Am I the only one that does NOT like Jungle Skipper Canteen?

Just curious about what other guests experiences have been at Jungle Skipper Canteen. I keep reading great reviews about this restaurant but for some reason our experience was bad.

Have to say, I loved the theming of the restaurant and the fact that we got a reservation the same day without any problems.

Note that I am a big and adventurous eater. I don't have an issue with spices at all. My food was just not prepared well. So, I had the Whole Fried Fish. Fried fish is one of my fav. things to eat but this fish was so overly fried, dry and salty it was so hard to eat. My husband had the shumai and it was, Meh... The rice we got was extremely hard and chewy, it was just bad :( Am I missing something? Did we just went on a bad day?

I am hoping to hear about other guest experiences.

We've have decent experience there. We did however enjoy the dessert. FWIW, I had the pork and DH had the fried chicken (that was back in Dec 2016). It was okay. I'm always willing to give a place a second try and if its bad yet again, I'm out.

Thank you for posting this! You took the words out of my mouth. We are very adventurous eaters and none of us really liked our meals. I ordered 2 appetizers, the falafel and something else I don't even remember. The falafel had a weird texture and flavor. Trust me, I've been eating falafel my entire life in many different middle eastern restaurants. I know what falafel is supposed to taste like. Often we will give a Disney restaurant another chance, in case it was an off day, but our food was just meh and there are so many other choices at WDW. Definitely not going back anytime soon.

I know! it is so hard to go back when there are other choices available...

We have eaten there 4 or 5 times and the food has always been very good.
The service has always been good as well. The restaurant was known for the quirky jokes and interaction with the servers. Our last experience had none of that and it was missed.
I do think as it has gotten busier, the food quality is not as good as when it opened. Hopefully they can improve that.

I would not say we didn't like it but the server was so far in the weeds with a table of 8 next to us that I really wanted to help. Every time she came to see us that table gave her a bunch of things to do that made her unavailable. I tipped her well because she worked for it...only on someone else. We will go back.

I haven’t eaten there, and I’m hesitant to try it. Yes, the reviews sound generally good, but it’s Asian food.

Where I live, Italian and Asian make up the bulk of non-chain restaurants, and many of them are super good and authentic. So those are the two cuisine I avoid at Disney—I just don’t think they can measure up to what I can get at home.

I have eaten there several times, and the service and food were great. However I find Disney restaurants to be very inconsistent (my best and worst meal one trip were at the same restaurant, one week apart) so I don’t doubt others have had bad experiences. I have never had chewy or hard rice, or overly salty food.

I have traveled all over the world. I eat local foods when I do and will try anything.

This place is far from authentic but I can see that the fare is exotic to most Americans. I've been twice and both times the food was prepared poorly. A total of five different entre's - all of them not very good. Bland, over-cooked, Americanized so as to reduce any authenticity or flavor. The service was always good.

We have eaten there twice. We are always a large party with each of us eating different meals. I will say the first time I didn't get it either for the food. We had great service though. A lot of fun. So we went back and I ordered a different meal. Not wonderful but better. Certain choices are better than others. We do enjoy the service.

We didn’t like it either, in fact I think it was the only restaurant our whole family didn’t like their meals at. The only thing that any of liked was the falafel (which actually was very good, best falafel I’ve had). Other things we tried were a noodle salad, the pork dish, kids Mac and cheese and desserts (can’t remember which one though) we didn’t get any puns or jokes and we were seated in the main room and I really didn’t care for the theme. It’s the only place we have dined at Disney that we all left disappointed in the meal.

I really liked my meal in January. I had the lamb. The only issue I had with it was the portion size was a bit small.

I think Disney is consistent at being inconsistent. It's a shame, really, because often people try a place once and will write it off completely if it's a poor experience. Can't blame them as the prices are $$$!

We tried it for the first time a couple weeks ago and really enjoyed it. I loved the vegetable curry and DH liked the chicken. Service was spotty but when she was around, she played the role.

I'm one who thinks MK food is super lacking so maybe I was just thrilled there is a decent restaurant inside the park for us to dine at? We usually just eat at The Plaza because I don't really like any of the CS spots, either. I think I'm faster to write off places in parks like Epcot when I have so many good choices to try.

You mean like all the people from New England who think the lobster roll at Columbia Harbour House is inadequate?;)

My family is so picky I'll never get to try Skipper Canteen, so I guess OP is not alone in not liking it. :)
