OK, so some people won't be caught dead in a value resort, while others love them. I have stayed in a Value (Pop Century) and at the Deluxe (Polynesian) and for the life of me can't figure out why people dread the value so much. Really the only difference I could see was the room size was smaller, and the hotel was themed differently.

Can someone tell me what amenities I was missing that the Value resorts don't have that the moderate and deluxe do?

Thanks~

The deluxes (most) offer more transportation options and are located closer to the parks. Dining options are also more diverse at the deluxe and moderates.

The values are a lot smaller inside the rooms, beds are smaller, bathrooms are smaller. The walls also seem a heck of a lot thinner or maybe the guests are just a lot louder? :confused3

Like you, I love the deluxe, moderate, and value resorts at Disney.

Since it is just me and my seven year old daughter travelling, I do not mind the smaller rooms.

There are two things I do miss at the value resorts. Though, they do not keep me from staying there.

  1. I miss having a slide at the swimming pool. That's important--we have some of our best laughs coming down the slide at the pool.
  2. And when we travel in the heat of August, I miss having a covered area to line up for the bus.

I have stayed at all three types, and it seems to me the higher you go (from value to mod to deluxe), you get less options as far as food court. There are more Sit down places to eat.

Personally, I love the value resorts. That said, some deluxe/ mod advantages:
- transportation: IME, the monorails and boats aren't always faster, but it is nice to change it up and not be riding buses every time (and of course, there is the ability to walk to 2 parks from the Epcot resorts)
- pool slides and hot tubs
- interior corridors - this is not actually something I care about when at Disney, but in the real world I don't stay at hotels with the exterior entrances
- room service - also not something I personally care about; but important to many
- covered waiting area for the buses - not a deal breaker for me; but nice to have in inclement weather and/or the mid-day summer scorchers
- food - if sit-down restaurants are important to you, then the deluxes can accommodate that need
- other resort activities depending on the resort (boat rentals, kids' clubs, etc...)

Couple advantages the values have over the deluxes
- arcades - not true of all the resorts, but generally the values win this one
- food courts - the values and the mods have a lot more choices for CS food options if this is something your family is interested in
- price (of course!)

Probably repeating most things... but things that Deluxe has that Value does not:

-rooms with balconies/patios
-rooms with interior corridors (not doors to the outside)
-slide at pool
-hot tub
-TS restaurants - usually a signature and a non sig
-more transportation options than the bus (boat, walking, monorail)
-two queen beds in a room
-some rooms also have daybeds
-coffee makers
-fridge

Moderates have all of the above except they have one non-sig TS restaurant, their rooms have exterior doors with no balconies/patios, and bus only transportation.

Thanks, everyone!

I just asked this in another post, too, but does anyone know what the square footage is in the Pop, Art of Animation, or Port Orleans standard rooms?

Besides bus transportation, POR and POFQ has the boat ride to Downtown Disney! :) This is one of the reason why I love Port Orleans!

260 for Pop, 314 for Port Orleans
I don't know about the suites at AoA. I would assume the standard rooms in the Little Mermaid section are the same as Pop.

the values now have fridges.
we actually prefer the exterior corridors. we like to step out to see the sunset (or in hubby's case sunrise) , i you are not facing it,walk a bit one way or the other)

the deluxes do lack good CS, (we don't care for the food court at CBR, either, or pepper market at CSR) but the values the the POR resorts have great food courts.

I do miss the slide and hot tubs. (POFQ slide is not worth even mentioning..)

I, too like them all. we change it up every trip.. that'
s what's so great!

Aside from what is already mentioned, there is the beautiful landscaping at the mods and deluxe, that you don't get at the values. I love walking around the paths at POR and the deluxe, I find it relaxing, pretty and peaceful.
In general I find the mods and deluxe quieter, and more relaxing.

There's also the wow effect of walking into the beautiful lobbies of the deluxe resorts. I love sitting on the rocking chairs in front of the fire place at WL.
There is no wow walking into the lobby of the values.

We also spend a fair amount of time at the resort, like to take an afternoon break at the pool.

We tried the Allstars once and my biggest complaint was the seemingly endless wait for the buses in the hot sun. We also had to wait in long lines when we left a park at closing and once we grabbed a taxi when we were hit by a thunderstorm. The Allstar bus line was extremely long and everyone was drenched and angry. None of this has ever happened to us when we stayed at the other resorts.

Also, the Allstars were noisy and crowded. It seemed like people were everywhere at all hours and we had trouble ordering in the food court. I also missed not having a real restaurant handy.

The other values might be different but I don't plan on going back to the Allstars at the very least.

The main barrier for the value/moderate resorts for us is the exterior entrances. We also enjoy spending time at the resort and utilize room service and valet frequently. I don't believe those are offered at the value resorts( having not stayed in any I certainly could be wrong). We also like having a spa and health club onsite.

Deluxes have bell men, valet, room service and will pick up and return you laundry. You have your own patio or balcony.

Mods have the laundry thing.

They both have larger rooms. They both lack the garish surroundings at the Values.

I've stayed in all of them and wouldn't mind being dead in any of them. ;) Alive, though, I prefer the extra room, service and calmer surroundings.

Thanks everyone. We are rarely at the hotel, other than to sleep, and I think December will be too cold to use the pools anyway. I think we will stick to the value. Our disney vacation is all about the parks. As long as the room is clean, that's the biggest thing for us.

We're staying at our first value this Summer- and after staying at mods and deluxes and knowing what amenities WONT be at Pop, the only thing that bothers me is the lack of cover at the bus stop. I just think to myself, C'mon Disney, you cant give us shade/rain coverage at the resort? IDK, I just know my luck, and since we're going in August-it wouldnt surprise me a bit to get hit w/ a Summer storm while waiting for the bus:sad2:

There is shelter at the Pop bus stops, with benches, but the shelters are not covering the line/que. Theyre a few steps back. If its raining, you will get wet while waiting in line for the bus. However this is what i do, and what others do as well: just wait under the shelter....when the bus pulls up, then get in line. but you better run like mad woman if you wanna beat the rush thou! Lol! Or you can just bring an umbrella/poncho with you, and wait in the rain. I've done that as well.

Having stayed at all levels.... My only problem with Values are small beds...

Both Mods and Deluxe have slides and hot tub... The only big for me personally between MOD and Deluxe is the location and theming....

I find that the bus service at Pop is pretty timely, so standing in the sun waiting for a bus has never been much of a problem for us. Also, maybe it's because we go in the off season but we just sit back on the covered benches and wait for the bus to pull up and then get into the line. We've never had to beat a mad dash to the line or even missed a bus for not standing in the bus queue. I can't remember if the All Star resorts had covered benches outside of the bus queue to sit at while waiting... but I'm fairly sure they did.
Our one and only stay at a Mod was at CBR and I absolutely dreaded the bus system there. Never again, unless we rent a car. And we once (yes, once but that totally turned me off to BW) waited 45 minutes for a bus to DTD after touring The Boardwalk. Blah! Never had experiences like that at our value resort. :confused3

The smaller rooms and beds have never bothered us.. maybe because we're only two people but even when we had 4 adults in one value room it still wasn't that bad. All we do is sleep there, maybe take a nap between the morning and afternoon but that is it.

I also like the food court style eating at the Values. Often times we're looking for a quick meal so we can hit the parks, even while in the parks we're mostly quick service. We do very few table service meals while at Disney.
