American Idol Thread

I'm not a big fan of Mariah, so this week was just okay for me. :goodvibes

I'm so tired of David A. sounding "the same" week after week.

I liked Kristy's song and I'm hoping she won't be in the bottom 3.

Syesha can go home!

I think it will be Syesha, Brooke and probably Kristy :( in the bottom 3 but I really hope Syesha goes home finally. I've been sick of her for awhile.

It was so sweet to see David Cook get tears in his eyes. He does such a great job with any song he sings, week after week. Like Paula said, "he's the whole package" but I still don't want him to win. Let David A. win. Then David Cook can be snapped up by a GOOD record label, and he can do the songs HE wants to do, not what Idol tells him to do.

I wasn't all that impressed with Brooke's song, or Jason's either. Just, eh.

Does anyone know who the mentor is for next week? I know it's either Andrew Lloyd Webber or Neil Diamond. I am looking forward to the week it's Neil Diamond. I love most of his songs.

David A. - Competent performance, but as others have said, he sounds the same every week. And it was weird hearing that kind of song being sung by a guy. I just don't get why the judges aren't harder on him.

Carly- I totally agree with Simon that she is overthinking everything. She just sounded off tonight and didn't quite connect. I am a big Carly fan, so hopefully she stays. She looked very nice tonight :thumbsup2

Sayesha- Good, pleasant singer and personality.....but she sounds like a 1,000 other good, pleasant singers out there. She just doesn't have the personality or originality to win.

Brooke- I must be the only person who really liked this performance. I thought it was really good and played to her strengths. I liked that she just did the piano. I thought it was really authentic and cool and Brooke, DC and Jason they were the only ones who really took risks and changed up the songs.

Kristy- She was ok. Nothing spectacular but not horrible either. This girl needs to learn how to move around and work a stage. The annoying arm lifting on every big note was so distracting.

David Cook- It started off a little shaky for me, he needs to power through his low register a little more. But once he got going, I really, really liked it. I agree with Mariah, it was haunting. He really is the complete package, and I agree with Randy that he could cut an album today.

Jason- I liked it. I think it worked for him. He is just so original and has such a good vibe about him. I don't want him to win, but he is definitely my second favorite guy!

Who I would like the bottom 3 to be: Sayesha, Kristy, David A with Sayesha going home.

Who I think it will be: Sayesha, Carly, Brooke with Sayesha going home.

Loved David C ~ thought he was by far the best.

Jason may as well be horizontal for all the personality he has. :rolleyes1

David A makes me want to throw up, honestly, Just can't stand the kid.

And I agree that I hope David C does NOT win, so he'll have a fantastic chance at succes!

Does anyone know when the itunes version from last night become available? I want to download David C's. :)

They're usually available the full second day after the performances. Tomorrow is the projected release date for last night's performances.

I was petrified of the Mariah Carey night, and it seems, without reason. I was pleasantly surprised by almost everyone. Simon was right...the guys DID win the night...by a MILE.

My take FWIW:

David A: Another solid performance. The song was a good choice for him, as it's really the ONLY type of song he can do. I can't see him doing anything upbeat or uptempo. He's like Josh Groban, which isn't necessarily a bad thing I guess.

Carly: Maybe my tv has different speakers on it, but I thought she was terrific. I really expected her to be lavishly praised by the judges and was floored with the criticism. I don't think she'll win in the end, but I think she's a great singer with a bright future thanks to the Idol exposure.

Sayesha: It's unfortunate that one can be a good singer (maybe even great) in this competition and still have ZERO chance of winning due to a lack of luster/personality (Melinda Doolittle anyone?). The song was great if not predictable like David A. It was aTOUGH song to sing and she did well, so it'll be sad when she gets the boot.

Brook: As others have stated, her murder of more than a few notes in this performance may have spelled her doom. She took the judges criticsm last week and tried to implement it this week (Piano only) but I think this song needed the orchestral swell in the bridge...proof that she's just doing what she's told rather than making her own choices. Also I am SICK TO FRIGGIN DEATH of her talking back at the judges during the critique. Stand there and SHUT UP!

Kristy: I can't say she's grown on ME< but she has improved quite a bit. Compared to the others left, she can't even hold a candle to them. The song was good, she looked nice, and someday she'll turn out a mediocre Country album like so many other Idol cast offs.

