Amazon Prime vs. Garden Grocer for snacks for the room

Headed down in two weeks! Going with another family who has never been and has three girls 6, 5, and 5. They are wanting to order food, sunscreen, soda, and bottled water for their room at AoA. We don't usually order stuff anymore since we like to go light in the parks and not carry around goldfish and fruit snacks all day and we like to sample all the goodies there instead. So I am I a little rusty on the process. They are wondering if they should just use their Amazon Prime account and ship to the resort or use Garden Grocer. Could I get some pros and cons to pass along and general experience using Prime. Finally, what is the procedure for Prime, just use the resort address, their name and reservation number?

Thanks gang.

Just an FYI - I ordered something via Amazon prime last trip to be delivered to the Contemporary, and the delivery actually went to their convention center, not the resort. I don't know if AoA deliveries could possibly go somewhere else first. It took a little extra time for them to track it down and actually get the package to our room, so if they need something immediately it might be a good idea to pack a few items. On a side note, we are trying Garden Grocer for our trip in Nov. The app was very easy to use and they offer a 10% discount if you order at least 60 prior to your trip.

I am watching this thread. I have Amazon prime but am leaning towards GG to get milk for my 4 yo and wine for my husband and myself to drink on the balcony when the kids are asleep

I haven't used prime at wdw, but used a couple of times for traveling and haven't had an issue. We had some things delivered to Paradise pier at DLR and called the resort ahead of time. If using I would call the hotel you are staying at and speak with them directly about a shipping address.

Compare prices. As both have their prices published, it's very easy to compare and go with the cheapest. I've sent items down via prime before (not pantry) and had no problems. Just make sure to time it to arrive about 2 days before you do, and note the name and arrival date on the package. In both cases (having things shipped vs. having things delivered) I've had them get "lost" at the resort and it's taken them time to find the package/part of the order.

This is because Contemporary has a convention center. Those resorts send shipments there (and usually charge a receiving/handling fee) to make sure that conventioneers have their things sent to the right location for their conventions. I believe the same would apply at Coronado and Yacht club. The other resorts it should go to the main resort.

We used Amazon last year. We shipped some essentials I was going to have to order anyways then ordered groceries through pantry.

Pantry still charges shipping, but it's far cheaper and there is no minimum cost on the order. We knew we didn't need much so we didn't need such a large shipment like from garden grocer. Milk we just bought in the food court no issue. I didn't find any real difference on the price either to justify it.

That being said if they are really picky about wanting certain items check what's available on pantry. The selection is no where near as good.

Also I just ordered a few days in advance for shipping time and sent directly to Pop Century's delivery address. When we arrived I just called from the room and they brought it up.

Sorry if this is changing the topic too much, but I had heard you could buy cases of water, breakfast items, milk etc at some of the resorts. Is it that much cheaper to have a place like GG deliver? Thanks!

I know if you have Amazon Pantry shipped to the Contemporary there is a fee of about $10 from the hotel. Is there also that fee for Garden Grocer?

For those who have done Garden Grocer... so, you call the front desk when you are in your room and the bellhop delivers the package? How much do you tip the bellhop?

I've read a few instances of difficulties with Amazon Pantry orders on here, which would make me nervous. That being said, Amazon Pantry prices tend to be cheaper than Garden Grocer and they do not have a delivery fee or minimum order requirement like Garden Grocer does. If budget is a concern, I'd take my chances with Amazon. Otherwise, I'd do GG.

I don't believe the convention hotels impose a fee for grocery delivery. The Amazon stuff arrives as a package so I believe that's why they charge for that. Garden Grocer does have a delivery fee themselves, but that comes from GG and not the resort.

Yes. Tipping is discretionary. We'd tip the bellhop the same as if he or she were delivering our luggage.

Personally, I think there's something to be said for supporting smaller, local businesses, even if there's a small price disadvantage. That's especially true when Amazon is the alternative.

The main difference lies in the fact that with GG, you can order perishables as well as beer and wine. With Amazon Prime Pantry, the items tend to cost less.

I ordered 3 boxes from Amazon for our last trip to Pop (two prime pantry boxes and one travel coffee maker). I didn't need much but did get lots of drinks like water, iced coffee, and Izze. It was all delivered to our room, and they wouldn't accept the tip I left them with a note!

I've used GG as well a few times, and it's a great service (especially when we stayed at the DVC villas with a kitchen).

So, basically, if they want perishables like cheese sticks, yogurt, milk (although you can get it at the food court), and beer or wine, they will prefer GG. If not, they can do either. They're both good options!
