jason. That is when I could actually get through.

America doesn't always share my preferences. :(

I think we all need to remember this!

I admit I was miffed when Daughtry went home, but none of the eliminations this year have seemed like a travesty to me.
:confused3
Apologies to Michael Johns and Carly fans. :flower3:

Personally I haven't connected with any of the contestants enough to care if they go or not... well, maybe David Cook, but I'm certainly not passionate about him to the extent many folks are. Yowza!

Question about voting....

Do you really just vote for who you think did the best that night? I see a lot of comments about who should go based on that night performance.

I agree with you. I don't think the voting is meant to be just about that specific performance. Sheesh, if that's the case then maybe there has been a voting travesty after all. David A should have been gone after "We Can Work It Out"
At least IMO ;)

FWIW, I seldom vote at all, but I spent Tues night hitting redial over and over on two different cell phones. I'm sure many of you will be mortified to know the votes went to Jason and Brooke.
:duck:

I made the mistake of commenting that DD's favorite had the worst performance of the night (Jason) I swear I thought she was out of earshot at the time. Oops!
So I made ammends by voting for her favorite, and since I was doing that, I voted for her sister's favorite too. That would be Brooke.

We don't all have the same tastes in music and I don't think AI has ever been about finding the best vocalist.

I think you should vote for who you want to win. Everyone has off nights.

Something I try to keep in the back of my mind is who is going to sell music and be someone that people are going to really notice and would it be someone that I would actually go out and spend money on a CD or a concert ticket?? Anyone can say what they want about Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, whether you like them or not, they all have a huge talant that is sellable and marketable. I think with this years performers the only one I can see being in this category is David Cook. And I don't particulary care for him but when I look at him he is singing what is popular today and could easily be a pop star. Sure, I think David Archuleta can sing, he has a great voice, but does he really have what it takes that years from now you will see him in the spotlight, I really doubt it. Chris Daughry, Carrie, and Kelly, I see them being around for quite some time.

I was pretty surprised to see Carly go last night. I enjoyed her performance on Tuesday. I thought she'd make it further, especially since she was supposedly a "plant," but look what happened to Kristy (I thought it was her time to go anyway). Carly was becoming one of my favorites, so I was a little sad to see her go.

I really liked Brooke in the beginning, but she seems to be slipping a bit. I don't think she should have stopped and then restarted her performance. She needs to learn to keep on singing and pretend the mistake never happened. Though I do agree with Simon that it was brave of her to do what she did.

I thought Syesha nailed her performance on Tuesday (and again on Wednesday), even though it seemed a little old-fashioned to me. I think she would really do well on Broadway.

David Cook's performance wasn't my favorite of his, but he still did okay. I think out of the group that's left, he should be the winner. I like David Cook, but I actually liked Chris Daughtry better..... :duck: :teeth:

Jason and David A. are good, but they aren't my favorites.

My girls actually HATE David A too.... they think he is boring and looks creepy.

My DD9 says the same thing. I told her that I've read some people think he looks like Zac Efron, and she said, "Well those people need to get their eyes checked." My grandma, however, loves him and thinks he should win. I guess that is who is really voting for David A -- grandmas across America.

I can say that if I heard David A. on the radio, I'd say, "Blecch, what is this boring CRAP?" and turn it off very quickly. Jason I would stop and listen to, and David Cook too. I like Brooke, but I'm not sure I'd actually listen to any of her music.

I don't recall three contestants forgetting lyrics. Besides Brooke, who forgot lyrics on Tuesday night?

Carly and David A.

Zip: Not only did they flub it but they were EXCUSED?? I'm really confused by the direction to the judges. What happened to the "at this stage" speech?

Simon saying "everyone makes mistakes"????? :scared1: Did I wake up in Bizarro world?

I thought so. And she said she never did that before!

Actually she said she had never forgotten the lyrics before, not that she had never started over before. ;)
A minor distinction for many I'm sure... but the issue the first time wasn't with lyrics, it was with being on key.

Folks should certainly take the false starts into account, as they should the incorrect lyrics, or the wrong notes, or the lack of versatility, etc.

Along those lines; while I agree that Syesha had one of her best performances of the season on ALW night, the judges didn't mention her timing issues at all either. She was way off on the begining of that performance.

BTW, I thought Carly handled her elimination well overall, but I didn't really care for her snarky comment about never forgetting her lyrics.

Uh...that wasn't a snarky comment. She had messed up her own lyrics on the show night. So she was commenting how on results show night she didn't.

See...people didn't even realize that she messed up the lyrics on Tuesday because she just kept on going.