David Cook: The man can do no wrong. I have no idea how to even describe his performance. I think he's a musical genius and is in danger of replacing Chris Daughtry as my favorite artist (I bet Chris is mighty nervous bout DC). The tears at the end? Uhh...my heart melted. Some people have asked "what's the draw?". They don't get why women like him. He's not a stud, he's not HAWT in the Brad Pitt/hot model kind fo way, but he has an undeniable appeal. He is EXACTLY my type and there is a very lucky lady out there somewhere who'll get to call him HERS.

Jason: Another one with a problem. GREAT stage appeal, great personality...lackluster voice. Like David A and Syesha, every song of his sounds the same and I am over it.

Tops:
David C
Carly
David A (in that order)

Didn't offend:
Kristy

Blech:
Jason
Syesha
Brooke

Who SHOULD go home: Brooke or Syesha

Who Probably goes home: Carly or Jason

Lots of people are stating that so and so always sounds the same. Don't you think that at this point in the competition, they should? I find that every one of them sounds the same, now, and that is a good thing. They have found their niche and if we don't like them, we don't like them and never will.

David A is the typical balad singer.
David C. is the alt rock singer.
Brooke is the singer/songwriter/coffee house girl next door.
Syesha is the diva balad singer.
Carly is the powerhouse wannabe.
Jason is the laid back easy listening guy.
Kristy is the country chick.

They do the same thing every week and so they should. That's who they are.

- editted to add that I think the girls are in trouble tonight. I don't think any of the guys will be bottom three. I think Randy Jackson's interview stating that he would never sign Jason but would sign Kristy Lee has ticked off the Jason fans and they are voting like tweens.

Even on the same album, a musical artist shows different sides of themselves. I think the point being made is that David A only has one side. That's not surprising.

I think you misunderstand. I's not that they sound the same (as in their voices). I LIKE that when I here a song for the first time I can identify who is singing it without knowing. But some of these contestents are singing the SAME type of song over and over again. David C at LEAST makes the songs sound new and different. "Hello" was completely different from "Elenor Rigby" which was way different from "Billie Jean".

We've heard a different side of David A. We just didn't like it.

I thought they all were average except David C. I looooove his voice, he could sing me the Yellow pages!!

Cannot stand or tolerate KLC, David A or Syesha. I'd be happy if they ALL left... :furious:

I still think they all have the same vibe. I think if you like an artist you hear the differences. If you don't, they are boring and you don't hear the differences. I think it all comes down to your likes and dislikes. I've heard many people on the boards saying that different people sound the same and then people saying that those same people are amazing. I don't think it is so much that they are sounding the same as that you just don't like really them.

We've had several people, just on this thread, state that Jason sounds the same and several people say that he was amazing. There's nothing wrong with that, it is just personal preference but I think the differences come with who you connect with and who you don't.

I like David A for who he is. He does remind me of a young Josh Grobin. I think David A has a beautiful voice, it's very relaxing, soothing and uplifting, and that will be his market. You don't hear Josh Grobin going around singing country/rock/blues, etc. Why must these kids be great at everything? They are at this point just being themselves. You either will like them or not, but I don't think they deserve some of the comments being made about them.

If you are referring to Beatles night...it isn't that "we didn't like it"...HE couldn't HACK it.

I get what you are saying (and at the moment it's my beef with my other favorite band Nickelback...they're getting repetitive with their sound/songs). But I DID like David A/Syesha/Jason's performance. I said they sang well. They just brought nothing new to the tabl and have yet to show that they can do more than sound good at ONE tyoe of song.

You disagree.

Genre and sounding the same in every song are two entirely different things. You can have a type and show diversity. David sounds like he's singing the same exact song week after week. The same ups and downs, the same cue the screaming girls, the same everything. It's more than boring.

Based on the PR that's being released by AI, David C has taken over David A at the "sweetheart" of the Powers that Be. No doubt he is getting the lion's share of the extra releases.

I agree. I know it is all part of the business, but it makes me wince sometimes at what is being said about David A. To me, he is just a nice kid trying to do what he does best.

So I suppose if Andrea Bocelli ran out and did a country or rock album, that wouldn't be weird. I wonder if it would be any good. Honestly!

I loved David C last night... well almost every night :lovestruc It was so touching with his brother.

I checked out Dialidol and I would be okay with the bottom 3... I don't want any upsets like last week :headache:

There is *no* comparison between Josh Grobin and David A!!! :scared1:

Not even remotely in the same league.
