American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

I think I've almost come out of mourning after Ace's elimination on Wednesday night. So now I've rejoined the thread, and apologize in advance if someone has already posted it, (and it really won't help me out of my lovesick depression), but if you go onto www.cnn.com, and click on the Entertainment tab, you'll find an article about Ace's elimination. There you can scroll down in the article and click on the link to the part of the show where they announced he was leaving, and then watch the great video montage of Ace's journey on AI. I just watched it three times, made my son watch it, then watched it again. I think I need a drink! Who am I going to vote for now? I think I'll start over with a clean slate and just vote based on their performances every week, rather than sticking with a favorite. It's too cruel to get attached! :guilty:

She's not ringing a bell at all---though mighty good memory for you to remember her.

I really don't remember her per se, but I do remember Simon's comment to

her about how wide her mouth was open when she was singing.

One of my favourite love songs of all time is Gordon Lightfoot's If You Could Read my Mind. Kalan did an awesome version on Canadian Idol.

I think all of the contestants could do it justice. It is a very emotional song.

Still, by Lionel Richie is also very pretty. If you click on Kalan's picture below, I've linked to his version.

I have nothin'... just wanted to be post 5000 in thread. LOL... well 5000th reply!

I'm still so bummed. :sad1: I still think the voting is unfair. I heard that some local companies in Kellie's town were donating free texting for voters. That would explain why she was not in the bottom 3 last week on the worst performance ever. I just love Chris and Ace, they're my faves, and were roommates. Did you see the videos I placed on an earlier post? I will still be voting non-stop for Chris, but it just be the same next week. :sad1:

I'm going to miss Ace, and this week would have been perfect for him! I know a lot here didn't like his voice, but I enjoyed listening to him. Of course I like the boy bands too, so maybe I don't have all that great a taste in music :confused3 .

I haven't really done a lot of voting this year, but I might have to start this week.

As for love songs, I know they said classic live songs...but who defines what "classic" is? I wonder if there will be a very short list to choose from like they had with Broadway last year.

awah..... :grouphug: Remember, it's only the beginning of his career, not the end! These kids are going to "be" who their ment to "be" regardless of their placing on this show. AI is great exposure, but it's not their entire career! I'm sure we'll see great things from Ace in the future! :goodvibes

Well, that wasn't too helpful, was it? :confused3

As for what they said for Chris, I can't picture it...that would be a real departure I would think. I could have seen Ace doing it, not Chris!

I agree with the song that's being guessed for Chris but that was the first song that came to my mind also with the hint.

I love when you post these video clips of Kalan Porter. My God!! That boy can sing! Why isn't he on American radio? I just don't get it. When I watch and listen to the video clips I almost have to look away because I fall in love with his voice then feel like an OLD perv when I look and see how young he is (OLD being the key word there!)

hahahahah

i hear ya. what a talent!! I love his voice! does he have a cd out? I don't know what it is about his voice but it is so sooothing. wow. I am so impressed!!! How old is this kid? I am feeling like a perv too! hehehe i love that curley hair!!

I am doing my best to introduce Kalan to the USA, one person at a time!!! Kalan's album which comes out this summer will be promoted in the US. His first album was produced in about six weeks (you know, the crappy idol version) and although it was okay, it certainly didn't show Kalan off at all.

He is 21 in November, so you dont' have to feel like a perv! He certainly is camera friendly and had all of Canada in love with him. With Canadian Idol, just the winner does a tour and he was totally sold out throughout the country. We are anxiously awaiting for this new album that he has been working on for the past year. Hopefully, there will be some good stuff on it. He also is an amazing violin player and we should hear some of that incorporated into his rock stuff. He's a good kid and should be around for a while.

Thanks for asking!

Here is a clip of one of the group performances featuring Kalan singing and playing violin. It is a Gordon Lightfoot song.

This performance, is IMHO, the best group performance ever and brings tears to my eyes to watch it. To have the contestants all featured on an instrument as well as vocally sure brought a new dimension to the show. These six performers were all absolutely amazing.
