American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread**

Rumor has it that Bo IS singing on 3/9!!! :thumbsup2 Way cool. :teeth:

I was surprised they only showed his name. But that would explain why if he is going to sing. This way they got him a little PR before.

Hey Dizagain:

I agree with you about Ace...great to look at but he is so nervous that it shows in his performance...very weak this week. I like Bucky. I like that gritty rocker voice. Voters hopefully will remember it's a singing competition not Mr./Ms. America contest.

If you start dialing about 1/2 way through the last performance you can get through usually before the song is up and always before the judges are done critiquing. I was able to vote for Chris 20 times before Ryan even said the phone lines were open. Same with Mandisa last night. So dial early folks and lets keep Chris in this thing!

Absolutely, positively, without a doubt, Chris is the most talented and hardest working contestant in the competition this year. I haven't seen a lackluster performance from him since his initial audition. He's just that consistently good. It's all his to win or lose. I do love Mandisa but I don't really think she'll win. I'm not 100% certain Chris will take it but only because he's not a watered down pop kinda guy. No matter how long he stays, there are record companies lining up already and panting after the guy. He'll make it BIG. :woohoo:  :worship:

Overall, other than Chris's AMAZING performance, Gedeon was the only one who really wowed me. I got the hysterical giggles listening to Will because that song SO does NOT fit a teenage boy. I'm sure that's not the effect he was after :lmao:

We were able after the first singer to vote. Is it because of our time airing. We were texting and it was going and we were calling. I thought maybe cause it was already on the coast?

On not saying hi to Bo---it is not his moment, he had his moment.

On competition nights it is ALL about the competitors...they save all the fluff talk for results night and such.

It would have been inappropriate to take the spotlight away from those competing.

I could go the whole season without hearing Bo sing....I couldnt stand to hear him last season....

I'm quoting Sandy22 again this week since I seem to agree with her again.

1. Taylor – it was good but it wasn’t great. I liked last week’s performance better. - I really enjoy him too, but tonight was a bit annoying with the woos and yeahs. It didn't fit with the song. He still got about 25 votes from me.

2. Elliot – Awesome! - While I find it extremely hard to look at this guy and he still reminds me of Scott Savol, I think he did awesome and definitely deserves to be in the competition.

3. Ace – I cringed through that one. Lucky for him, his good looks are going to carry him through another week. - If he doesn't improve next week, I'm not sure even his looks will keep him around. This performance was painful.

4. Gedeon – Oh wow! That caught me by surprise! I loved it – it was awesome. Just my personal opinion but I think his voice sounds a little too refined/polished. I like male vocalists who sound a little rough around the edges. - I really enjoyed him tonight. I like Sam Cook and he nailed it. I think he has a chance in the R&B market, but I don't think he can pull off main stream radio.

5. Kevin – just average vocals. He’s too boyish for me…I want to hear from the MEN! - This little chicken needs to go home. The lisp is annoying and the song was worse than painful.

6. Sway – better than last week but he had trouble staying on key. I think he’s going home. I agree with Simon – very kareoke - Send him home now!

7. Will – he’s not very attractive when he sings with his mouth open. On to the important stuff, he impressed me tonight! Much better than last week. I think he’ll just make it through to the next week. - I was really surprised by him tonight. He sang beautifully. But, I don't see anyone offering a recording contract to someone with so little stage presence.

8. Bucky – Hooooweee! Loved the performance. Great voice – love the country rock vibe. - I am actually starting to put him in my top three. I love his country/rock vibe and I think he is needed in this competition to keep things well rounded.

9. David – another surprise performance! Really liked it! But I don’t think he can sing in any other genre. I think he’ll squeak through another week. - He can sing one way and one way only. Unfortunately for him, if someone wants to hear a crooner, they can buy a Frank Sinatra album and be set. There's no room in radio for him.

10. Chris – AWESOME!!! Paula looked like she was about to jump him! :lmao: Can't say I blame the girl! ;) - Wow! He blew me away. Heck, I wanted to jump him after that too!

Top picks: 1-Chris, 2-Giddeon, 3-Taylor, 4-Bucky :thumbsup2

Bottom 3:
Sway, Kevin, David
:thumbsup2

dolphindan1 I think Ayla is the hardest working....I just think Chris is gifted[/QUOTE said:
Ayla is my home girl (such a nice girl, her nerves are wearing off, lastnight the local Fox affiliate showed her audition and she was way less nervous then, hopefully we will see that cool, fun, great looking, Ayla again soon) but Chris, Ace and Taylor those men are hot!!!!!!!

Paula kept her hands off of Simon last night. :thumbsup2 It drives me crazy the way she tries to stop him from talking. She actually sounded sober last night. :goodvibes

Does anyone know if the contestants get paid at this level? I wonder how those with families to support are getting by.

I was thinking the same thing. I think Chris has a wife and kids. Maybe they give them a stipend or something. If not, it would be tough!

Although I did not hear Bucky sing last night, from the thread it seems he did very well. I am glad. I thought i was the only one who liked him last week. Hope he is around to sing next week. I like his voice and personality!

I agree with you but I also think/hope that Bucky will clean up nicely once the makeover team gets their hands on him.

Taylor - he was just ok to me last night

Elliott - Was in the kitchen and missed him but the judges seemed to like him.

Ace - didn't know the song, he was just ok this week but I did vote for him.

Gedeon - going home this week.

Kevin - he was just ok.

Sway - going home this week.

