American Idol Thread

I agree. I know it is all part of the business, but it makes me wince sometimes at what is being said about David A. To me, he is just a nice kid trying to do what he does best.

And he does what he does very well, which is why I think he'll win. His niche is exactly the type of music that dol winners are forced to turn out. I think he SEEMS like he'd be a good role model, and the tweeny-boppers adore him. I don't think he's the best performer in the group though.

So I suppose if Andrea Bocelli ran out and did a country or rock album, that wouldn't be weird. I wonder if it would be any good. Honestly!

Uh oh...I sense a great disturbance in the force... Andrea Bocelli is an OPERA SINGER. He sings one type of music (extraordinarily well). THIS competition is supposed to about finding the total package. The uber-singer/performer. Someone who can cross the genres and still sound terrific. I don't think David A does that the best, but I think he's the most popular among the largest group of voters. And oddly, depsite the judges insistence that their looking for someone who can bring something new and exciting, EVERY Idol winner is forced to release the same ridiculous sappy, ballads. It's quite frustrating.

If Bocelli DID do a country album it sure would be weird...but mayebe it would be awesome! Who knows.

As for comparing Josh Grobin to David A...sigh...I wasn't referrring to talent or singing ability. I was referring to one who has made a successful career doing that type of music.

However, you can't argue with my opinion. My OPINION is that some performers sound the same and are boring me to tears. Honestly!

If you are referring to Beatles night...it isn't that "we didn't like it"...HE couldn't HACK it.

I get what you are saying (and at the moment it's my beef with my other favorite band Nickelback...they're getting repetitive with their sound/songs). But I DID like David A/Syesha/Jason's performance. I said they sang well. They just brought nothing new to the tabl and have yet to show that they can do more than sound good at ONE tyoe of song.

You disagree.

Oh, I'm not saying that I don't find David A. boring, I wouldn't buy his stuff, but I can certainly see where many people would love him and I appreciate his musicality. The kid can definitely sing really really well.

I'm just saying that I think it is natural that if you don't really connect with a singer, you aren't going to find them exciting.

Any other Brooke fans? Man I just love her. David C is still my #1, but I so enjoy Brooke's voice. I'm not usually a fan of chick singers, Norah Jones being the exception. I worry that Brooke will go before KLC (God that girl bores me to death)

I thought they all were average except David C. I looooove his voice, he could sing me the Yellow pages!!

Cannot stand or tolerate KLC, David A or Syesha. I'd be happy if they ALL left... :furious:

I agree! I haven't liked a contestant this much since Chris Daughtry! I just love David Cook's voice. He better not suffer the same fate as Daughtry though. I will be very upset if David A. wins. I really don't understand what all the fuss is about w/ him. :confused3 There is something about his voice I just don't care for. I also can't see how he'd do very well outside of Idol.

I think KLC and Syesha need to go...and SOON!

I'm not arguing with your opinion. I only disagree when others state their opinion as fact.

I guess what I am trying to say is that these kids/adults are doing their best, trying their hearts out, and it saddens me to see people be so very negative about them. They are all good at what they do to a degree, some are better than others, but they do deserve respect for their hard work and effort. Not raging angry faces because they are still there. It's a contest for Pete's sake. They are all winners in my book just for getting to AI in the first place. I wish them all luck.

Would you mind pointing out which facts were stated that you object to? Everything I stated has been my opinion.

ETA: Nevermind...I see your post above. I agree. I wish them all luck and I think they will all find success in their own particular areas, musically. Some I like a ton, some I don't dislike, but I'd like to hear them branch out a bit more. Then again, I think we've seen in the past that often when someone who is pigeon-holed for being repetitive steps out of their box and then does a mediocre to lousy job and gets reprimanded for it.

I think you're smart enough to figure out when someone is stating an opinion.

Otherwise, every single post would be littered with IMO, IMNSHO, JMHO, etc.

Not really necessary, as it's a given that what we are typing is our opinion. :confused3

And the judges tell them to stay true to who they are.

There are so many mixed messages sent by the judges. I like it when the contestants keep to their comfort zone. It makes for better listening. Some contestants have wider comfort zones than others, though.

:thumbsup2 to the mixed message thing.

My review:

David A. - "the boy wonder" can he do no wrong, LOL!!!??? Seriously the kid can sing and he'll probably win.

Carly - I had high hopes for this song and Carly. It's one of my all time favorite songs (not the Mariah version). Started out all right then got really bad to me.

Syesha - just ehhhhh to me.

Brooke - poor Brooke - I think she's falling apart. You could see her hands shaking and hear it in her voice.

Kristy - she was ALMOST tolerable last night. I said ALMOST, LOL!!!

David C. - nice but again he's just ehhhh to me. Personally, I don't think David' voice can hold a candle to Daughtry' voice.

Jason - As always nicely done, loved his arrangement of that song.

Top:

The guys outshined the girls by a mile last night. I predict all 3 guys will be safe and on the couch.

Bottom 3:

Syesha
Carly
Brooke

Going Home:

Would like for it to be Syesha but I think it's going to be Brooke.

David Cook: The man can do no wrong. I have no idea how to even describe his performance. I think he's a musical genius and is in danger of replacing Chris Daughtry as my favorite artist (I bet Chris is mighty nervous bout DC). The tears at the end? Uhh...my heart melted. Some people have asked "what's the draw?". They don't get why women like him. He's not a stud, he's not HAWT in the Brad Pitt/hot model kind fo way, but he has an undeniable appeal. He is EXACTLY my type and there is a very lucky lady out there somewhere who'll get to call him HERS.
ITA...David C just has that raw magnetism for me. I've never gone for the "pretty" boys. Give me the cute, funny, smart, and masculine guy any day...just like my DH.

David's performance last night was amazing to me! I was so worried about him doing a Mariah song. He gave me chills.

Based on the PR that's being released by AI, David C has taken over David A at the "sweetheart" of the Powers that Be. No doubt he is getting the lion's share of the extra releases.
I think you're right, Robin. Just listen to the judges last night...they want the two David's in the finale.

I really liked Brooke's and Carly's performances last night. I know that Brooke hit a few sour notes, but she put her heart into it. I missed most of Jason's performance because my DVR decided to record another show that I forgot to cancel. UGH!

I agree with most of the others, David A sounds the same every single week. He always performs well and has a great voice, but I like some edge to the music I listen to. My parents LOVE him and that says enough to me. LOL Our musical interests are miles and miles apart.

I love David Cook! He is the only one I am holding my breath for every week to see what he is going to do. And I agree, he has a lot of charisma...not pretty boy looks, though I do think he is cute. He has managed to make me download almost every one of his performances, and I have never done that...I would buy his music, definitely.

Anyone know when the finale is scheduled for? Gotta clear the calendar, ya know!!! ;)

It's usually close to the end of May. I am not that excited about the finales anymore, since I think the winner is eventually worse off.

I totally agree with you about David C.... this is an AWESOME video of the studio version of Innocent posted on the other AI thread, unbelievable!
