AMAZING RACE 5 - Official Thread

That is SO true! I did not think about the 11:30pm time.

I totally agree with Colin/Christie using the FF. There's only one other leg that even has a FF, so why not use it? As it turns out, leaving at 11:30 means that they probably will get caught by other teams, so that won't help them that much.

But remember... the last leg was a 20 hour bus ride, followed by maybe 30 hours of plane travel, followed by 2.2 pounds of caviar. Don't you think everyone was probably exhausted? So C/C got to take it easy while the rest of the teams were schlepping huge stones across the desert. Hard to fault them for skipping that.

Here's something interesting that I thought of. C/C get to leave 12 hours after they hit the mat. Isn't it possible that they will be leaving for the next leg of the race before the moms and the twins complete the prior leg, the one we saw last night?

I hate the Mirna/Charla (mostly Mirna) team, but they ran an absolutely perfect leg. But what was up with them trying to speak Italian in Russia? "Bellisimo" and "ahhh, perfecto". And saying "choo-choo" for the train. They are such idiots.

Awesome leg, though, with all of the Tomb Raider/Indiana Jones stuff. And finishing at the Sphinx (or Spinks, as Chip would say) was so impressive.

PoohBear - It was a non-elimination round, so no one got kicked off. The bowling moms came in last, though, and had to forfeit ALL their money. They will start the next leg of the race with $0!

You know, I try to not get offended by other peoples' opinions on here because that is what this board is for- to share opinions, but I was a little irritated/uneasy by the following comment.

I hate the Mirna/Charla (mostly Mirna) team, but they ran an absolutely perfect leg. But what was up with them trying to speak Italian in Russia? "Bellisimo" and "ahhh, perfecto". And saying "choo-choo" for the train. They are such idiots.

I think 'hate' is an awfully strong word and calling them idiots was a little uncalled for. Yes, they don't always represent themselves as best as they probably could, but did you happen to notice that about 4 other teams were also saying choo choo, and that 2 of the other teams were talking with strange accents when they were telling the cab driver the instructions. The moms, and the twins (I think?) both said where to go in English with a little accent to it. So it's not just them. After last night's episode I was very curious to get on here and see if any of the C/M 'haters' would have changed their tune a little because they ran such a great leg (like the quoted person stated.) It just seems like people have such strong opinions of them at one side or the other and no matter what they do, no one's opinion will change. I, personally, like them a lot. I think they are playing a great game. Yes, they don't always carry themselves well, and yes, Charla does all the roadblocks, but Mirna does all the driving and it seems to be working for them.

Ok, rant over :)

Hate is a strong word - how about major dislike? ;) Mirna just irritates the stuffing outta me - she's always whining about not being able to do something, for one reason or another, but then she'll turn around and have the NERVE to be impatient over Charla not doing something quickly enough to suit her. "Hurry UP, Charla!! Just stuff it in your mouth!" etc., etc. That just bugs me to death, and if I were Charla, I'd tell her to stuff a sock in it!

They ran a great leg, and I was happy to hear them appreciating the pyramids, etc.

The last two shows have just solidified for me the teams I love and those that irritate me. C/C annoy me so much. He is so arrogant and a real butt (can't use the word I'm thinking of on here!) And if any of you think that running this race won't make you whine you're nuts. Remember all the editing that goes on.

I love the fact that C/M love what they are doing and throw themselves into the tasks and meeting people. IMHO that's the way to live life! Did you notice they shook hands with the carpet man after riding the horses? They have always been very respectful of people, well except some of the idiots competing against them and I think C/M have been treated pretty badly by other teams so they deserve what they get.

The joy on Chips face while he was in Egypt was fun to watch.

If anyone I think the Mom's can pull off not having money. I just hope they don't waste too much time trying to barter and get furthur behind. I thought that after all the schenanigans pulled the first season when they had to buy their tickets out of their money that they wouldn't leave them without money again. Should be interesting.

Well, after last night I'm definitely a Chip and Kim fan. Up until last night I really didn't care who won. After seeing how Chip helped those two teams and how excited they were to be in Eygpt, I just got a good feeling about them. I also liked when Chip said, even though his helping K/K cost them, he didn't regret it, because he rather be true to himself. GO Chip and KIM:bounce:

Count me among those that can't stand Charla and Mirna. I will admit that they are playing a great game, but they are also the last team I want to see win.

On cbs.com's site for AR5, it says the following about Charla --
She has a form of dwarfism and says she “certainly does not consider it a limitation.” In fact, she says she hopes “to show the world what I can do and break all stereotypes about dwarfs!”
That's admirable. Yet at the same time she's shown that she's more than willing to use her condition as an advantage to gain sympathy and help from people. If she wants to show that dwarfism shouldn't be a hindrance, then it shouldn't be used to gain an advantage.

As for the other teams, Chip and Kim grew on me more last night. They really have an enthusiasm for the race and for the sights they're seeing, and others might have thrown the twins even more off track instead of helping.

I don't find Colin and Christie annoying, and I think they're running a good race so far. I don't blame them for using the FF. Otherwise, one of the other teams might have used it or it would've gone to waste if it was a case where either they used it or no one did. Even though they're leaving at 11:30 PM, they still got 12 hours rest, and even if they end up stalled at an airport (the great equalizers in the AR) and the others catch up with them, they can still rest again.

The twins -- "we're clueless". What more needs to be said? :teeth:

That was pretty funny. They basically threw away the clue because they were too exhausted to think it through. At that point they were literally, as well as figuratively, clueless.

