I just rewatched the show from last night and I have to comment on Katharine McPhee's dress. (I should first tell you that I am a fan of Taylor and Chris and my comments are not impartial.) I think the whole dress malfunction was done on purpose.

1) She appears to give the dress a light tug on her left thigh to "help" it pop a few buttons.

2) If any buttons were going to pop on that dress, I think the ones at the top would definitely have gone first. It was so tight that her breast looked like they were half exposed anyway.

3) I think it is strange that you would just happen to have on yellow panties in that exact shade unless you were planning on exposing yourself.

I know this shouldn't matter if we were only judging them on tallent, but some of you have been so hard on Kellie Pickler being fake and succeeding on other than her singing ability that I think it is fair to examine the other contestants tactics. It is sad that a woman thinks that she can't succeed without resorting to risque behavior.

I really doubt it was on purpose-- It didn't help Janet Jackson IMO... especially with her Dad in the audience. I would hope that she realizes that she shouldn't have to "compete" with Kellie. Kellie is entertaining but she is not going to win... Kat has a much better chance of winning or a career in singing even if she doesn't win than Kellie. I like Kellie but they are not in the same ballpark.

You may not think Elliott looks great and he may not be polish, but to say he sucks? That's just ignorant IMHO. He has a great voice, and doesn't deserve to go home.

The fact that Kellie is still around and will outlast people like Sway and Mandisa by so much is an outright travesty.

Why is it "ignorant" for a poster to say Elliott sucks, but o.k. for you to say Kellie is horrible and a joke?

I think both of them are good, certainly better than most of America -- and if they weren't, they never would have made it this far.

Katherine's "dress malfunction" was certainly not planned, and for anyone to suggest that it was is ridiculous. HOWEVER, the wardrobe people probably knew there was a chance that her "slit-up-to-there" dress (held closed by a few flimsy buttons) might be too revealing and instructed her to dress accordingly underneath...just in case. But to suggest that Kat tugged her own dress apert (which she did NOT do. I watched it too...over and over) is a laughable theory at best. It appeared that she "squated" on her one thigh and that popped the button. Frankly, even is it was planned, good on her!

the real question is, now that Kat and Kellie are roomies and buds, how will Kat react when Kellie gets the boot tonight? BTW Kat DID look super peeved during the post song interview with Ryan. She doesn't take criticism well at all.

Sorry, but I think you are mistaken. If you rewatch the video, she pulls on her dress AFTER the button popped. I'll admit that she didn't seem too concerned that it popped, but if it had happened to me and I was wearing appropriate underwear, I'd have probably shrugged it off as well. It was only the bottom button and really, did we see anything more than we would have seen if she were in a swimsuit with a cover-up on?

DH and I both noticed that and commented on it. I think that she felt that she really nailed the song and the comments surprised her. To me, her look was more surprise than mad. I may be wrong, though. To be honest, I was surprised by the judges' comments too. I probably had the same facial expression that she had during that comment time.

OK, I obviously make no bones about liking Kellie. I do not expect her to win. In fact, based on talent alone --- and NOTHING ELSE --- I think she should be gone by now. But talent alone isn't what AI is all about.

Case in point: You all know I work for FOX by now, I guess. So last night, while at work in the control room I am sitting near a 55+ year old guy who thinks Kellie should win. He hears Kellie sing that song. I am not looking at him. As soon as the song was over I hear him say "Beautiful".

I look over at him and say " Her or the way she did the song?"

He says "Both"......

And then later on I find out that he has his wife calling in and voting for Kellie 10x EVERY SHOW, regardless of how she was.

I completely agree with you. I rewatched it on TIVO also and she touched her hip area AFTER the button popped. I don't think it is weird for her to have yellow underwear on, my daughter always matches her underwear with whatever outfit she is wearing, esp for prom and stuff. All her friends do too....

I actually think Katherine became very self conscious after the button popped and I think it distracted her a bit. As for her seeming upset at the judges, I personally think they were exceptionally hard on her and I think she was on the verge of tears and was trying to hold them in.

I'm wondering if they were rough on Katharine to bump her votes. She did go first and could easily get overshadowed by the other contestants. I know Simon does this all the time to either play up or down the votes so maybe they were concerned for her.

Her performance wasn't anywhere near as bad as they made it out to be or her attitude anywhere near as conceited as they made it out to be.

