I agree--I like genre nights much better.

When in their professional lives will they have to sing another artists songs in any capacity (unless the label thinks it will sell)? NEVER!

I actually feel that way about any themes. When will they have to sing a 50's song in their professional career? I would love to hear them sing their own songs, or perhaps up and coming song writer's songs. I'd love songs where we can't compare them to the original artist. I'll bet there are tons of struggling song writers who would love to get one of their songs out on national television.

I thought you meant any school! Seriously though I still doubt anyone but the geeks in their own schools think they are hot. The cool kids most likely see them for what they are.
what's wrong with being a geek? :confused3 i was nerdy in high school, and still prefer skinny guys with glasses :teeth: my own experience has been that cool kids are far less likely to see anyone for what they are.

Yes, I wish they could sing their own songs. Bucky has an original song on his website and it's awesome - a ballad and he hasn't sung like that on the show yet.

I don't mean geek as in smart or bookworm. I mean it in being unattractive. The cool kids won't be blinded by their appearance on AI. They will still see the unattractiveness.

Nothing, it's the "revenge of the nerds" on TV lately! Kevin, Taylor, the show Beauty and the Geek, the nerds & hippies on the Amazing Race. I think the "cool kids" are just getting nervous, that's all. ;) Go geeks! :thumbsup2 ;) :rotfl:

Yes, we all know how discriminating the "cool kids" are - thank goodness they can see through something as transparent as being on AI and can still recognize the "unattractiveness".

I am a long-time lurker and don't post much, but your post reminded me of why I hated Junior High - please tell me that you are a teenager and not an adult who really thinks like that.....

Your way of thinking is insulting but more than that its sad. The cool kids wont be blinded cause they cant see anything outside their group to begin with. I hope you are a teen posting and not a parent.

I don't think that way. I was talking about how kids in school were and how they are now. I substitute in school and see it all the time. Another poster said that the kids in John Stevens or Kevin's school probably think they are gorgeous. I disagreed. Maybe the other unattractive kids might think they are good looking but the ones that fall into the "cool" groups such as cheerleaders, jocks, and such most likely will not. Those groups are very vane and won't be bowled over by someone being on AI. They want the looks too. The whole package so to speak.

Lisa - Lisa has one of the best voices in the competition. Period. That said, it is a perfect broadway voice, which makes sense since that is where she got her start. Trouble is...not that many people enjoy Broadway music, which translates into too few votes. Wouldn't be surprised at all if she got the boot before some of her less talented competition, and it won't matter if she does. She will make her living in music. The less talented people certainly can't say the same.

I agree. I've been really confused as to why so many people here on the DIS don't care for her, but maybe that is it. I happen to like Broadway-style (Disney-style?) music. She is beautiful with a lovely smile and a wonderful voice. But she'd have been better off if she were a couple of years older. I really wish they'd require that they be at least 18 by the time the final top 12 competition begins.

But all that said, I do want her to stick around a while but not actually win. I'm for Chris and Taylor. She'd be my 1st or second choice of the females, though, along with Mandisa.

And I just have to say it - I am so ready for Kellie Pickler to go home. I don't like country music, and both her voice and personality absolutely grate on me. I wasn't for Carrie Underwood, either. If another country-style girl wins, I may have to give up on the show next year.

I wasn't insulting to anyone as far as I'm concerned. You took it the wrong way. Whether you like it or not that is the way these kids are. High schoolers and middle schoolers are all alike when it comes to what is attractive. Personally I agree with many here that Kevin is far from the sex symbol he seems to think he is.

I like Lisa's voice but only think she will do well sticking to Broadway type shows. I don't think she comes close to the others. I am routing for Chris first and then Taylor. Mandisa has a nice voice but doesn't do anything for me. I think Kellie is another Carrie but on a higher level. I think she sings much better then Carrie ever did but does that that naive trait. I fall into the "believing that is really her" group. I doubt she is faking it. She'll probably last close the end.