Will - he did ok, DS(9) voted for him again this week.

Bucky - I really like Bucky and I voted for him the most thinking he might not get as many votes as the rest - want to see him again next week.

David - reminds me of a lounge singer :crazy2:

Chris - WOW - he ROCKED!!! :thumbsup2 Sang my favorite Fuel song too!!! It was hard getting through to vote for Chris.

Best of the night: Chris

Going home tonight: Brenna, Heather, Gedeon, Sway or David

It sounds to me like some people just don't care for rockers. Chris sang the song he chose just as it's meant to be sung IMO. It's a rock song, not a ballad and singing it softly would have been strange.

The same thing with Bucky. He appears to be a country boy with a rocker's style. He has to sing hard at times. He did tone it down a lot though from last week so he's definitely listening and learning.

I'm still undecided about the women but so far I'm in Chris and Bucky's camps. I have high hopes for Taylor too but we'll see.

Well, my first AI post this season.

Chris kicks butt! Taylor is good but I can do without all the "heys' and whoas!".... And Bucky is alright. I think the young geeky kid is "ok" but way overrated.

ON the women's side, there are NONE I dislike as far as voice, though for some reason Paris girl gets on my nerves. She won't win, but I like Kellie a ton.

Chris absolutely blows the girls and guys out of the water imho with Taylor running close behind him. Wow - my DH and I were so impressed by him last night! Anyway, I think as cute as Kevin may be that it's time for him to go home...he has a sweet voice but really, not AI material yet. It's almost mean to keep him around just to pinch his cheeks and I feel like they practically told him that's why he was there last night with the Chicken Little thing. I wouldn't miss David, Sway,Kevin, or Will at this point.

And, I'm SHOCKED to admit this, but I'm trading Ace in for Bucky. Ace just doesn't perform well and he looks so nervous all the time...I feel like he should have given a solid performance by now. I'm sad about it, though.

I though the EXACT same thing last night - Bucky is doing really well - I voted fort him a bunch last night.

I usually listen to the perfromances and only watch about 1/2 of the song.

Taylor- His hair is getting less grey! Eh he's OK, not bad but not something I'll remember. I wish he'd stop saying whooo all the time.
Paula is just a big giant *yawn* she sounds like she's in high school..you're mean. Which I don't get because I thought Simon was giving Taylor very good, helpful advice. So it all comes down to shut up Paula!
Elliot- I really don't like this song, seriously it's horrid. I can't even judge the singing because the horrible song is too distracting. :scared: I do like him though.
Yeh Randy you're not Arsenio Hall and the dog thing went out when Arsenio did
Ace So am I really the only one that doesn't think he's attractive? There has got to be someone else out there...anyone? Wow he can't sing either. :crazy2:
Gideon- It was good but it sounded sorta of like something that belonged in church not AI.
Because it can never be said enough shut up Paula
Kevin- I'm scared for him after hearing his song choice. :scared:
:crazy2: Eek that was not good. Is Randy gotta a hold of Paula's drugs tonight.
Sway- Didn't sway me into liking him this week but he was better this week.
Will- He has a good voice just not a fan of his song choice because it seemed way too old for him. But he did a nice job with it.
Bucky- This guy cracks me up because when he speaks you think no way will this guy be able to sing and then this great voice comes out. :rotfl: I liked him a lot.
David- :scared: VFTW sure picked the right guy, he's terrible. Although he is better then John Stevens.
Simon is giving helpful advice and Paula just jumps on him?
Chris- I think he's great but he's not coming off as original to me, just like a guy that can copy the sound of other singers. I still like him a lot but I'd love to hear him make songs more of his own.

Top 2- Bucky & Chris
Bottom- Ace and Kevin

This has crossed my mind as well. Only I think the attraction is more on her part than his.

I thought Elliott and Chris were great last night. I also liked Will surprisingly. David is a friend and schoolmate of my daughter, and he is a VERY nice guy in person, but as much as I hate to admit it, he is in over his head.

First of all, let me say that I was a Bo lover from last season - from the early auditions through to the end - and I'm well OLD enough to be his mom!!! I just love the rock and country sound over the pop. OK, that's just me.

So....it was no big shock to my family when I went with Chris early on in the auditions and I'm still behind him 100%. There was just no comparison last night. Except for Elliott (who I thought was very good) and Bucky (who's starting to grow on me), no one really "brought it". Chris came out there and owned the stage. He did EXACTLY what the judges told everyone else that they needed to do, and Simon hit the nail on the head when he told the other guys that Chris has now set the bar for the rest of them. :worship:

As for who should go home tonight - SWAY for sure and then I'm kind of "iffy". I love little Kevin - what mom wouldn't - but he's in over his head as is David.

Wow, I agree with everything you said! I too am a Bo lover, though I have to admit that there are at least 2 or 3 guys this year that I think are better than Bo :duck:

Love, love, love Chris!!! :cheer2:

I liked Bucky and Elliott last week, loved them both this week! :thumbsup2

I loved Taylor UNTIL this week, when midway through his performance I said, "Okay the WHOO!s and HEY!s are starting to get annoying"! Kind of the way Fantasia drove me crazy because she could not end a song without yelling, "YEAH, YEAH, YEAH!" :worried:

I also thought Gedeon was great this week, for the first time! :)

BUT WITHOUT A DOUBT, TOP HONORS ONCE AGAIN GO TO:
CHRIS!!! :worship: :worship: :worship:
