AM I TOO BIG?

Space Mountain, Radiator Springs Racer's and ToyStory all have a dedicated platform for those needing extra time for boarding and unboarding.
The two of you will stay together and board the same vehicle. Once you've experienced the ride, you can decide if you'd be able to use the general line for additional rides.

I've used all of them and it makes it nice not to have to rush.
On Space Mt. if the special platform isn't busy, the CM's might let you go through a second time.

This is so true! For those days when knee or back pain or whatever else just means that moving a bit more slowly makes all the difference in keeping your day at the park from tanking, being able to ask for a little more time in getting in and out of the ride vehicles is a big blessing!

I am taking my girlfriend to DLR and DCA for 5 days next week. She has never been to Cali as we are from the deep south of Alabama so she is VERY EXCITED. I am 6 foot 3 and right at 400 pounds. Most of my weight is def in my tummy area. I have small legs and arms for my size. I wear a size 50ish pants and a 3x or 4x shirt depending. I know I had no trouble riding anything even the fantasyland kiddie rides like peter pan and snowwhite and pinochio about 7 years ago when i was about 100 pounds lighter. I have spent all week looking for peoples comments on forums before deciding to just ask myself. I have seen sooo many different answers. I have seen at least 4 people mention being with someone my size and it wasnt a problem but ive seen people say avoid space mountain or matterhorn. Space Mountain is the one thing im looking forward to most since Pirates is gonna be down the whole time we are there. We were orginally gonna do both DLR parks and knotts and Univeral but i read alot of people smaller than me couldnt ride those rides, so im bummed to say the least. Any help is appreciated including info on whether or not a trip to Knotts or UHS would still be enjoyable at my size

How about the flight? You are going to have some difficulty fitting into an airline seat without encroaching on those around you.

I think you'll be okay on most things. Matterhorn is tight, but if you make sure to pull the seatbelt out before sitting, you'd probably be okay. I don't know on Space Mountain. My husband says for him it's more uncomfortable because of his height than anything to do with weight. Overall, most attractions should be fine. Astro-Orbiters maybe not, but it's not that great, either.

As for Universal, it depends...The Wizarding World rides are tight. I am only 220 lbs. and it's a very tight fit on Hippogriff (and Mummy, too). There are weight restrictions with the other Harry Potter ride, too, I believe. You would be able to do the tram ride and probably Jurassic Park. Maybe Simpsons. I used to work on that ride when it was Back to the Future. Depending on who's working and how they're loading, they could possibly give just you and your girlfriend a single row that usually accommodates 4. And you're good to go for the shows of course. But honestly, the rides are really cramped.

I would skip Knotts. I don't know if you'd be good to go on most of the rides or not, but it's not really worth the money to waste to find out. Most of the carnival-type rides would definitely be a no-go. I'm not sure on the roller coasters as I haven't been in a while.

Good luck. Enjoy your trip!

Forbidden Journey has some modified seating for those larger guests. With a larger belly the OP is going to be hard fit on that ride. The over shoulder restraint is not friendly to people who carry their weight in their middle section. They do have test seats so you avoid waiting in a long line and find you can't ride. If the OP's girlfriend is able to ride the castle is worth a walk through if she doesn't mind riding alone.

It all depends on your build. There aren't many over the shoulder restraints at Disneyland so if that is an issue, then don't worry. Lapbars sre going to be a problem. I have larger (thicker) legs so lapbars can be a problem (mostly for whoever rides with you). Unfortunately, Universal is going to be a problem. I can't fit on Harry Potter and that was about 20 lbs ago. I'm over 300 now. The same can also slightly be applied to The Mummy. If you can't do a regular Space Mountain car, then you would have to avoid The Mummy. I can't say too much about Knotts since I have only been there once and only went on 2 things. However, I would ask if there are seats on roller coaster for large people at Knotts. Cedar Fair, which owns Knotts, has started to do that. I was at California's Great America which is also owned by them (horrible park for large people) and they had some of those seats so I imagine they might have started to implement that at Knotts. I would just ask. I have a different build than you, so I don't mnow how much this will help but I really hope you can enjoy your time at the parks.

I am back from Disney and will be leaving a very detailed update of my experience as a BIG guy. Hopefully will have it all written and updated for anyone visiting in the future that is Big and Tall. debating on wether or not its best to leave it as a reply to this thread or to make a whole new thread. Thoughts?

Keep it here.

Maybe leave it here and update the title so people looking in the future will know there is a update with your experience?

I hope you had a great trip! :)

Thanks so much for reporting back! Looking forward to reading about your experience and impressions of the parks, especially how the advice and suggestions you got here translated into real DLR life. Hope you and your GF had a magical trip!

At Universal Studios Hollywood, my dh could not ride Harry Potter . he is at just under 300 and 6'1"

can anyone help with what coasters a pooh sized person can go on at Knotts Berry Farm. I have an Annual pass but have been too afraid to try i don't want to be embarrassed. I am 5'5 315

I’m Pooh sized and almost 6 feet tall. The only ride that bothered me was Winnie the Pooh. My knees were squished. Painfully. Space was tight but liveable.
Ask for the front on WTP. Lots more knee room in the front seats. I learned that years ago (about 10 ) and have always made sure to get the front seat since then.

I am a bit bigger than you and enjoy most attractions.

Space may be uncomfortable, but doable. I would suggest asking for the alternative loading there, that way you can take all of the time you need getting in and out, it helps a lot. Also, if you have difficulty, try crossing your legs at your ankles.

Splash Mountain, ask for the back.

For Guardians ask for the transfer seat, your legs/sides will thank me later and you will get a lot more air time.

For Star Tours, ask for the transfer seat and have them open the side.

Rise, have them open the side.

Soarin, ask for the end seats, they are quite a bit wider.

You likely will have a hard time with
  • Silly Symphony Swings
  • Goofy's Sky School
  • Roger Rabbits Cartoon Spin (may be doable if you don't also have knee issue like me)
  • Gadgets Go Coaster (again may be doable)

As for Knott's, if you enjoy characters, entertainment and historical things, it is worth it without ever stepping foot on a single ride. As for rides that absolutely will work (if running) for you are:
Big Foot Rapids
Knott's Berry Tales
Trains (including the kids one)
Sky Tower
Log Ride
Caurosel

May Work for you:
Ghost Rider
Sidewinder
Xcellerator
Jaguar

Hollywood Studios can be worth it if you get a deal and enjoy behind the scenes looks at movies, as the tram ride and Jurassic World will both definitely work. Likely Transformers, Minions and the Simpsons Ride will work. There are a few shows as well, those will obviously be fine too.

There will be some attractions where you will be more comfortable rising in separate rows. In some cases, like Haunted Mansion if you are both on the larger size, it may be best to sit in separate vehicles, but they will be one right behind the other and this is rare. Just use your best judgement looking at the vehicles and if unsure, ask a CM, they are generally happy to help you figure out what is best.

There are test seats at virtually all of them, most are in out of the way spots, but really no one pays attention to people using them.