Re: My post referencing 'hating' Mirna and Charla. I do hate them. At least the characters on the show; maybe in real life I'd be crazy about them. But if I say I hate them, I mean I have a strong dislike to their behavior. If I call them 'idiots,' I basically mean the same thing.

Perhaps those words have different connotations to some people. But those people need to deal with it, IMHO.

First I love C&M..... I think that they are doing a great job and some of the other teams have just been down right nasty, the other teams deserve what ever they get from this point out....

Chip and Kim really grew on me last night...he does have a nice side...

I love the bowling moms....I hope they make it without money...and the twins get the axe....

Can't wait until next week...

You can count me as one of the ones in Charla/Mirna's court. I like them and Mirna's whining doesn't bother me. It might though if I had to be around her all the time. :p

Anyway, I admire the way that Charla just keeps on trudging along, never seeming to give up no matter the obstacle. Yes, her cousin treats her awlfull sometimes and she just keeps on going. Every one step the other players take, she has to take two. And I like her attitude about everywhere they have been. She is so delighted to experience everything. In fact, they both seem that way.

And I like Chip and Kim more and more. It was so fun to see his excitement on being in Russia and Egypt.

Yes, I have to say I have been rooting for Charla and Myrna all along too...it surprises me how many people on this board don't like them. Myrna just seems like a strong, opinionated woman, who won't let the other teams push them around. She admitted last night that she felt guilty for making Charla do the roadblock. I think she was so adament about getting to the camels (and therefore coming across as mean to Charla) because she knew the rock rolling would be nearly impossible for them. They treat each other MUCH more respectfully than some teams in past seasons have, and they never show Charla getting all ticked at her cousin for yelling at her, so it must just roll off her back, or she can dish it right back out.

Speaking of treating each other respectfully, one of the reasons I dislike Colin so much is how he was just looking contemptfully at Christie last week when she was trying to gag down the cavier, and then he started getting a little nasty with her (reminded me of Flo and what's his name). He thinks he's so right all the darn time (again with trying to find the coffin thingee last night and dragging her all over the place and not listening to her) it just grates on me.

Anyone else want to cut Brandon's hair!??! ;) Good lordie that boy needs a trim!

Charla and Myrna have been my favorites from day one!! Last time I posted on this thread people were so adamant that they were an awful team that I just backed off.

I will stand by them. They are very smart ladies and they are tough.

Have any of you visted the pyramids in Egypt? I have.... Mirna mentioned that she became anxious going into small places...let me tell you the bottom of the pyramids is so hot and small that Many people would not be able to do that challenge.

They are a strong team..and if you notice they encourage each other.

People make fast statements about others without really placing themselves in their shoes. None of the teams are perfect...neither are Charla and Myrna....but they are playing a good game. They are one of the few teams that has offered assistance to other teams...and then be turned on immediately...how would you react if you were in that case? I believe if any of the teams showed them an inch of respect and help they would be loyal to them.

I like the Charla and Mirna team and think they are kicking butt!! As far as Charla's comments on her dwarfism, I think she is just doing what most "normal"- sized people do- using what attribtues she has availablt to her. One example: if Charla were 5'6" and gorgeous wouldn't many people find it acceptable or even feel it was smart game-playing for her to use her sexuality to obtain help from the opposite sex?(I'm talking flirtation)

They are playing a game and doing what they have to in order to win. Charla from the beginning is starting out with a major disadvantage. I've yet to hear HER whine(unlike Mirna), instead she refuses to give up and plays hard. A lot of the roadblocks are not exactly designed with a small person in mind. I think it would have been very difficult for them to complete the stone & log challenge, look at how even Chip seemed strained!

I guess what I'm trying to say is Charla faces a lot more obstacles doing basic things that people of average height simply take for granted. If everyone over 5' just knelt down and tried to function on their knees in a world designed for people much taller you might have a sense of what I mean. For her to enter a race where height and endurance are an obvious advantage, I see nothing wrong with the way she is playing. :sunny:

I'm with you there!

I agree with the Charla and Myrna thing too. Myrna does drive me nuts sometimes - but I thought they played really smart this time and they HAD to make it to the camels. At least they realized that and made the effort to get there.

Much better than the twins running around without any idea what they needed to do.

Course I'm hard to please.

Colin and Christie drive me crazy cause they are so mean to each other.

but,

Brandon and ?? drive me crazy cause they are so sicky sweet to each other all the time.

I do like Chip and Kim more each week.

I wish C/M would get booted they bother me so ditzy sounding and the way they act. The twins now I wish they had been last and lost all of their money I am glad the mothers did not have to go home.

all I know is when I see Brandon the theme song to The Greatest American Hero pops into my head :)

"Believe it or not I'm walking on air, I never thought I could feel so free-e-e-..."

LOL! Anyone remember that show?

I can't stand Charla/Mirna. I've said it before, I'll say it again....I have NO problem with them using the height disadvantage to gain sympathy from others. My problem is that they say how independent they are & they can do anything & they don't need any help. IMHO, they are in no way showing how independent they are. They use Charla's height as a way to manipulate people & get people to feel sorry for them & help them out. At least the twins said from day one that they'd use flirting to help themselves if they needed to.

I don't think Colin/Christie are very mean to each other. They are under a lot of pressure & they may snap at each other, but they don't belittle each other or anything. Again, JMHO.
