Amazon - do they usually sit on an order for over a week, before shipping?

You didn't pay for rush shipping so they didn't rush ship it. I think it's just that simple.

I have Prime and have never had a shipping issue. I love the new Same Day delivery on some items. I order in the morning and when I get home its there. Awesome! Impulse internet shopping.

I think they bit off more than they could chew with the same day delivery and even next day. I would think those would have to be prioritized which is pushing off the "normal" shipments, even the prime 2 day. I still think prime is worth it though, especially with the music library they have

Actually, same-day and next day delivery is beneficial to them because it is easier in a lot of ways. Because of the pure volume of small customer orders they get in a day, it is much easier for them to recieve the order, drop it down to the warehouse floor for immediate pick, and get it shipped out as quickly as possible. They do not have capacity to let small parcel shipments sit around, whether it be before it is picked (because new product is always arriving to replace it), or once it is picked/packed and ready to ship. I would almost guarantee that their "prime" business, same-day/next day, and their regular ship business are coded differently and handled by different teams. Overlaps in ship/delivery times of the different shipping methods are coincidence more than anything.

UNFORTUNATELY, I had the same problem recently. I RARELY order from Amazon, but I was purchasing a GPS golf device for our son for his birthday which was hard to find elsewhere. I literally placed the order on Sat. April 30th at 1:30 in the afternoon, selected regular shipping, device was in stock, not being shown as back ordered or anything and I needed it because we were getting together Sunday, May 8th. Thought no problem to myself. By late Wednesday, I was not notified of a shipping link, so very early Thursday morning I called Amazon only to be told that it would be "shipping soon". I went CRAZY, CRAZY!>:(:P Long story short communicated to CS manager that the shipping timeframe was HERENDOUS that if there was a problem I should have been made aware of it on Sat.April 30th before finally placing the order. I demanded that because of this "hiccup" that the item be overnighted at their cost. They explained that they would have to charge my credit card for the cost of expedited shipping and then credit my credit card for the shipping. They PROMISED to email me personally the details of our conversation and NEVER DID! After waiting an hour for the e mail, I spent another 45 minutes on the phone explaining the circumstance to yet another CS manager. I did receive the item on Friday, thankfully, and I followed up with my cc company and the shipping was credited. POOR OVERALL SERVICE>:( and even though it was rectified, I will avoid regretfully doing business with Amazon.:sad2: Push the CS manager to provide you with FREE expedited shipping! Good luck! :goodvibes

Most of my prime items are reasonable, few are not.

I ordered some items last week that I needed for this upcoming weekend. One item wasn't even getting shipped for over a month, so I removed it. I can't begin to understand why there would be a long window like that unless it was a pre-sell item.

And I have had items take that amount of time before and I wasn't in a rush. While it came sooner than expected, it was still a couple of weeks.

For the most part, I get out items pretty quickly.

If you want priority or expedited shipping then why not pay for it? Demanding something be done because you CHOOSE not to upgrade from the free shipping is ludicrous, IMO. You were expecting a service that you did not pay for. How is that Amazon's fault?

Many times are sold with 2 day shipping. The entire business model seems to be able pretty quick turn around. It becomes a surprise when the order finalized and then it tells you it won't be fulfilled for a week or more.

Also, it seems OP thinks the quoted time was arrival at her door. So why bother quoting an arrival time if they plan on not meeting it? What she paid for included an arrival time. Her Prime membership is what enabled it to be shipped for free.

Pretty sure she's not a Prime member per post 1. That contributed to the speed issue.
It's probably prudent to choose expedited shipping if you're not Prime and really need something by a certain date.

What items are sold with 2 day shipping (for non-prime members?) I'm always logged in so I only see what is available to me. Is it common for amazon to offer free 2 day shipping for non-prime members?

My bad. I assumed and didn't catch that.

But I would still have a similar beef. I order with free shipping from other companies and I expect the delivery window to be honored and usually, only when there is an actual issue, it is.

The free shipping option is usually 5-7 business days so i'm assuming they were banking on the 5 and realized it wasn't going to happen. I don't think Amazon would offer the free 2 day unless it's a small add on that can ship quick or if it's another seller that is offering the promotion.

Also, it's possible the OP missed the business days part of shipping. Business days for shipping are Mon-Fri. Sat/Sun do not count. So, if she ordered on Sunday May 8th, with a 10 business day delivery window, they wouldn't need to deliver until the 20th.

YES!,You got that right! Unreasonable to sit on an order, on the 4th business day not even shipped yet!,Horrible!>:(

And? You didn't pay for it to be shipped before then so you had no VALID complaint. I think its far more unreasonable to expect a shipping service that you didn't pay for.

For those who think Amazon "sits" on orders, you do realize that Amazon doesn't get paid till the items ships.

Name me any company that is not going to take your money as soon as they possibly can.

If you chose the free shipping with 5-7 day delivery time and you needed it to arrive Saturday you were already cutting it very close with a 5-7 day delivery time. Saturday would have been day 5 and there's no knowing until it ships if you are in that 5 day timeframe or not. It could have very well arrived on Tuesday had it shipped ontime. Also I have to say your situation seems very unusual for Amazon. I have been a customer for over 20 years, since all they sold were books and have also been selling professionally as a 3P seller on Amazon for 5 years. Amazon is so completely customer driven that it's incredibally easy to get "free" items just by calling/emailing/chatting and complaining or filing an A-Z claim.

Guess the CS manager felt I had a valid complaint. Expedited shipping refunded!!!::yes::

You don't need a valid complaint, you just need to complain and they will find a way to make it right. They don't care if it was your mistake to begin with.
