AMAZING RACE 5 - Official Thread

I am so glad that I'm not the only one that can't stand Mirna and Schmirna and their whining. They just seem to look for a confrontation and then complain when it doesn't turn out their way.

I've liked Chip and Kim from the beginning so I'm glad to see they are doing so well. They seem to really appreciate all of the opportunities to see the world that they've had on the show.

I thought the Bowling Mom's idea of getting money from tourists was a great idea.

Next week should be interesting again.

Elise

I was :rotfl: when the bowling moms looked up, saw the tour buses and said "yes! we just hit the motherload!" Priceless!

CindyAnn -- I so agree with you about the fake accent! What is up with that? It doesn't make it any easier for people who don't speak English to understand you -- you just sound like an idiot!

The Pizza Brothers - The xenophobic boys bit the dust, but they gave it a pretty good try. Did anybody mention to them that they'd be mixing with people from other cultures? It seemed clear that poor Lance was in a lot of pain, so they're probably the logical team to go in any case.

I cannot agree with the xenophobix tag. Come on, they're from New York, one of the most diverse cities in the US. How could they possibly be xenophobic?

Yep, I too, am getting a little sick and tired of C/M's W H I N I N G!  Its driving me:crazy: . "Oh, I can't do it, I am going to die....."   Accckkkk! HOPE to heavens they DO NOT win now, I am rooting for Chip & Kim and thats about it!:p Glad the A***** from New York are GONE!::yes::

Well, I thought it showed a lot of character that the two brothers from NY were able to keep going. They are also (aside from Chip & Kim) the only ones who didn't argue with one another during their time in the race. That says a lot for their relationship I think.

Okay, I'm ready for Charla & Myrna and the one guy (with the stringy dirty hair) and his girlfriend to both go! Can't stand any of these four.

I'd really like to see it get down to Chip & Kim and Brandon & ?. They seem to be the two groups that are most deserving.

Of couse, if DH and I were competing in AR5, we'd have axe-murdered each other somewhere between the pier and the airport in LA, so we'd have been removed from the race long ago. It's a lot easier to criticize than to do it!

Same here. Therefore, I am routing for the "married parents".
I do find Charla & Mirna entertaining. If they are eliminated, AR will lose a lot of appeal for me. The goat thing was priceless. Charla was clearly petrified of the goats. I did think Charla was overly hard on Mirna during the dig. But Mirna didn't seemed phased .

I never really liked the brothers - but I love the fact that they stuck together. I kept pointing out to my 9 & 10 yr old boys, how wonderfully the brothers treated each other.

As for the taxi incident, I took it as a huge misunderstanding. M&C didn't know that they weren't planning to give up the taxi. M&C did get out once they realized what was going on.

Gometros - I just meant that Lance and Marshall seemed to make some pretty negative comments about the people they met. Back in South America (I think outside the disco) one of them made a comment like "They're just a bunch of stupid foreigners" when a group of people was unable to provide them with directions. There's a remark that encourages the locals to appreciate tourism. In Russia they were making comments about how "all the Russians looked so grumpy - it must be the lousy weather" or words to that effect. There was also something desperately wrong with the island pit stop - I just don't remember exactly what it was, now.

All of the other teams seem to be able to roll with the punches and accept that different people do things different ways. After all, if you want everything to be just like home, you shouldn't leave in the first place. I have to say that I agree with you, though, in that I would expect two guys from New York City to be able to take it all in stride and be a little more tolerant.

I think they gave it their best shot and, most importantly, THEY CAN NOW CHANGE A TIRE! So they did acquire an important life skill during their travels. :D

Ok, so maybe I am wrong, but I thought they were being funny, joking around, when they made those comments. :confused3

actually, didn't they say there plan was to steal the next team's cab that came to the terminal? I think the only reason they gave it up is that the others were smart enough to leave their bags in it.

HATE c/m. Mirna is so annoying. reminds me of a woman I met in the grocery store one time. I had taken my grandmother shopping and had a horrible cart that kept veering off. It almost hit this woman but I was able to pull it back. she told me straight out (and not joking) that it was too bad, she would have liked to sue.

