American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

Paris putting her gum in Ryan's hand was just nasty. She should have been up there with gum in her mouth in the first place. If she had to have it, then she should have just swallowed it.

That was the moment that defined her immaturity. Only a kid would even consider going onstage with ANYTHING in her mouth. And WHO hands anybody any unfinished foodstuff that has been in their mouth? That's right - your kids.

I laughed though because I've always heard about how Ryan is a real prissy diva (the proper word is escaping me, sorry.) So that was right up there with the moment when Kellie handed him her "snot rag."

Now, it would have been hilarious had Paris done that AFTER she learned she was eliminated and they asked her to sing. That would have cracked me up.

"You want me to sing? Sure Ryan, I'll sing. Here hold this." :rotfl2:

Oh, I think Taylor will win and I think he will fit the crown much better than Chris.

OMG Dan, we are all well aware of how much you don't like Elliott, we've heard it a billion times.

and I will still continue to voice my dislike for him....if others can praise him all the time I am well within my right to voice my dislike....but I really like the others....it wouldnt hurt my feelings if any of the other 3 won....My favorite is Taylor

Yep - they were called "The Silver Platters".
I could just hear them singing "When it's time to change, you've got to rearrange..." with Peter's voice cracking. :rotfl2:

The lame synchronized 70's style dancing that didn't help either.

No surprises on who went home last night - dial idol was right on once again for who went home.

It's so hard seeing them leave one by one each week - they are all talented and there is enough people in the world where everyone can have their own fan base and do well in the music industry.

I'm hoping for a Taylor/Chris finale which either one could win.

Too funny. Before they sang the group song, I said to DBF, "They haven't been doing the group songs..." When they stood up, I said, "OOOH, maybe they'll sing a Brady Bunch song!"

Lots of folks disagree, and believe that Kat's rendition was far better than the original. I said earlier in the week that the only performer I'd buy a CD for was Chris, but after Kat's performance of Black Horse and a Cherry Tree, I'm going to have to reconsider. .

Geez, it was just my opinion. Alot of folks feel the same way I do too! :thumbsup2 The thing about KT Tunstall is that she arranges and does all her own instruments for her music - she's awesome. To have someone take an artist like KT's song and totally turn it into something else was weird. Not sayin Kat can't sing - she definitely can - I just hated what she did with KT's song.

Woo hoo! No more Paris. I am so done with her over rehearsed, and "forced" stage presence. And that whole "hold-my-gum" thing was immature, tactless and rude. She should've swallowed it at worst or preferably shown some class and had NO GUM to begin with. Ewwwwww....

However I was roaring at Ryan trying to non-chalantly dance behind Paris while attempting to save her lav-pack (lavalier microphone pack, for those of you not in the biz). He was aa cool customer.

Elliot will go next. It was terribly obvious that there is a definite pecking order by the producers. they gave Chris the first solo in the group song, then Taylor then Kat...then they buried the BRIEF solos by Paris and Elliot in the middle of the song. BTW, the group song sounded JUST like "A Moment Like This". In fact at one point, the melody was so similar that DH and I both looked at each other and sang AMLT and it matched what the idols were singing in tune!

Once Elliot is gone it will be a real horse-race for the finish. While I think Chris is so beyond the rest of the field with his talent, I would actually be ok if he loses since he will be beyond successful and I will buy his albums. I'll also buy Taylor's album too whether he wins or loses.

I guess I am a rocker at heart. I am 38, so I am no spring chicken in case that's what you are wondering. I am just wondering what are the ages of those that love Taylor so much? I just dont get it. He is funny and amusing, but I just dont see him as the "American Idol". He is a little too spastic for me. I would have loved to hear him sing a modern song last night-the Beattles song seemed like the wrong choice for last night.

I'm 50 so to me you ARE a spring chicken!! :p

BTW, my entire job loves Taylor, ages 27 - 63, so it's not really age but preference. That guy has soul no matter how you look at it.

As for preference, you like Chris and I wouldn't dare ask what demographic you fall in, it's your choice. For the Kellie lovers I wanted to ask what GENDER you were but I do understand if you just like her because that's your choice... :rotfl:

Katharine, as gorgeous as she is, is not a gender bender, she doesn't embarass the female world everytime she opens her mouth, either.

I beg to differ, she IS a kid. As for immaturity, she handled being in the bottom 2 or 3 like a champ and continued to be professional no matter what. For a 'kid' she handled "rejection" and disappointment better than some adults I know. I know 40 year olds who still stomp when things don't go their way.....

I thought the gum thing was priceless... and Ryan's face? :lmao:

Part of the Little House series is now out on DVD. And I believe the series is being shown on the Hallmark Channel. So it is out there is you are wanting to show it to your little ones.

I would love to see Elliot make it to the top three---I believe he has had less "off" weeks compared to Kat--And he has shown he can handle whatever music is called for whereas Kat has only ballads every single week except for her second song last night
I knew E was in trouble because just about everytime I called I was able to get thru so I sat and voted for him thru the entire episode of HOUSE which totaled 109 votes--My DH laughed when the revealed who was going home and said I single handedly kept him in--LOL--But this is the boys year and I honestly don't feel Kat should be in the bottom 3 for doing nothing--Yes she can sing don't get me wrong BUT when they say this week we are doing this type of music and she's up there doing the same thing every week it wears thin after a while so my votes will go to E to try to keep him in for another week where he deserves to be!

Yep, I couldn't believe how overt they were with that!

Here's your top three, but oh yeah, Paris and Elliott are still around.
Hmm... we'd better let them sing a little snippet, let's just be sure to keep them off to the side or behind our top three at all times.

I'm one of what seems to be a minority here who really likes Elliott. :thumbsup2
Or maybe it's just that some of the folks who don't like him tend to be a bit in your face about it - I don't know. :confused3

But I don't think it matters much since I agree that next week is pretty much a done deal and Elliott will be the one to go.
:sad2:

My prediction: Taylor will definitely be in the final two and I'll be voting for either Chris or Kat to win against him. (I'm guessing Chris will be the one to make it - but I won't count Kat out yet)

I've just never gotten the Taylor love thing, but realize I'm very much in the minority there.

and guess who was singing the star spangled banner??

I don't really get the Taylor thing either. When he auditioned I thought he was different and fairly talented. I never thought he would make it as long as he did. I think he is an okay singer, but a horrible dancer. I get distracted by his forced movements.

I don't think it was gum that Paris handed to Ryan, I think it was a cough drop. Not that it matters...it was still gross. I'm one that never really "got" Paris...well, not that I don't think she's talented. I just don't care for her voice. And she always over did things a little for me.

By the way...my DD (5) loves Little House on the Prairie. It comes on TVLAND here. I have also read some of the books to her (the picture book versions of them).

Ayla should still be in this competition before Elliott, Paris and dare I say Kellie....I really liked Ayla

One good thing about Paris leaving is that people can sto saying how much they can't stand her singing anymore.

This could have been written by me.

I think it is very obvious that Elliot is the one with a voice -- Chris and Kat, they are more "American Idolic" if you will, the kind that will appeal to the masses in a more Mariah Carey kind of way.

Taylor - he seems like such a nice guy and I'm tickled for his success -- but I don't get it at all -- people are going to be going out in droves to buy his albums??? :confused3 I doubt it.

I'm so happy Elliot has made it this far. He's the real talent.
