AMAZING RACE 5 - Official Thread

I do tend to believe that editing tends to exaggerate some - but the negative attidude needs to be there to begin with to then become exaggerated by editing.

Charla and Mirna - I had no problem with this team until the airport incident (I think it was in South America) when Charla tried to get pushed up on the standby list for the first flight out by telling the counter agent she needed to get on the flight to get to the doctor. (Um hello - do you think that agent can't see the cameras following you and realize your in a race??) The dad and daughter team were clearly the first to check in for standby on that first flight and C/M's ploy plus Colin's flirting witht he agent put them on the top of the list over the father/daughter - and this caused them to lose the race. I understand that jockeying for position is what the race is all about, and the father/daughter messed up by also failing to get 2 seats on the same plane - but had they been given that standby flight they would have been OK.

From that point on I have had a hard time with C/M. I am impressed by thier ability to communiate in various languages and their determination - but the whinning while doing it is just getting to me.

Chip/Kim -I like them and do agree they seem to be appreciating the journey and not just focusing on the pit stop but I cannot seem to get much enthusiasm for them. He's great with physical challenges and that has kept them in it to this point. The caviar task put them from the last place team to first - let's see if they can stay up front.

Colin/Christie - He seemed so supportive when she started eating that caviar and they were alone. But as soon as the other teams arrived the gloves came off and he turned nasty. They do seem to support and love one another. And they are very smart. All of his obnoxious behavior seems to be a reaction to others so I am not so put off by him. He is confident and I think they have the best chance of winning. They remind me of Zach and Flo.

Bowling Moms - they are a lot of fun and they are enjoying the journey as well. They have just been very very very lucky to this point. Her attitude while digging in the sand last night bothered me. Never give up and give it your best. Complaining about it will never make it better. They were just lucky that the Brothers were so far behind.

The Wonder Twins - Clueless as all heck!! I cannot stand them - I haven't liked them since there first trip to the LA airport. They act like know-it-alls and they don't seem to have a clue.

Brandon and Nicole - I guess they are my pick to win - I admire him standing by his religious beliefs in Russia and not wanting to drink the Vodka. Having true beliefs and sticking by them is admirable. At least more admirable then others actions on the trip. As other posters have said they don't seem to be pushing their beliefs onto others. What sealed it for me was how he took care of her while she was getting sick with the caviar and his admitting that making decisions without her input hindred them as a team and was not the right way to go about things. He learned from his mistakes.

All in all I think this has been a great season - I am jealous they went to Egypt - looks like Africa might be the next stop.

Actually, they're already in Africa. Egypt is in northern Africa. It doesn't seem African, though. :)

As much as I think Mirna over-reacts sometimes, I really give her a LOT of credit. She is from our area, and she is a SMALL girl and most of the tasks that have anything to do with lifting, pulling, pushing, carrrying anything heavy they either can't do, or it's all on her to do it. I think I would be whining too.

And as for the way she acts towards Colin, have any of you ever been bullied? Do you know what it feels like when you feel like everyone (other teams) don't really like you and are ganging up on you every move you make? It makes you pretty bitter and defensive and I really think this is what is happening. I totally agree that she should not have jumped in the cab, but I watched closely (because I knew it would be blasted on here) and initially Colin and Christie were standing near the back so it looked like they were getting their bags out. Mirna jumped in and they totally pounced on her. It wasn't nice like I'm sorry, but this is our cab, it was immediate rudeness. Her face looked like a deer caught in the headlights and when they kept yelling then she got really defensive.

Just my 2 cents- I really like Charla and Mirna

M&C are a couple of pinheads that assult comment last night was way to over the top even for them. It was quite funny how they tried to take the cab even though it hadn't been paid for yet. I honestly would have let them take it then walked into the correct terminal and left them to wander the airport looking.

Glad to see the pizza brothers go as they were my least favorite. His knees were awful anyway-looked like he was in too much pain to go much further. He said they never buged him before or since the Race? Karma and all that I guess:)

I like Chip and Kim and Brandon and Nicole and would not mind if they won. I like the bowling moms ok and they were lucky last night but I still can't forget how they told the father/daughter team to be sure and exchange money. That was one of the factors that lost the race for that team-not too nice moms! The twins are ok but I don't think they deserve to win. Too clueless and they admit it.

I am still rooting for Charla/Mirna-I like them! I hope, hope, hope Colin and Christie go next but he is very pushy so they may win. Nasty moves with the shove and the blocking of the door next week. They did not have to be so loud and "in your face" about the cab. Just show the bags in the trunk-period. I think he annoyed C/M and then they got nasty back because of it. He was so red and angry I though his head would explode.
:hyper: Then he realized he was yelling and calmed down to show them the bags.

I'm not sure that ever happened or perhaps it was miscommunication. No one ever heard the bowling moms say anything to them or at least it wasn't aired. I think if something like that did really happen, then it would be put on the air. Normally, I wouldn't approve of tactics like that, but I'm willing to disregard this time since I didn't hear the moms say anything about that.

Ha! The accent thing is hilarious. My DH does that all the time. I tell him that speaking bad broken English with a chinese accent is not going to make him more understandable.

Actually, my DH and I would be very entertaining on this show. I would be yelling at him and he would be lost and I would be dorking up the challenges. I can barely walk on level land without falling down.

