American Idol Season 9 Thread

I have made lots of comments about my ears bleeding these last two nights too! I also don't remember the pickings being so slim in other seasons. I can't even think of 12 people I think are good enough to be in the top 12. I can think of a top 6, maybe 8.

I've noticed that all the people I like so far this season also play the guitar. There is something about that combination I will forever like. One of the best things they ever did on this show was allowing instruments.

My favorite on the guy's side (really either side) is Lee. Period. I love his voice, he picked a song from one of my absolute favorite bands, and I really really hope he makes it into the top 12 at least. He did hit a few bum notes but on the recap -- that must have been from dress rehearsal -- he sounded fine.

Casey and Andrew are both good too and I hope they stick around. I'm tired of hearing about Casey's looks and Andrew's kid, but I am not going to hold either against them. The rest of the guys can pretty much go home. I wanted to like Tyler but he wasn't good last night. Aaron is young and has the potential to get on my nerves. Toddrick comes off as too arrogant. Mike -- not that great of a singer, and enough about the baby! You are not the first man to have knocked someone up! Tim? Yikes. He and John have hair styles that are distractingly annoying. Alex looked scared to death. Jermaine and Joe didn't leave much of an impression at all.

The girls are no better. Lilly, Didi and Crystal are all decent -- but only because the rest are so awful. Crystal needs to stop whipping out the picture of her kid and Didi needs to stop crying on camera. The only comment I have about Lilly is that her parents looked like such sweet people -- why the hell is their daughter living in her CAR at all???? I suppose they might live far away. But they just don't strike me as the type of the people who are cool with their daughter being homeless. Katie has a good voice but too young like Aaron in some ways. Epperly (Katelyn? can't remember) was better than I thought she'd be. Lacy and Paige were awful. Michelle and Ashley are wannabe power singers and I just hate that style. I want to like Haley but her constant smiling was a little weird. Seems like a strange thing to complain about, but something was just off beyond the squeaky singing. Janelle and Sioban didn't leave much of an impression either way.

Dialidol is largely useless at this point with only one person safe on either side. Glad there are 4 people going tonight. I just hope it isn't one of the few that I think are actually good.

Cannot WAIT until Idolatry this weekend. Slezak has been unimpressed like most of us, so it should be funny. He has Lee as the third best guy of last night.

After watching both nights, there are only a handful of contestants that I would want to listen to again.

From the guys I liked:

Casey James - Not just for his looks. He could actually sing and looked comfortable on stage. He should get extra points for being able to perform while the judges were carrying on with Kara. That has to be hard to do.

Aaron Kelly - I liked this performance and I hate Rascal Flatts' music. He looked nervous but he does have a good, strong voice.

Lee Dewyze - He had a strong performance, looked like a pro. One minor thing that bothered me is that it looked like the mic was too high for him and he spent the entire song craining his neck to sing into it.

As far as the other guys:

Alex Lambert - He looked so nervous. I felt sorry for him. I would like to see him again to see if he can do better without the nerves.

Michael Lynche - He was kind of OK. I don't think I understand what the judges hear from him. I was also very bothered by the guitar. It didn't look like he was really playing it, just using it as mainly a prop. It just accentuates how big he is and not in a good way.

Andrew Garcia - I expected better. Maybe I was just worn out by all of the so-so performances. It may not have been the best to come at the end of this group.

Todrick Hall - He was OK but the what he did with the song was terrible. I think someone else mentioned this, but I think you can see his theatrical background coming through. He can't sing like Adam Lambert but I think you can see that training in theater like with Adam. I am also bothered by his involvement in that children's touring theater group that ended up falling through and taking everyone's money.

Jermaine Sellers - Just OK. I think he can sing but he has too stop screaming those high notes. I would give him one more chance.

Tim Urban - That was bad. He couldn't hit the high notes. But he is cute.

Joe Munoz - I didn't like this performance, can't even remember why.

Tyler Grady - That was just weird and bad. Didn't like the way he moved around the stage.

John Park - Horrible, maybe the worst of the night.

They played Andrew's Garcia's song ont he radio today, and I thought it sounded way better than last night.
I am not sure why but I really did like it more hearing on the radio.

Sorry, I don't have time to read all the discussion from last night, but did anyone else see Simon give the "bird" to one of the younger boy contestants?

He was ticking off things on his fingers. 1. you are a decent singer 2. You are cute and 3. People like you. (ok, I don't remember the exact items, but you are cute was in t here) but rather than keep the #1 and #2 fingers up as he got to # 3... he just put up # 3....

DH noticed it first, I didn't so we rewound the dvr a bit.

...I definitely liked him a lot more last night than I did for his first audition (OR Hollywood Week, as well!) Casey James has a cool voice too - it reminded me a little of Boz Scaggs or Bob Seger....I can picture him singing "Lido Shuffle" or "Night Moves"....

Was it Tim Urban, the 4th contestant? I noticed something like that last night and wondered. I only saw through the first four.

I just read this over on TMZ.com about Simon and Ellen:

Our insiders say Simon and Ellen aren't even trying to hide it. Ellen can't stand what she believes is Simon's cruelty toward contestants. And, we're told, Simon actually enjoys pissing Ellen off with his blistering critiques.

People working on the show last night tell TMZ ... it was apparent on and off camera ... Simon's tolerance level for the contestants was at an all-time low, and he knew it was making Ellen uncomfortable but clearly didn't care. As one insider put it, "He was intentionally pushing her buttons."

It all started badly when Simon showed up late for Ellen's first week of "A.I." taping and made her wait around. Producers separated the two -- who began the season sitting side-by-side -- but the tension has gotten worse.

But business is business. "A.I." is beating the Olympics, and ratings for Ellen's show skyrocketed last week. In Hollywood, contempt has its upside.

I think so. DH swore it was the 2nd boy who is 16/17....But I think he is wrong. (I am SO bad with names this year!)

...who did he replace?? :confused3 I can't seem to remember....

he replaced Chris Golightly. He was the foster kid who got bounced from house to house growing up. he had blonde curly hair. My Hubby said he reminded him of Sideshow Bob.

...I remember the name (sounds like a porn star name... ) but I can't place the face or voice....:sad2:

I think Simon is still holding back.

Most of these people flat-out S**K!

ITA!!! I love Ellen, but what did she expect? I mean, she claims to be a huge fan of the show so she knows how Simon operates. Did she think Simon would just suddenly become sweet once she joined the judges panel? :confused3

It's actually the name of a medication you take to clean out your colon before a procedure...:scared:
