Iiiiiiiiiiiiitttttttttttttttsssssssssssssss IDOL TIME!!
Top 13 are chosen and it's time to get to the big show! Here's my thoughts on tonight's Stevie/Whitney theme:
JOSHUA: "Days Come Back Once More"...I love this song and I think it will suit Joshua's voice well. He could be a bit louder (the music is almost overpowering him). There's something a bit off-putting about his stage mannerisms. but he is doing a great job on the song. I wish he'd make it a bit more original somehow though. Overall...
ELISE: "I'm Your Baby Tonight"...at least this Whitney song isn't done to death. It seems to suit the low smokey tone of her voice. She's doing very well, but it has a very smokey-piano-bar-lounge-act feel to it. Also, her posture is awful. If you can't stand up straight and if you have large ta-tas like that then you can't wear a dress like that. It was a good effort, and hopefully will get her through to next week, but it could've been better.
JERMAINE: "Knocks Me Off My Feet"...He's adorable, but I wouldn't want to listen to this on the radio or my ipod. He's no Barry White or Luther Vandross. It's mediocre. Sorry I know lots of you like him, but not me. Plus his song was about 45 seconds long. I don't get him.
ERIKA: "I Believe In You And Me"...She has such a unique tone to her voice (I thought a man was singing for a moment at one point). I like that she isn't trying to sound like Whitney and I like that she has curves! She looks great and really sounds clean and beautiful.
COLTON: "Lately"...not my favorite Stevie jam. This is starting off a little a-tonal. He's slurring the lyrics together...it's okay to ennunciate. Getting better as he belts. I think he'll be popular with the young girl vote. Aaaaand he's got a falsetto. Trying to compete with Deandre..smart.
SHANNON: "I Have Nothing"...For starters she should be in a gown. This is a torch song. The music is louder than she is and she's a bit flat...and rushing. SO much for Mary J's advice. It's not bad, but it's not special. It's a bit High School talent show for me. Aaaand then she butchered a bunch of notes on her last part of the song. Yikes. I take it back...she was bad.
DEANDRE: "Master Blaster"...this is probably a great choice for him. It's nice to hear HIS voice and not the false. He's having a bit of an issue at the chorus/fast part, but overall it's quite good though I wish he'd do something with the song so it wasn't such a replica (and the weak falsetto at the end wasn't what I was talking about). Not bad at all though.
SKYLAR: "Where Do Broken Hearts Go"...wonder if this will become a country song...yup. Well for sure her strength lies in her ability to belt. She's not my favorite, but this is not bad, particularly the back half of this song.
HEEJUN: "All In Is Fair In Love"...(Have I said how much I adore him and his sense of humor? I have? Good...now let's listen...) He really does a have a beautiful voice. He just needs to enunciate a bit more. I dunno, I just HEART him so much. Him and his funny bone and his voice. (and he bows to the musicians!)
HOLLY: "All The Man That I Need"...This is quite good, but soooo boring. She isn't doing anything to make this unique or "hers". It's beautiful karaoke. VERY beautiful. But so snooze-worthy. Like Pia was last year.
JEREMY: "Ribbon In The Sky"...snoooooooze. I think this song gets done every year on idol. He's a cutie pie but I don't want to listen to him on the radio or buy his music. This is good but so boring. COme on people...make the stuff unique somehow! Grumble. Changing key isn't enough. This is actually weak.
JESSICA: "I Will Always Love You"...UGH! This song should be banned on ALL singing shows. Really it has been done and overdone and done again. We don't need to hear it again. It's self-indulgent. Now she has a VOICE. She is GOOOD. Darn good. So she doesn't need to do this song. But it really is terrific vocally. I wish she'd do something to make it new somehow. Perhaps the strongest of the women singers on the show.
PHIL: "Superstition"..HECK YEAH! I was praying he'd do this song. I hope he nails it. Little rockabilly up in there. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAHHHHH! We gotta get this kid fronting a band, like NOW. I want to rock out to this foreva!
Everyone did really good, so I'm going to just say who was on the bottom:
SHANNON
JEREMY
Jermaine
Elise
I think Shannon was the absolute worst by a country mile and should go home. G'night all!
