Today is Wednesday, March 1. Since last week Saturday, I had trouble swallowing water or any other liquids. My throat didn't hurt, but it felt swollen. On Monday I noticed a scratchy throat.

Yesterday morning I went to the YMCA again and I noticed I started sweating really fast which is unusuall for me, it takes at least 20 minutes to get a sweat going. It also happened Monday nite at YMCA step class, but I was still feeling fine.

Last nite my head felt hot and I couldn't sleep. I got up at midnite and took 2 tylenol and drank some ice water after I took a tablespoon of cough medicine-I'm such a wimp.

This morning my stomache is upset, my head hurts and my throat still hurts. Is this strep or just normal flu sytoms? I've been eating Tums like crazy too.

I've never had strep, and I haven't been sick in a really long, long time.

I don't know whether you have strep or not, but I do know that you can't get too old for strep. Sounds like you'd better make a trip to the doctor. If it is strep, if can turn into something worse if it's not treated. Good luck!

Okay, I read this thread title totally wrong. My eyes saw, "Am I too old to Strip". :rotfl:

I don't know if it's strep or not, but it doesn't hurt to get it checked out.

You are not too old for strep, although strep in an adult tends to make you very ill. Do you have ***** nodules in the back of your throat, if you do, you had better head to the Dr.

strep is bacteria, you are never too old. Whenever you have trouble swallowing, it's a good idea to contact or see a doctor. sorry you feel sick.

I had strep for the first time as a 40 something yo woman. Nobody else in my family had evern had it. My symptoms were different that yours, but it doesn't mean that you don't have it. The only other person to have strep in my family is my 6yo a couple weeks ago.

The last time I had it I was 32. But, I was really ill. I mean, I would not have even *thought* of going to workout!

Mine started with an uncomfortable throat and a low-grade fever in the afternoon of the first day (my temp was 99.5). The next morning, I woke up with a terribly painful throat and a fever of 102. I immediately went to the clinic and tested positive for strep. I just remember it getting bad very quickly. But, everyone is different and I don't think it would hurt to get a swab done.

That's how I read it as well. :rotfl2:

I'm really curious as to what the "filtered" word was before "nodules"...

I'd get it checked out.

I thought the same thing! I was going to say, "Go for it!" :rotfl2:

Seriously, I hope you get it checked out and start to feel better soon. :grouphug:

I'm am definately not stripping material. When I read the newspaper, I tend to read something totally different that what is written, you think that has something to do with age too?

I don't have any modules in my throat, it is just red. And for working out the last 2 days, I felt fine, except for sweating a lot faster than I normally do. And for going to public places sick-I am the first one to yell about sick people. I'm not going to my step-class tonite-or I won't be going till I feel better.

I just called the local clinic and she said to come in for a swab test for strep and if I have it they will call Walgreens for some meds-if not she said it is just a viral throat infection. She told me viral throat infections sometimes can act worse than strep.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

The last time I had strep was when I was in college. I was leaving a concert (Poison, 4th row, DH caught a drumstick!) and all of a sudden I could barely put one foot in front of another. I was overwhelmed by a tired feeling. Then my throat started to hurt, so I went to student health and was diagnosed. I felt better almost immediately after starting antibiotics.

You guys are too funny! :rotfl:

I had Strep for the first time in my 20s and the last time was when my child was born when I was 36. I WISH there was an age you can STOP having it!! ugh...

I believe it's a four letter word for what's inside a pimple or abcess, but is also part of a filtered word.

You are never too old for strep. It's a common infection. See a doctor. Oh and some people are strep carriers and will always come up +. My son is one of them. Didn't know this till he tested positive 6 times in one year! He never really did have strep. That was a lot of antibiotics.

Ooohhhh...I never would have come up with that. Thanks.

I had Strep a couple weeks ago and couldn't believe how bad I felt. I had no energy at all. A 15 minute trip to get my dd from school and I was out for the rest of the day, it was awful!!! Good luck!!

I get strep about twice a year, and I am 34. Sometimes I am very sick with it, other times just feel run down and have a very low grade fever (100 F). The only tell-tale sign for me is the sore throat. Not so bad I can't swallow, but more of a scratchy sore. I will say that many people get stomach upset with strep, so that may very well be what you have. Amoxicillin is the antibiotic of choice but it has basically stopped working for me, so I always have to do a round of Biaxin to get it totally out of my system. Definitely go to the doc and get it checked out. Hope you feel better!

You asked if you are too old....but don't say your age.

I'm in my very late 30's...I get strep from my students at least once during the school year. In the 2002-2003 school year, I had it 3 times between Oct. & May.

I don't think you're ever too old for strep.

****Edited to add: THIS IS REALLY DAISYDUCK123...I JUST REALIZED I AM SOMEHOW SIGNED ON AS MY DD.

I just spoke to my friend a few minutes ago. Guess what her 89 year old mother was diagnosed with today? Strep.

Nope, your not too old. I had strep a couple of years ago, I was about 34 & man it kicked my butt!! I was tired, I felt feverish & I felt like I couldn't function. You probably want to get it checked out. When my DS had strep, he did not have the white bumps on his throat & we didnt even realize he was really sick, when he finally got a fever that wouldn't go down we took him to the docs & it had already ran its course & was in the Scarlett Fever stage! He got a shot of Penicillan & was better in a couple of days.