This was just posted on the AI forums but was deleted before I could read past page one. Luckily I got a screen shot:

up until recently I worked behind the scenes for AI> I started in the middle of season 2. I recently quit my job for personal reasons. Part of that reason was due to some of the unfair things that occur which you fans may or may not be aware of. This season, the producer's decided before the auditions they were looking for a rock or alt/rock singer to fill the gap and appeal to a broader audience. With Bo not winning last season, they wanted to compensate in some form, as well as make their mark in the alt rock market while still maintaining their core audience. Enter Chris Daughtry. While Simon internally was not sold about his marketability, the producer's were dead set on Chris being this year's "One". Simon had no choice but to come around, and he too eventually jumped on that idea. The plan was always to have a guy/guy finale, much like Ruben Clay in season 2. Taylor, was thought to be that person. Along the way came 2 people that are cramping that plan. Enter, Katharine, Elliott. 2 unforeseen obstacles of the AI powers. They are going back and forth on whether to replace Taylor with Elliott, but are set against Katharine, despite her receiving the second highest vote total the last 2 weeks. Thehy know she can sing really well, but this goes against Nigel and Ken's male vs. make planned finale. This is why you witnessed the scathing remarks last night made to her by all the judges. Those remarks were actually scripted following her rehearsal by the AI brass! No matter how she sang the song, those were the remarks they were told to make about her performance. I know this because I have a few good friends that still work behind the scenes, and no I can't name names but they informed me of the "work" yesterday. I'm only writing about some of the unfair things that go on with the show in hopes of bringing some awareness to you, the audience. All I can say is don't be surprised if their chosen one does in fact end up winning. I witnessed season 3 the night fantasia was in the bottom 2, she actually garnered less votes than Latoya that night! You guessed it, she was Simon and the producer's pick so they kept her in there! Season 2, I won't go too far into that one, but let's just say Ruben's win had a little something to do with compensating for Frenchie being dropped from the show. It was a way to quiet the controversy of that decision. I hope you will read what I've written with an open mind, as I know the post probably won't remain on here long. The truth tends to go missing on these boards so I hope I was able to help some viewer's realize what is in the works here!

Josh Gracin had the lowest number of votes for WEEKS before they finally dismissed him. They wanted Trenyce gone due to her past. Therefore Simon dissed her on her best night ever! She and Ruben hit the bottom two that week and she trounced him. She sang all over him! There was no comparison at all!

Actually, you're 100% correct about what you said about Trenyce. How did you know this? When the producer's caught wind about Trenyce's brushes with the law, they mutually agreed it was time for her to "leave". ALso if you remember at that time we had just went to war and it was politically approrriate to have a marine on the show if you know what I'm saying. Trenyce did in fact have approximately 200,000 more votes than Josh Gracin. I won't even go into the margin of votes that Clay had over Ruben, but let's say it's not under 1 million!!

Only one button popped. Nothing more was opened after that one button. She put her hand down but did not grab her dress. She did step forward and that step opened the dress so that the low camera caught a glimpse of her undies.

Really, is this such an issue? First of all everyone is complaining because she is dressing like she is pregnant, then too matronly and now she shows a little skin and all of a sudden she is a brazen hussy. Geez, did we see anything? No. Everyone except Taylor and Elliott have tried to exude a little sexuality and Kellie a lot of sexuality. I don't get what the big deal is with a button pop.

Tarmand, I don't believe there are any conspiracy theories on idol. I think the judges and producers may try to manipulate the voting but that is as far as it goes.

I think that it's sad that most people have believed that Kellie should go home for the past two weeks, yet also think that Paris will go home instead. Just goes to show that AI isn't soley based on singing talent (like it should be). And to all of you who aren't familiar with Donny Hathaway - welcome to the fan club. A Song For You has been my favorite song for years! He's also famous for "The Christmas Song" (Hang all the mistletoe, I'm gonna get to know you better - This Christmas). Because Donny Hathaway has a following (albeit underground), A Song For You , when sung well, can be very touching. I understood Paula's emotion for the performance, although I do believe she needs to lay off the generic drugs and go for the brand name ones

I missed Katherine's performance, but I agree, it most likely wasn't a big deal. The past couple of weeks on this thread show how passionately people seem to be about who wins this show. For me it really isn't a big deal. Who wins, wins, why do I really care whether its, Chris, Taylor, Elliott, Katherine, or yes even Paris or Kellie. They all obviously have thier fans, AND they all sing way better than I could ever. I'm just sitting here amazed at all the strong words against one participant or the other, Hate, sucked, you name it. I guess it really doesn't rank up their high enough in my book to get so heated about it. Too me they are all human beings trying to realize their dreams! More power to them.