The two I dislike the most are Kevin and Paris.

I think Kevin is actually buying this whole sex symbol thing. It's like America has become his mom and is telling him things he wants to hear instead of what he NEEDS to hear. He looks like a qewpie doll (sp?) and has the dance moves of PeeWee Herman. Ugh...not a winning combination.

Paris just annoys me.

LOL! I too think he is buying into this sex symbol stuff. He won't be a happy camper when reality hits him. It's happened to many other AIs in the past. I loved Paris at the beginning. She should really stick with jazz as she sounds horrible in anything else she sings. I don't think she'll be around much longer.

They go to school with them????

My comment for was for the girls who attended school with them. I seriously doubt they think they are nerds at this point. Heck John had lead in the school musical (it sold out) and he has a CD out.

Now--Kevin....maybe he will be as hot as William Hung. pirate:

Seriously though--popular, hot, whatever--at THEIR school. Not the girls that attend school with your son.

I work with kids that DO know John Stevens and trust me...he was NEVER considered a nerdy kid in school. He was very well liked and respected. He had parts in many of the schools shows and the one young gentleman I work with was so thrilled to see him do so well on Idol because he is such a nice kid. He took so much harrassment though it was horrible for him and his family.

I think a 50's theme will be great!! Wonder what everyone will sing?

I truly think that so much has to do with the connection to the audience as well as their story being played up. Although I didn't care for Gideon, he could sing - better than some who are still there.

And I hate when the judges contradict their advice to the contestents....they want them to break out of their molds and then when they do they say you should stick with what you know best. This week shoud prove interesting...I wonder what Barry will sing if he performs.

This drives me nuts too and they do it every week! Why is Chris praised for doing the same thing every week while some like Bucky really go for it and it's still not right? Makes no sense. :confused3

See, I don't understand this thinking at all. I am a country music fan and although I don't really care for Fantasia style music doesn't mean I would not listen or continue to watch a show because of it. There still is a lot of variety, nor would I say "Oh she's awful, I don't like her kind of music" That doesn't make her a bad singer, KWIM?

It just seems that people are afraid to like country music. I hear "well, I don't like country music so I'm not going to listen to her, or she sticks because she sings country music" There are so many different ranges of country music to lump people into one group, as are there different type of pop, etc. JMHO

I think it is more that popular music is more popular than country music -- people, on average, and with exceptions, actually do LIKE it better.

And so it begins...those STUPID cheesy, just plain awful Ford Focus sing-slong bits. What was UP with that crazy, creepy Big-foot thing???? That was just plain bizarre. Whoever is producing those things needs to stop, NOW. In fact, when Chris was just singing and playing the guitar all alone by the camp fire I could've just listened for hours...and then it got ruined when the others joined in. Seriously. The others ruined HIS song (for me...maybe not for you), then you could TOTALLY hear Kevin's lisp mutilating the group song. He has to go next or else he will mutilate the entire group sing on tour...but then again, they WILL sell more tickets with him along so who knows...

I can't stand to watch these things! They make me cringe. Everytime I catch a bit of one I think "Chris and Taylor have got to be mortified doing these things!" They are so cheesy! I think those 2 are so much better then these 8th grade skits.

That's true. I just want to have Ace there a little longer. I know he's not the best and he won't win, but I loved when he did Father Figure but he hasn't sang like that since. I think he is the real deal - a sensitive guy. He always looks like he will throw up when it comes time for the judges comments and when they are going to announce who stays.

I agree. His Father Figure performance blew me away! As someone on this board said (sorry can't remember name off hand!) I was totally "twitterpatted" during this performance. :lovestruc I want that Ace back!

And now I'm caught up.

Thats me! I am twitterpatted by him! I still think he's a cutie but he better step it up next week or he'll be waving bye bye :wave2: . I'm not ready to see him go yet...so I'm hoping for the best from him.
