Calif. Cops Search For Kidnapped San Bernardino Boy

Authorities in California are searching for a kidnapped 3-year-old boy who was taken at gunpoint from his San Bernardino, Calif. home.

Briant Rodriguez was surrounded by his mother and siblings on May 3, 2009, when police say two armed men burst into the house and ransacked their home.

The suspects, both Hispanic men, tied up Briant's mother and his four siblings. The gunmen fled with some stolen property, an undisclosed amount of money, and Briant.

Cops say that they believe the Rodriguez family and the gunmen were not acquaintances.

Police tell AMW that the gunmen told the family that they were taking Briant to Mexico.

One of the gunmen is 18 to 20 years old, with a thin build, and was last seen wearing a black baseball hat, blue jeans, and a green t-shirt.

The second suspect is described as about 24 years old with a thin build and was last seen wearing a black shirt, black boots -- possibly made of alligator -- and a white bandanna over his face.

Briant Rodriguez, 3, is 3 feet tall, weighs 40 lbs., and has long, brown curly hair. He was last seen wearing a yellow t-shirt with blue sleeves, blue striped shorts with two different shades of blue, and black sandals.

How sad! Do they have any insight why they took just the one particular child???

I'm praying that they let him go safely in the U.S.

Please anyone in Ca and those areas keep an eye out for this little guy.

Here's a photograph of the missing boy, I hope he is found safe and sound *soon*.

They have been playing the story heavily here on the news. I hate to say it, but something doesn't sit right with this story. I hope I am wrong and that the child is returned safe and unharmed. But it just doesn't feel right to me.

I agree that something smells fishy about this...Why would they just take a random 3 year old boy. It seems like a revenge type thing to me-maybe gang related? It just seems too unlikely too be random.

Random or not they said they were planning on taking the boy to mexico and killing him. :sad1:

Lets keep this on the first page for all to see.

I've been thinking the same thing. Something just sounds really off with this story.

Oh man, I hadn't heard about that. I hope it's not true. :sad2:

This reminds me of a case in Austin, TX that happened not long ago. A car pulled up to a driveway and grabbed a 5 y.o. boy out of the family's vehicle. The family claimed there was no reason they would be targeted. They were not rich by any means. Oddly, the 5 y.o. boy had not been the original target....his 10 y.o. sister was, but the kidnapper went to the wrong side of the vehicle and thus, got the wrong kid.

Turns out, the family did have a reason to be targeted. The father owed money to his cousin (drug debt or something) and the cousin enlisted some of his buddies to kidnap one of the kids as a way to make the dad pay up. This tactic has moved north of the border. The police didn't buy the "random kidnapping" angle and quickly solved the case. They boy was back safe and sound with his family in short order. I hope his father learned that getting into "debt" can be a bad idea. :rolleyes1

When that Austin story broke, I thought something sounded off. This story is not passing the sniff test either. I could be wrong, but people who break in to steal from you rarely take a 3 y.o. for grins. It slows them down and makes them a big old target for police. No, this sounds like a message being sent or something very personal.

I am also a bit confused why they are calling this an Amber Alert. They have no car description and haven't posted a plate at all. I thought that was what Amber Alerts were for.

They have shown the mother on tv, and the father has stayed out saying "no comment". I find that a bit wierd. I just keep going back to why this family? why this time of day? why this child and not one of the others? and why didn't they take more valuables if it was a break in? Still doesn't sit right.

One of the previous posters had mentioned debt and payback. One of the radio news shows said the same thing. They stated they wouldn't be surprised to find out it was payback or revenge.

Count me in the 'sounds fishy' category. Robbers don't normally take children. It sounds to me like a drug or some other debt was owed, and they have taken the child as collateral.

While tragic that it happened, could it have been prevented?

The child has a rather unique look, so he should be easy to identify if someone sees him.

The mother was on the news this morning stating that they probably cut his hair. Well, it was in Spanish so I think that is what was said. My translation is rusty sometimes. So make sure you are focusing on the face, not just the hair.

But yeah, robbers dont' take kids usually. And how odd for them to do so on a Sunday afternoon. Still sounds like a debt or revenge type thing.

Call me pessimistic or cynical, but I think Dad knows what's going on.

:guilty:

Something is fishy. What I just heard on Foxnews is that the Police is saying that the parents are answering their questions truthfully, but they are not giving a lot of background information.

I'm not saying that this makes them guilty of having drug cartell connections, but when there are holes in a background check and story something isn't right. My gut is saying drug cartell, because they are the only ones who don't care about any lives. Just look at Mexico and how bad it is there.

I'll keep that little boy in my thoughts and prayers! Unfortunately, he's the one paying the price for something.

That is what I am thinking too.

And I also noticed some "holes" in the story, and other random information tossed in. Doesn't make sense.