Actually, the pizza brothers are from Dallas, and I've been to their restaurant. I don't think they get a real diverse group there.

I can't ever remember which is which but I thought the brother treated his hurting brother so kindly. I would have been yelling at my brother!

I hope Chip and Kim do well. My sons like to watch this show and so many of the teams use words I consider inappropriate. Brandon also annoys me. Telling Nicole to pray for him to find the rock. What is up with that? C&M are entertaining and that is the only reason I hope they stay around for a while.

Enough rambling. Cathy

That was another really good show. How can you not love TAR? With all the cheap, thrown together reality shows (I'm looking at you, BB5), you've just gotta admire a show that goes all out like this. Herding goats into a fellucah, and sailing it across the Nile? Riding a donkey in Egypt with an urn full of water? That really is Amazing stuff.

While I'm eating my lunch, I thought I'd post my feelings about each of the teams.

Colin/Christie She's OK, but I can't stand him. He's just too intense for my tastes, and I thought he treated his partner terribly when she struggled with the caviar. They're great racers though. They are never satisfied with their arrangements and are always looking to improve them. That's the mark of a winning team. DW thinks Colin's a hunk, tho.

Chip/Kim I like that this team really appreciates the experience. They all do (except the twins), but Chip especially is enjoying himself. I don't think they'll win, because they seem to be followers on the travel arrangement part, but nobody's having more fun.

Kami/Karli They are so unbelievably clueless! I honestly don't think they even know what country they're in half the time. I hope they stick around, because they are entertaining in a Paris-and-Nicole kind of way, but they're liable to fly off into oblivion at any moment. I like how even they recognize thie spaciness.

Brandon/Nicole I like these guys too. They care for each other, but not in a syrupy, gag me sort of way. And although they obviously have strong religious beliefs, they don't hit you over the head with them. They're a strong team, and even Mirna seems to not hate them.

Charla/Mirna I've hated this team from the word go. Especially Mirna, but Charla got on my nerves in a big way last night, too. I can't stand whining and that's all these two do. And did you catch Mirna spitting last night? What a bimbo! I respect their toughness and their ability to find good travel arrangements, but if they lost next week I'd be a happy Jimbo.

Linda/Karen I like the moms a lot. They seem good natured all of the time, and never give up. They seem to be enjoying the experience more than most, too. But they have been at the back of the pack for the entire run of the show, so they're marked for elimination.

Marshall/Lance I wasn't offended by them, especially. I think they just projected a tough-guy front, but were pretty nice guys underneath. I knwo that a lot of people were disgusted that they didn't bother completing the challenge, but I sort of understand.

From the CBS website:

Brothers Marshall & Lance are originally from New York, but have since relocated to Dallas, Texas, where they own and operate a pizza shop.

I think the word C/M used was "take". After they said that the 2nd time I noticed there weren't any other taxi's sitting around that terminal - like I'd expect at an American airport. I just took that to mean that they saw the next team's taxi as the next available taxi. They did jump in before the other team retrieved their bags - I would have assumed the other team would get around to removing their bags. They never showed C/M actually going any place else - guess they gave up on the other terminal. Now next episode's "get outta my way" - clearly looked rude & intentional. My boys got a huge kick out of that & were immitating Charla after that one.

Am I the only one who wondered if the "flight delay" was intentional? If the moms had missed that flight, it would have been clear which team would have been eliminated rather early in the episode. (Not good for ratings.)

I don't think so. Flight delays are all too common. Although it was a charter, right? So I suppose they could delay it without affecting other travellers.

Plus once they got on the flight, it was clear who was eliminated. Whichever brother had the bad knees couldn't even walk, so there really wasn't any suspense anyhow.

I agree with mom2boys about the taxi. I don't believe there were taxis around and C/M were looking to take the next available, which just happened to be butthead Chip's. Am I the only one who heard how mean he talked to C/M? Granted they have had run ins before but the way he talks to the is unexcusable and I would have either cussed him out or decked him by now. He also pushed the girls as he was leaving the ticket booth at the temple. I think next week is deliberate.

I don't think the plane was delayed intentionally.

As much as I didn't like the brothers I admire the way they finished the race.
