American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

Top 3.....Taylor, Katherine and Paris(did I say Paris)

bottom 3....based on what I thought....Mandissa, Ace, Elliott

Who will be in bottom 3....Bucky, Lisa, Elliott

Going hope Bucky

would Love to see Elliot go

I know Dialidol hasn't been on the money the last couple of times but it is interesting that right now all but three are red!!! only 3 aren't and it isn't the 3 I would have picked by the singing but by the popularity...

My top three favorites tonight: Taylor, Paris, and yes - Bucky! He was hot tonight!

My bottom three: Ace, Kellie and Lisa. All three were really bad!

I was surprised the judges gave Katherine so much praise - I didn't think she sounded all that great. Chris is normally one of my favorites, but all he did was scream the song tonight, and I think Simon got it right. He needs to change it up because he's sounding the same every week! And was it me, or did he seem to get a little attitudey with the judges? He seemed real into himself!

Maybe Chris is confused about what the judges/Simon want from him?
Just last week S praised him for always staying true to his style and this week S says that he needs to change it up to stay in the competition.
:confused3

I'm sure it's a fine line, but I know I'd like to see something a bit different where Chris is concerned.

Overall I thought the show was a yawn.

I'm not a huge voter anyway - but I didn't even bother tonight as I didn't really care one way or another.

Elliot. Is. No. Bo. Bice.
You guys keep saying that, why?
Whenever you sing a song on AI that has been sung on the show before, you'll invariably first be compared to that previous performance. While it isn't reasonable to expect that an undiscovered talent will consistently be better than the original artist who made a song popular, it is reasonable to expect that an undiscovered talent will consistently be better than the previous undiscovered talent who sung the song on the show.

I went into tonight’s show believing I wouldn’t know many or even any of the songs that would be performed. The final tally was 2, possible 3 out of ten. So I decided to just listen to the pitch and rhythm. Even when you don’t know the song, you can still have a pretty good idea of when someone is in tune. I also took into consideration how they looked on stage and whether they were making a connection with those watching in my house. Let’s face it, someone could come out and clean a toilet for the Idol audience and they’d be jumping up and down. Here’s my take on what stands out on the worst show I’ve seen in my two years of watching AI.

Lisa: Way too much song for this girl’s voice and I had written than down last night before Simon said it to her at the end of her performance. So this is what Kelly Clarkson sings?? Maybe it was the way Lisa presented it but, ewwww, what a terrible piece of music.
Just dreadful all the way, she gets a 2

Kellie: I was hoping for another blow me away performance from her like last week but instead got a cutsie offering that did nothing to remind me of the great voice she showed us in the last show. I mean, Suds in the Bucky, erm, Bucket, really, who cares? I like country music but if you want to win this show, you don’t sing something like that. Pitchy in spots and perhaps a bit too low for her voice, still she looked a lot better makeup and hair wise than last week, I gave her a 5.

Ace: At last, a song I was familiar with. Well, I’ve heard it at least once or twice. Unfortunately all I could think of when he took the stage was what the Hell happened to his hair! It looked like he had time warped back to the 1920’s when they use to make spit curls with bobby pins! Once I got over that shocking transformation and settled down to listen to the song, I was more or less under whelmed. An OK but not great performance and thankfully not falsetto.
Just OK with me dude, I gave him a 6

Taylor: Taylor came out onstage looking like a star for the first time this week. Hot! Hot!! Hot!!! The song, on the other hand, was lukewarm. Singing Trouble, it pretty much lived up to its name. Not a terrible piece but another that just left me looking for something positive to say. This morning I’m still looking. More under control than in all the other weeks combined, Paula was right on with her observation on how it was nice to see him just stand there and sing.
Not because it was this good but because it was so much better than the other performances of the night, Taylor gets an 8.

Mandisa: Every week I’ve raved about what a great voice I think she has as long as she keeps the screaming at a minimum. My dismay was huge when she came out and nearly screamed an entire song. While I’m all for making a joyful noise unto the Lord, this was just too much. Little to no melody and way too many theatrics just turned me off.
Mandisa has been in my top three nearly every week but not this time, she gets a 4.

