NBC reports that the computer system is back online and flights will resume at 5 pm. Best of luck to anyone caught in this mess.

It is going to be quite a while before this is all worked out. Pack your patience. And remember screaming at a Gate Agent does not help.

AA was very proactive on Facebook and other social media keeping people in the know. I learned of all this on Facebook and they were doing the best they can. Lots of people were commenting from airports with praise for gate agents and how they were handling things....

This is just yet another reason to say that "nobody does it better than American Airlines"

I must admit I am impressed how quickly they dealt with the problem. That was a major problem and it was all over the news for a while (obviously behind other events). By this morning it wasn't even being mentioned in most news I saw. That's no comfort to anyone caught in this yesterday, but they kept it from cascading into a worse problem.

That's because the news is completely dominated by coverage of the bombings in Boston.