Anyway....C/M are fun to watch and the show would be less riveting without them. I think Colin's team will be the winners. I too was amazed no one knew what a scarab was! And did you hear the twins before they went into the pyramid? They were talking about how they never understood what they were supposed to do and I thought one of them said, "we are supposed to descend...what is descend?"

Did anyone else catch that???

I was wondering the same thing did these people never have a history lesson in school. I know we covered history from not only Canada but all over the world. Even my 6 year old knew what a scarab was that was too funny.

Pigpen - Too funny! I thought that's what the twins said too "What's descend?". I mean, "descend" isn't a million dollar word, exactly, is it? Maybe I just didn't hear that part properly. How is it that all the other teams seem to understand the instructions?

Jimbo - Yes, yes the spitting! Wasn't it nice to watch Mirna spewing saliva? I had to explain to DD and DS this morning that she was spitting in a contemptuous way (as opposed to the way sports figures sometimes spit, which isn't exactly attractive either, IMHO, but at least has a completely different connotation).

Beth76 - About the money exchange incident - This is second hand, but a friend who listened to an interview said that the Bowling Moms were talking to some local people (on the ferry I guess) and they were told that they'd have to exchange money. Apparently Jim & Marsha overheard that (and maybe the Bowling Moms relayed the information directly, too?). I'm not sure that it was necessarily a deliberate attempt to mislead, though. They could have heard later information that convinced them not to bother exchanging any money.

Okay, so what do you do if Mirna is your lawyer? Are her clients heading for the hills even as we speak? Or are they saying to themselves "Wow, that honey will walk all over people to get what I want". (dibs on the highest hill and I'll arm wrestle all the other anti-Mirnites for it). I wonder how it's working as a career move?

Cheers,

The twins make me crazy - I don't know how they have gotten this far. They admitted they hadn't even read the directions to the pyramids. HELLO - How do they expect to do well if they don't both to find out what they are supposed to be doing? I hope they are the next team eliminated.

YES!!!! LOL
I was like DUH!
I even know what that is, and I will admit it, I have no clue what a scarab is!

About the money changing incident with the bowling moms...

One the CBS site, there is a section where you can see little videos of the different teams on the trip.
http://www.cbs.com/primetime/amazing_race5/ Click on vidoe insider

One of the videos shows the bowling mom talking about changing money there. The did exchange some money at a little coffee shop and there were some other teams coming and they just stuffed the money in their pockets....they were scammed and not given the correct amount and were afraid they would not have enough for taxi's and such. Episode 1 chapter3 is where this takes place on the video thingie.

They also show an encounter between the older dating couple and Mirna and Charla and an airport. M/C left their bags at the counter and just left them. Bob wanted to move their bags out of the way and said they can't leave bags there to hold their place in line. The internet gal didn't want to start anything and didn't want to get involved with them. Mirna and Charla came back and said something to Bob about him touching the bags and kept on and on about how disgusting touching someones bag was and how he was so disgusting..
Episode 3 Chapter 2

It was a realy telling video clip.

They also show a clip of Allison and Donnie getting a taxi. Donnie goes to get in the taxi and he opened the door a little too far and it got hit by a car. Dented the door.
 Allisong just told the driver that they couldn't take his car and started looking for another taxi. Episode 2 Chapter 1

Thanks for the link...too funny. I like the one from Episode 6 entitled "Alone Together"

The one with Bob/Joyce & Mirna/Charla is great. "They are disgusting"...huh? Mirna is nuts if you ask me. I know, I know....no one is asking. :teeth:

I just watched the Bowling Moms' pre-race interview, and I'm starting to think they are secretly related to the twins. :) First, Karen says, "We met during our sons' kindergarten roundup. They are 19 and 20 now. So, we met like, 19, 20 years ago...." Um, ok, so your sons began kindergarten as infants.

Then, Linda says my favorite line: "Of all the people I know, I'm THE most competitive. And Karen's more competitive than me." So, Karen is actually a stranger you just grabbed off the street? You don't count her as someone you know? Isn't that some sort of rule violation?

OK, I can not, for the life of me, get the video clips to work. I remember trying it before and nothing happened. I'll have to have DH do it for me later.

I did go back and look at a few things....

about the twins and their "descent" remark. I don't think they didn't know what "descent" means. I think they just didn't understand exactly *how* they were supposed to "descend".

Colin & Myrna and the "assault"--- I watched it in slo-mo and there were lanes in front of the ticket booth. It looked like one was for entering the line and then another one for exiting the line. Myrna sort of pushed her way into the line where Colin needed to exit from and he was just trying to get through. The lanes were very narrow--no more than 2 ft wide. If she hadn't have pushed her way in, he wouldn't have had to get by her. There was no "assault".

And the comment Myrna made about feeling like she was in jr.high being bullied--that's just ridiculous. She keeps calling people names and accusing them of "assault" and what not. Talk about childish. Oh and the spitting scene was nice.

My vote is for the bowling moms.......I love the fact that they are not young gorgeous models and they have spunk!! I would have gotten frustrated digging in that sand for so long also.....

Go bowling moms!! The other team is Chip and Kim. They are just so excited to be there.

My favorite show!!

Have a Disney day!!

CindyAnn...I had to look up xenophobic but now know it means intolerant and racist. Your comment about the twins having one brain :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: They may have been conjoined and had to split the brain! We are soooo bad!

They are lucky that airport security didn't remove the bags as a "security threat". They would have if they were in this country.