Chris: For only the second time this season, I had to mute a performance. This was the same thing we’ve seen from him in all the weeks except the Dead or Alive one. Screaming, the mad face, the whole angry young man persona, I’m just tired of it all. I was happy to see that for the most part the judges weren’t any more taken in by his theatrics than I was.
Copping the lowest score I’ve given this season, Chris gets a 1 and that’s given as long as you show up.

Katharine: Can this girl get any more boring? Singy, singy, bouncy, bouncy and a strange outfit. I found her pitchy throughout most of the song. Really nothing more to say about that offering, I think I may have fallen asleep during the middle of it.
She gets a 3.

Bucky: After all of these less than great performances, I was nearly in tears dreading the fact that Bucky would be next. Well, surprise, surprise, he sang a catchy tune that actually had me turning up the volume. While diction lessons would certainly help him, he was in tune and interesting to watch.
Certainly his best presentation to date, I gave him a 7.

Paris: Representing the Street Walkers guild, Paris looked as fresh as yesterdays trash. Sorry but I don’t want to see a 17 year old telling me she’s doing something young and fresh and coming out on stage like that. I will give her props for her voice though but she loses points for finishing the song 10 seconds after the band did.
She gets a 7.

Elliott: It’s always a risk to do a song that was done the year before and especially by someone like Bo. Singing I Don’t Wanna Be wasn’t Elliott’s best option. It was OK but just not great. I found his constant bobbing annoying and he seemed to lose the rhythm from time to time. But this was one of the better offerings on this dismal night so Elliott gets an 8.

Who I voted for:
Taylor
Elliott
Let me tell you, I almost didn’t vote for anyone.

Who I think will be going home, in order:
Lisa
Katharine
Bucky

Who I’d like to see go home, in order:
Katharine
Lisa
Chris

As always, JMHO. :teeth:

I must have missed it... what did Chris say about Walk the Line?

Thanks!!

I liked Mandisa, Taylor and Paris...I Hated Ace and Elliot....Chris is great for a rock band singer but thats ALL he can do....I would like to see Bucky go home, he has no business being in the top 10!

Elliot fan here really really mad at herself that she doesn't understand the *&$#@! Tivo well enough to have taped AI last night. :furious:
I taped it for one time and thought I'd done a season's pass, so I go out to dinner, came home thinking, oh boy can't wait to watch!!

Anyway, sorry if the answer is buried in this thread, but is there a way to watch the performances online?

And a question for those who like Elliot (please don't tell me he sucked if you think he always sucks), how do you think he held up last night?

I looked at Dial Idol this morning and am so concerned for Bucky. It seemed that a lot of us liked him last night. Did anyone else vote? I don't usually vote, but I did for Bucky for over an hour last night. We were watching it on DVR and my 2-year old kept saying "Watch Bucky again!" so we'd rewind it. I know we watched him 15 times at least. :)

Ohh,what a night! (and not in a good way)

The only performances I liked (no love) were Taylor's, Katherine's and even Ace. (I'm probably in the minority there)

Just ok for me, but barely were:
Bucky, Paris (I liked it better than any of her other numbers - I'm not a fan)
Elliott, Lisa

Really bad: I hate to say it but:
Chris and Mandisa(could've been better if not for the screaming)

Kellie - first time ever this bad for me - even doing Suds in the Bucket, which I like, she didn't show much energy.

I can't even say who will be going home. It could be someone unexpected from my botton three or Bucky or Lisa.

My top 2:

Elliot
Taylor

Bottom 3:

Ace
Bucky
Lisa

Tonights show was really boring. I hope everyone steps it up next week.

I agree...That is a great upbeat song by Sarah Evans....and really the song that made me fall in love with Sarah.... but Kellie showed no life...when I heard that she was singing it I was excited.....she just seemed tight and nervous....She looked wonderful though...and was not the worst of the night and should be safe.

Go here: Elliott's Performance

Most, if not all, of the other performances are on that site too. Just poke around and you'll find them.

HTH! :goodvibes

I've been watching DialIdol this year and they've been all over the place so I'm not worried just yet. I won't be all that upset if he gets voted off though because I really just wanted him in the top 10. The trouble is that none of the other contestants really interest me! :confused3

i love elliott - he is my second favorite, after taylor. i thought he was great last night - good song choice. some people thought bo's version last year was better but i don't even remember that he did it :confused3 i tried to vote for him several times but couldn't get through....not for taylor either! frustrating....
